don't begin about riverside..
its my second favorite band. i missed them with 2 days at PP. and then they had a gig with vanden plas and some other great band (forgot who it was) around my town. on bike distance. but i found out 1 day to late! gonk

i like europe too. and i like little names more fun most of the times.
names as mechaincal poet of dreamscape, riverside, circus maximus etc. say me much more then dream theater or devin townsent or rush.

Hehe, that's bad luck! You need to keep your eyes open. wink
Stream of Passion will play in Finland in some time, but I doubt I'll go see even if Arjen's playing.. I generally didn't like Stream of Passion that much. Maybe their second album will convince me.

I prefer less known bands as well. I think they have a little bit more to offer a lot of time. They give fresh approaches to things and even if they take some of their sound from their idols, I don't really care. I think it's just a good thing that someone refines some old dusty ideas a little.

maybe i get to see stream of passion in the netherlands. but i can't buy their tickets anywhere! and they will play in less then a month confused

second album? they are not making an other album mate wink they are just touring 1 last time (with some guests for the ayreon and star one songs) and then its over with the story, at least for the next 2 years. same as with star one.

i bought live in the real world from stream of passion a couple of days ago, and i need to day that i like it. much better then the studio album.

and in finland they had better bands with them, i heared lullacry?

They won't make a second album?... I kindda had the picture in my head that that band would go on for a bit further. Well, isn't the first time I'm wrong and I've been away for so long and haven't been really following the scene lately. Nothing surprises me anymore! biggrin

Well, a shame anyway. I felt that the band had a lot of potential and if given more time and a second try, they could make it a lot better. The first album has a few good songs but for majority it's quite boring and basically quite uninteresting.

studiowork is quite boring yes. but live they play songs a bit differnt or make it longer etc. + they play some nice songs from other bands in their own way.
like "the charm of the seer", "caste halls" some star one stuff and "when the leevee breaks".

and maybe the band will go on, i don't know for sure, but as a members of the arjen lucassen forums i doubt it. or maybe without arjen.

Yeah! Who knows what will happen. wink

Now I gotta be off to get something to eat and fire up a few firecrackers in celebration of the new year.

Happy New Year! smile

The year has started happy, thanks. biggrin

And it's my pleasure to be a part of this guild. About time there's a place to discuss music "intellectually". xd

Granted, yeah.. I think it's kindda impossible to gather a 'big' active community of progressive metal fans in a place like Gaia. Besides Dream Theater, general metal population don't really know many progressive metal bands.

However, I wish you luck in your effort. It'd be nice to have more of this discussion around here. wink

not only me. but there are some people helping with using the signature or just a link to the guild, wich might help smile

but i think it is possible, most prog fans don't get out of the chatterbox and are hard to find.

i'm already willing to pay good gold for helpers, but it seems useless.

I can put the banner on, too, but I think I won't be much use here. I don't really post that actively in general outside a few selected guilds that I'm in.

I generally don't understand why people stick to main forums, like the chatterbox.. the level on conversation is quite low and sometimes a bit too fast paced to keep up a proper conversation - not to forget the ever-on-going arguments over trivial issues. I prefer guilds where people usually have some self-dignity. rolleyes

Getting a little off-topic here, by the way. sweatdrop

No problem. wink

Just remembered that the first (well known) band I saw live was a Finnish group called Sentenced. My band started out playing some of their songs and they used to kick arse back then. Simple enough songs for beginning bands but still heavy and great to listen! domokun

They turned a bit too straightforward on their latter albums though and I haven't been listening to them in years.. sweatdrop

EDIT: Here's the first song my band ever played together. It's a song from Senteced called "Noose". Here's a youtube link.

Yeah, they're rather nice band. Quite straightforward metal but with their own touch. I don't really care for their later material but the early work is nice. smile

And yeah, we played that live many times in our earlier "career". whee
