donnythephoenix Septomor Tell me, when the sun explodes finally, then will there be global warming, or cooling, or nothing? (I know what your going to chose) There will be nothing, which is totally irrelevant. We are not going to ruin this planet because in several billion years it will be engulfed as the sun expands. We are going to attempt to preserve it so that we can enjoy it. You aren't going to live for several billion years, or were you under the impression that humans are immortal? *checks post* Where did I say humans would live forever?

ha I knew it, the sun has a chance of growing into a supernove, and no matter how small the chances, its still possible, yet it wouldn't be a black hole xp

Septomor ha I knew it, the sun has a chance of growing into a supernove, and no matter how small the chances, its still possible, yet it wouldn't be a black hole xp I was using the balck hole hypothetically. And the chance that the sun would turn into a supernova, in several billion years, is so slim that it is irrelevant. The sun is too small. Supernovas only appear at the destruction of short lived megastars.

(I know what your going to chose) We would probably all be dead, and even if we don't, it may cause the way of lives to change. Maybe when the sun explodes, the earth would erm, break dwon or something because nobody could survive without the light. i.e. - food from plants which need light.

How long do you think Venus would stay warm if the sun disapeared? (yes, I know that the sun won't do that.) I'm curious about how long its atmosphere could retain heat, seeing as it functions as a giant greenhouse (without the plants, and life, and everything.) Also, could thermophile bacteria survive on Venus? This is just random curiostiy, sorry for ging so off topic, I know basically nothing about this.

Thats an interesting question. As we all know, the atmosphere on Venus is so dense that it would crush and large inhabitant. There was an idea to dumn algae there that would eat at the atmosphere and make it palatable to humans. If they would be able to survive on Venus maybe bacteria would too. As to retaining heat, I have no idea.

I've got one We could use a giant satilite dish to block the suns rays but it should also be transparent, therefor parts of the rays would still go through

Or put some of our ice caps there to prevent coastal flooding if temperatures here increase? I'm no scientist, so I don't know if this is even hypothetically possible. Probably not.

Okay, I'm not exactly one who pays perfect attention in science class but I think I can contribute. It is a natural process for the eath to change it's temperature (the Ice Age for example: It was tropical then icy then slowly returned to a "normal" temperature.) but pollution is just speeding the process up. I think one thing most people don't realize is when you have an appliance that is plugged in and off it's still releasing gases harmful to the environment. You need to unplug appliances when you are done with them. I think computers and televisions might be a little hard to unplug and plug every time you want to use them. But small things are the biggest threat; hairdryers, toasters, cellphone chargers, cd players, etc. And cars are actually the biggest threat...all the exhaust that comes out... sad

Well naturally they'd be able to survive in the Clouds - see, they aren't so hot and there are endless amounts of wierd chemicals and light to supply them ^_^ But... they wouldn't live long on The Surface sweatdrop donnythephoenix As to retaining heat, I have no idea. We can calculate that. I mean, there is a cold side to Venus, isn't there? If there is one, then obviously the Heat goes away in a shorter time period than the Venusian Day. If we find the extra hot bit across the Boundry between Sunlit Atmosphere and Dark Atmosphere, and divide it by the speed of the Planet's Rotation, we get how long it takes for all that Heat to be radiated away again.

Ok, right now it's REALLY acting up. A few days ago it was FREEZING cold in Florida! Not to mention that I was running a mile and a half in the cold with a skort. u_u
And today, it's snowing in Indiana.
Now it's getting REALLY humid and hot. DDD:

Yeah! COmpost!!!
Compost is so awesome. Well, actually, it stinks, but it is really cool. You can throw almost everything in there!!! And it then gets all squishy!! And looks like a big pile of moss. And then your roses eat it all up. SO AWESOME!!!
