That's quite interesting. Earlier, I was toying with the links between some of the greatest wonders of the world and, in connection with a game I'm making, giving them uses (ie: Stonehence is a teleporter to another planet when certain stars align every "X" hundred years)

That sounds kind of like Diablo II. xd
I'm visiting Stonehenge in the summer! Totally excited.

Timaeus

Look at the massive Critias dialogue in there....That's what the exact things were...

Go you!

Just don't step on any of the "magical" fault lines the druids supposedly built the stone circle for XD

Ley lines - two of them cross under stonehenge. If you're there at Midsummer, try to see the sunrise or sunset. They line up with some of the most powerfully magickal stones there. Stonehenge was a great magickal calendar built by the druids to give them the power in the moon and the sun.

Isn't this thread about Atlantis?
o well must have missed something
Atlantis is real and i've seen a couple diffrent theroies on its location, and i have my own impossible theroies for where it is and what it is.
I belive its under the sea and we can't find it because the merfolk don't want us to. so end the speculation! xd

We just ended up a bit off topic talking about Stonehenge, sorry. Mind you, this is kind of an all-round magickal place topic by now, right?

Hmm, Lugh, with the theories - how about reading Seven Ancient Wonders (Matthew Reilly again mrgreen I'm rather a fan!)? It suggests that teh Great Pyraminds and the Benben stone were a way of giving power to a country or power to the world, when used in alignment with a certain sunspot that turns up everythin 2,600 years or something.

Yeah. I'm a gamer, and I have a friend who has been researching the strangest occults out there. So I like to play games that start on Earth and then, through some of the unexplained wonders and myths of the world, I can really have fun with experimentation and give reason to what has little or none.

If you know anything about me, I'm OBSESSED with Atlantis. Especially the portrayal of it in Ecco: Dolphin Defender of the Future.

Anyways, yes, I do believe that Atlantis was an ancient and highly advanced civilization roughly around at the time of Ancient Greece.

They were probably situated on a volcanic area or a HUMUNGOS JUMBO BUMBO faultline, causing the end of it.

But while they were alive, I think that they were a closed society with a highly rigid social order. (PM me if you want to here about why I think etc.) I believe that their island area was quite infertile and unsuitable for growing crops, leading them to, like the Japanese, harvest from the oceans around.

I think that the ruins are somewhere.

There is a specie of eel that migrate. They go in a curved path, to a volcanic shelfline that has NOTHING on it, no prey, nutrition, shelter, NO NOTHING. And they stop there for a while. Meanwhile, there's a current that leads directly to their destination, in a STRAIGHT line. It's faster and easier there. Why do they take a pitstop at a random shelf that has NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING on it?

I believe that perhaps once upon an era, there WAS something there, like a city....

Because scariest of all, these eels evolved into their separate specie about the time of the Ancient Greeks. And possibly Atlantis. Houstan, I think we found something.......

i beleave that Atlantis was real, as do I many other things. my reason is that noone has proven that it has not existed. scientists claim it is just a myth but they have not searched for it themselves, are they affraid it will be found? I know there are many people that claim they have found it in one place or another and I can tell you i do agree with some and dont with others. i have not yet read the story that Plato has written about Atlantis and i hope to soon, only then can i myself speculate as to where i think it is. I do wish to know where it is but i am a fanatic of the Trojan War and i am spending my time searching for the places of Troy, Ithica and other Greek and Roman citys. now im getting off the point, sorry but yes i do beleave Atlantis exists and i beleave we will find it but when i have no idea.

I'm going to state what I do know about Atlantis. Despite being called Atlantis there is absolutely nothing to suggest it is in the Atlantic, in fact people seem to favour that it was near modern day Greece and thus possibly in the Mediterranean Sea. The people on it were supposedly of a high intelligence and riches but they became too cocky and either forsakened the gods or thought themselves too good to need them anymore. Poesidon was greatly angered by this and sank the island, which means it was probably wasn't sunk in the greak flood because in Greek mythology Zeus caused the great flood in an act of revenge against King Lycaon who tried to disprove his immortality by serving Zeus his own son's flesh. (Interestingly enough and completely off-track Lycaon was supposedly a son of Priam king of Troy, so the fall of Troy must've come before Lycaon incurred Zeus' wrath unless we are to suppose Lycaon survived the flood etc).
Plato was the first to ever mention Atlantis (427–c. 347 BC), however it is supposed that Atlantis sunk 9,000 years before that in a natural disaster after a failed invasion of Athens. Indeed back in that time roughly around 1600 BC there was a volcanic eruption in Thera, which occurred before the fall of Troy. There are theories that this event inspired Plato to talk of Atlantis.
As there are no other historical sources apart from Plato mentioning Atlantis I am slightly sceptic, however, there were numerous earthquakes and natural disasters no doubt that could've led to the disappearance of a small island not to mention lands merging and names rechanging. It is entirely possible Atlantis is still with us today under another guise, its history lost and long forgotten but its more probable to me that if it did exist it is most certainly underwater. As for super beings, I would said they were your average humans perhaps blessed with the intelligence the Athenians or Egyptians seemed to have. However, if it is done there I doubt it will be found since the oceans are vast and there is much unknown down there.

That kinda backs up my belief that Atlantis is in South America. If you think about it, oricalcum is a ntural metal in the mountains there, scrientists and archealogists have found ruins there that resemble what Plato mentions, including the canal system. And the mountains and volcanoes in South America, thanks to the Ring of Fire, could easily 'sink' Atlantis with a earthquake since it was on the coast, and liquifaction does have interesting effects on structures. And why would Plato be the only one to document this? O.o? Keep on readin~

The Americas won't even be concieved until Columbus discovers that the Earth is ROUND about 3 thousand years later. I'm betting that the Greeks never mentioned it because they never knew about it. What I'm also thinking what happened is that the natives of 'Atlantis' were trying to discover more peoples via sea for trade and ran into a Greek ship that Plato just so happened to be on. And~ the natives took Plato and crew to Atlantis.

And why people would think Atlantis is near Greece? If you're on a ship and can't tell your speed because your tools are too primative, if you get a good gust of wind to blow you off course, you could easily go further than you wanted... and in the wrong direction at that. And if you've ever been on a ship with a duty or a goal, you learn to pass time rather quickly.

And THAT is what I think. But of course... XD I'm Lugh.

Tempest says:

I think that Atlantis was one of those "moving islands," like the island where the guy that gave the north wind to odysseus, and it crashed into something and sunk.

But of course my opinion doesn't matter much.
