Covet smiled as she watched Meli walk down the street. They had agreed that Martiya could stand to be closed for a few days and Meli had said she would put up a notice for her. Turning to look at the ruined door, Covet sighed and returned to the drawing room to kneel on the floor beside Mecca.
"How are you feeling?" she asked, slipping her hands over his.

Mecca opened his eyes, they were still sore and a little blurry but he could see her now. "Thank you." he said with a weak smile, wincing as he tried to sit up. "I don't know what would have happened if you did not come."
Blinking again he gave a short whistle for Scim who came padding to the chaise and started to lick his dangling fingers.

Covet shook her head as she watched him with concern. "Don't thank me Mecca," she said softly folding her arms on his lap and laying her chin on them.
"I just... can't believe that he did this," she said as she searched his face. The b*****d had really done a number on him, and Scim as well. When the image of how he had been when she had found him flitted through her mind, she clutched the fabric of his pants in her hands. Looking away, tears started to roll down her cheeks.
"I'm so sorry Mecca," she said softly. "I didn't... I didn't know this would get so bad... that he would be so cruel. I'm just... I'm just so sorry," she cried as she realized how close she had come to losing him.

"Don't cry Covet." He pleaded stroking his hand over her hair and opening his arms to her. "It's over for now." He sighed. He was severely wishing that they had never gone to that damned cathedral.

Covet took a deep breath and wiped her tears away as she rose to sit beside him. Slipping her arms carefully around him, she rested her head on his shoulder. She held him for a few moments as she made herself get under control again. Crying wouldn't solve anything and would only end up upsetting him. Sitting up, she wiped her eyes again as she looked at him closely. Running a gentle hand through his singed hair, she had never felt a stronger urge to leave him. It was because of her that this had happened. She was certain that Yaku had done this without much provocation and her home had nearly been destroyed and both Mecca and Scim had almost been killed.
"Would you like to go up to bed Mecca? You should sleep. Meli said you would need to get some proper rest," she said, looking down at Scim as he placed his paws on her knees. Smiling just a little she reached out and stroked the soft fur on his head.

Mecca held her and stroked her hair gently. At least it had been him hurt and not her. At her question he nodded and smiled standing slowly and reaching out for her hand so that she could help him manage the stairs.
He reached down to scratch scim's head as he bounced up at his knees and started to move towards the door.

Covet mildly chastised Scim for jumping and led the way towards the stairs. Looking around at the large mess in the foyer, she sighed and ran a hand through her hair as she helped Mecca up the stairs. She was going to have a grand time putting the house back in order, but, she realized, at least she had a house to put back in order. Leading him to the bed, she pulled the covers down, then eased him down so she could pull his boots off for him.

Scim bounded up the stairs and jumped straight up on the bed. Spinning round in a circle and flopping on the covers as he watched Covet deal with his master.
Mecca watched her with a smile as she helped him get ready and eased himself between the covers. "Will you come back." He asked, he had noticed her glance at the mess in the hall and knew what she had her mind on.

Covet was pulling the covers up around him when he asked his question. Blinking, she straightened and watched him for a moment. Why would he ask such a thing? There was no way he could have known what had gone through her head just now in the drawing room.
She glanced to the door and then realized what he meant. Smiling a little, she looked back down at him and leaned down to place a soft kiss on his forehead. "Of course I will come back Mecca. I'm just going to figure out what to do about the door and straighten up a little. I shouldn't be too long," she replied as she smoothed his hair back.

"O.k." He said softly, lying back and smirking as scim instantly shot to curl up at his side. He had a feeling he would sleep much better with her by his side.
Sighing he closed his eyes and hoped that he would drift off. The sooner he could sleep, th sooner he could recover.

Covet didn't do exactly what she said she would right away. Going down into his shop, she had closed the door and curled up in his chair. It was there that she finally allowed herself to cry fully. She had not realized how deeply she had cared for him until this day. She had truly almost lost him and the thought terrified her. And poor Scim. An innocent creature had been forced to suffer as well. After a while, she finally ran out of tears and dried her cheeks. Taking a deep breath, she ran her hands through her hair and went to investigate the full extent of the damage in the hallway.
After a few hours, Covet dragged herself back up the stairs and got herself ready for bed. Shooing Scim down to the foot, she crawled in under the covers and curled up against Mecca's warm body.

Mecca Had only been half asleep when Covet joined him. Sleepily he wrapped his arms around her and rested his head against her shoulder. "Are you all right?" He murmered. He could sense a sadness about her, rather understandable as he could imagine neither he or Scim were in a very pretty state.

Slipping her arm around him, she rested her head against his, chewing lightly on the inside of her lip as she toyed with his hair. "Yeah. I'm alright," she said, nuzzling him softly. "I found someone that will fix our door for us. It's all pretty well cleaned up too," she said softly, closing her eyes as exhaustion from the days' efforts finally started to settle within her. "You should be asleep," she murmured.

"Mmm I know." He said breathing her in and allowing his eyes to droop closed once more. "You're going to laugh at me." He admitted smirking against her skin. "I was waiting for you, I couldn't get to sleep alone." He laughed a little, wincing as the motion agrivated his burns. "Now I can sleep properly though."

Covet merely smiled and carefully hugged him a little tighter against her, again realizing how close she had come to losing him. "Good night Mecca," she said softly, continuing to play with his hair. Though her body ached for sleep she couldn't just yet. She was taking too much comfort from feeling his arms around her, his body against her, and his breath gently caressing her skin. She prayed with everything in her that Yaku never crossed either of their paths again.
