gonk I've never had it happen yet. But I refuse to pay most people in advance. Too many artists go MIA.

What happened?

This is the first time It's happened to me, so I suppose I'm lucky. I ordered art from a user in july of 06. Paid 25k up front for a fullbody + background image of my OC marv. It was supposed to be of him on the set of his zombie cooking show.

Thing is, she's given me an image of Marv, but not the actual image I ordered. She went hiatus due to some legal issues last year, but she never really came back to her thread. I PMed her a few months ago and she told me she was still working on my piece and that she'd refund my money for the long wait.

Instead, she sent me a trade for only 10k, which is still pending (I didn't confirm since it wasn't the full amount) and has dissappeared again. I've posted in her thread but she won't respond. Her post history shows a rather active RP life in several different forums though. I know she's been reported before, but she claimed it was a 'misunderstanding' and she still has her main account, so she wasn't banned. It's been just a few months from a year now since I ordered the piece and since she got the money up front, I think I've waited long enough D:

Yuck. Thats why I only pay up front to people I know personally beforehand. Its annoying enough when you have an open trade with 50k in limbo land for months and then get no art. I wouldn't want to actually lose the 50k instead. >_<

I had a similar "wrong picture" incident though. An artist was supposed to be doing lineart and gave me a really really sketchy picture and expected full payment then got pissy when I refused. Psh, she was lucky I finally just gave her half. As far as I'm concerned, I shouldn't pay for something I didn't order. And neither should you. If she doesn't respond to you for another long while, I'd just report her if I was you.

I mean, if its not what you requested then its like someone mailing you a coat when you ordered shoes, right?

Exactly. I've already reported her, about 2 days ago. Just waiting for a response on it now. I know what you mean about trades waiting in limbo. If the artist isn't serious about doing the art, then why waste my time and their own by taking a trade and order? IRL issues are understandable...but once 5..6 months roll around, you can't help but wonder. That gold can be spent elsewhere. I work in customer service and view my art orders very much like a form of customer service. Don't get me wrong, the artist deserves respect, but so do the customers.

I've waited a long time for art and I don't mind waiting -- when the artist stays in contact. Be it through PMs or their own shop thread doesn't matter. So long as I know they haven't forgotten me. I tend to cancel orders sooner, with artists that have dissappeared entirely. Doing that has gotten me on a few shop blacklists, but I really don't think I'm being unfair by wanting to be updated once n' a while.

I usually message artists who vanish on me and let them know my trade is going to be cancelled soon. But I'm with you on the "customer needs to be respected too" thing. Too many artists act like they have the final say on everything and you have to deal with it. It gets old quick.

I suppose there isn't much chance you will get your gold back, but I hope things work out for you. Or she at least gets banned for it mad .

Since I paid for it almost a year ago, getting the gold back doesn't really matter much to me. I don't expect to get it back (although it'd be nice) and luckily it was only 25k, when it could have been much more. But I don't want to see her questing and RPing knowing she got my gold without giving me my order. For the most part, I just want something done about it, rather than nothing at all.

How long does it usually take for scam reports to read a mod/admin?

I have no clue. I reported a PM for scamming awhile back and haven't heard anything about it but I wasn't sure they'd even tell me anything. But if it helps, that was about 2 months ago.

Geez x.x

I thought that reports, at one point in time, would show up in your outbox/sentbox. Apparently not though, or not anymore. I wish they did. Then I could at least tell if it's been looked at. bah.

Yeah, best not to dwell on it though. I can't do much about it anymore.

I just bought the hannibal box set. I'm watching Manhunter for the first time, is this based on a true story?

Thats happened to me too, but it was only small amounts, but it kinda added up to around 10k by the end after all these pixel artists just disappeared with my moneys ^^;

at least it is only fake money ^^;;;

Chaos, do you mind if i make a thread in the main area? I want to make something about advertising some artists to get them more business, and this being an art whore guild, it might be good? surprised

Yeah, I'm pretty much over it now, but if the admins ever get to the report, I'll still stand by it.

I haven't been on much, trying to buy a house but it's being much more a pain in the a** than I originally thought. x.x
