You're telling me. Certain people find it hard to grasp that I can be Chinese and gay, let alone me listening [older] Korn and Marilyn Manson (I love "The Beautiful People"), or anything harder than pop-rock.

The only reason why people can tell is that accursed artsy/fashion stereotype. I can't help that I spent 17 hours a week in the art rooms, art geekdom requires that I dress as visually appealing as possible! Plus all a sizeable portion of my wardrobe is clothing from my sister's tomboy phase. I mean, come on, orange courduroy shirts! Who needs to go out to vintage shops when there's one in the other room? whee

Ooh, they had every intention of me continuing the family name. Damn rice farmers* always need to procreate! My eldest cousin in Hong Kong has ensured that there will be at least one male child in the next generation, so I'm home free. Plus if I was living in China, I wouldn't exist. I am the second child!

*The character for my last name is a picture of a rice farm. The stereotypes never end. xd

I know the feeling gonk My brother rarely went to school, and in his 4th year of highschool(yet still wouldn't have been his last), he dopped out. So now I'm expected to be the one to graduate ect. (even though there's not much money in the department I'm going to, alot of artists don't get what they deserve)

How about the general population's idiotic notion that you can't be physically affectionate with someone without being in a romantic relationship. I'm a touchy-feely person; I'm affectionate. I like giving hugs and snuggling -- I'll even kiss my friends, usually on the shoulder (I'm short, so that's usually the most accessable) -- but it's all completely platonic.

My whole ******** school decided I was gay before I'd even given it much thought. I didn't even know that's what they thought 'til years later. All I knew at the time is everyone started treating me like I had the plague...even my mom thought I was "experimenting" with my friend Cheryl. It was ******** weird.

I had something like that thrown at me this weekend, Astri. My extended family here had a little get-together this past weekend for my aunt's birthday. We were watching a movie that had an implied gay relationship in it, and immediately everyone just stared at me. She even had the audacity to slip a comment at my youngest [male] cousin to "be careful" of me.

Then again she's a Catholic tomboy spinster, and reads faintly on the gaydar.

In any case, most people would say that they'd rather have someone with whom they can share their lives. A soulmate that would satiate every desire, both physical and spiritual. A life companion that would stick with them through thick and thin until death do them part. Most would probably be extremely sincere while saying it.

But, a grand majority, it so seems, is willing to settle for a single night of passion that somehow, in someway, mimics what they hope for but feel they may never find.

That, I think, is what drives so many people to one-night stands. Why are men more amenable to this than women? Men do not grow up with the princess-fantasy. While women still hope to be swept off their feet, men tend to be discouraged that, should they find this woman, they'll be the ones who'll have to do the sweeping. Therefore, men are much more willing to abandon the hope than women (this, of course, is changing as the attitudes of women toward gender issues change) and, thus, more willing to engage in promiscuous sex.

Since straight men still require women for the equation, straight men have an obstacle in their path: women. Their promiscuity is only held back by (a) the number of women have given up the hope of seeing a knight beckon them with a glass slipper and (b) the number of women they can convince that they are, in fact, that knight holding the slipper.

Gay men have no such buffer. While there are a few gay men who have adopted the princess-fantasy, most appear to adopt the sentiments of the straight man. Fortunately, or unfortunately, for the gay man, the limited number of gay men with the princess-fantasy allow gay men to engage in as much promiscuous sex as the straight man desires, which is far less than the common straight man actually gets.

I hope this explains my position on this issue a little better. (Longest intro to a joke, EVER!)
