Well in China they say Li Ra-ke and they put the family name first their as in Japan so that should be considered

PatrioticPikachu Ok, We all should know that in the Japanese Culture, the say their family names first.
Example, Uzumaki Naruto, Haruno Sakura, Uchiha Sasuke, etc.
Now we have the case of Lee. In the english version, they switch it for Americans since we say our family names last.
Example part two: Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno, Sasuke Uchiha, etc.
And Lee... In the Japanese version... he says his name is Rock Lee (Or Roku Lii... I think) So shouldn't his name be Lee Rock here in America? xD

=D Probably not, because Rock Lee is supposed to be a knock-off of "Rocky" and "Lee Rock" would just ruin everything. xD And it sounds dumb. P:

Rock Lee Drunken Master It's because Lee has a foreign name translated into Japanese. I don't really know how to explain it right, but it's like.. A good example is (OMG) Chuck Noris. Translate Chuck Noris's name into Japanese and you get (OMG) Chyaku Norisu. (see how it even sounds like Chuck Noris?) He has a non-japanese name, so it's writen in katakana, his name is writen how it sounds. So his name is origonally Rock Lee, first then last, so its translated into Japanese as first then last as Roku Li. I hope that clears it up (so america DIDN'T mess it up) READ, yes?

ShadowXSnake they did the same with Maito Gai, it was intentional. their names were meant to be a lil different than every one else's, you know in the japanese version everyone calls Lee- SAN, while everyone else is first name + - kunnaruto-kun, sasuke-kun, etc. they made him different cuz he's awesome like that. mrgreen I thought it was only Sakura who called him Lee-san. Naruto calls him Fuzzy-brows, and everyone else... It's been so long since we've seen him in the manga that I don't even remember sweatdrop Anyway, I always figured Sakura used "-san" because he's older and she respects him and he uses "-san" for her

Kishimoto says Rock Lee is based on Bruce Lee. Now Bruce is the first name and Lee is the last name in this case. He could have called him Rock Lee and said that Rock was the first name, but that would be confusing to his readers. The solution? Call him Rock Lee in the traditional Japanese last name first name format, so long as it SOUNDS like Bruce Lee.
Lee is his first name. Everyone calls him Lee, and they call everyone else by their first names. The same thing goes for Guy. Nobody calls them Might or Rock.
Also, Lee and Guy are supposed to be Chinese in origin. Besides the fact that their names are supposed to sound like the people they're based on (Bruce Lee and Maitogainar-something-or-other…), the dubbers may have decided to leave their names the way they were to emphasize their foreignness --along with their appearance, and Lee's strange way of speaking. wink

LaughingGal13 America should have just left the names the way they were originally scream cant argue with that logic actually they american version pisses me off the voices are so annoying (especially naruto i mean isnt he annoying enough already) i watch it with subtitles, it's less, eratating.
