When I first started writing fan fiction back when I was a kid, those were not MarySue's in so much that they were perfect. They were MarySue's in the fact that I made up female characters that weren't originally in the anime or cartoon I was writing about.
I was basically told, any made up female character or male character, that was not in the anime, movie or cartoon originally was a MarySue, even if they were creative, faulted, innovative characters.
*shrug* Oh well.
