Cherry Milkshake Thank you Mustang Dragon and poor horses these days and who knows whick tendon was cut abd thatas a long true story that I read and thanks for letting all of us know about your long message and I agree with you 100% on the horses and I still wished putting a fractured racehorse down along with horses would stop from now on cuz miracles can happen o their life like Barbaro for instance and ok I'm done for the night Goodnight everyone sweet dreams and thank you for coming here Mustang, sorry that I didn't accept your invite before, I had to settle a few things with the current owner before me and I'm new to this Guild stuff but I get it now goodnight everyone, hope to login tomorrow.^^ Hey Cherry. smile Well, the fractured legs thing is complicated by two things -- 1) if the horse can stand the anesthetic... Ruffian died because she overreacted to the anesthetic, and though her leg seemed to be fixed, she broke the OTHER one in her struggles coming out of the anesthetic. Then it was hopeless, and they had to put her down. So, either something can go wrong in surgery, or with the anesthetic, or the leg can be so smashed that it simply cannot be fixed enough even for the horse to stand again. Damn shame. 2) the other thing is the owner might not have the money for the expensive surgery. No choice then, the horse has to be put down to end the suffering if it needs surgery and cannot get it. Sorry, I am of two minds on racing... I ADORE TB raciang, I just wish the trainers KNEW WHAT THE HELL they were doing, and the owners cared about their horses. The truth is, it costs a lot to keep a well bred TB in pasture till it's three or four, since it must be in super safe (expensive) fencing with room to run on land that won't trip it up (no rocks, no hills, no trees that aren't safely fenced around... etc.), fed properly and so forth... owners will not wait nor pay those expenses with no return. They want the horses running at age two so they start getting money back, plus if they are to try for the big three (Triple Crown), the horses need some experience under their belt... very few (two I think) have won the Kentucky Derby without racing as a two year old. Besides, slot machines at the race tracks are now making for larger purses, so those tracks where slot machines are not allowed are paying out less, and that means the less talented and more battered horses run there... and there's less money to keep the running surface in top shape and safe... and it goes on. I love cross country. Its just as dangerous as any other equestiran sport. Even though I did have my worst fall the last time I jumped cross country. But even then, I was the one that got injured, not the horse....

Yeah and what about it? "X-country" is a short term for cross country. X is cross. She's saying there's nothing wrong with cross country and that freak accidents are rare.

erin_oh! I love cross country. Its just as dangerous as any other equestiran sport. Even though I did have my worst fall the last time I jumped cross country. But even then, I was the one that got injured, not the horse.... Cool I always wanted to try Xc and it's the most dangerous horse sport ever? I never knew that and ouch! but still I hope you're allright! sad
