My mom watched Spirited Away well the ending cause she was waiting for me to finish so she can watch something. She started crying (She's a very emotional person), the next day however she stole my movie and watched he whole thing despite the "I don't like cartoons" the previous day when I asked if she wanted to watch it.

lol, that's amazing. I wish my mom would watch anime. She can't sit through any movie whatsoever unless she is not at home. She always cleans or something. It's so annoying. xD

Haha, me too, in that order. Kiki's was on Disney Chanel too. Then Princess Mononke with my friends. Spirited Away was lent to me, and then I watched Howl's with my friend, her siblings, and my boy on St. Patrick's Day. mrgreen

I think that I saw Kiki when I was rather young, because when I saw it a few years ago, I recognized a lot of it, but couldn't really remember it... however, when I did see it, I obviously didn't pay it much mind (since I didn't remember it even lol) and also didn't know it was Miyazaki, of course.

My first movie by Miyazaki, therefore, is Princess Mononoke. I was in 6th grade and saw it with a friend when it came out: in a movie theatre! It was the single most amazing thing I had ever seen in my life, and I was entranced by it. I had never even seen an anime before then (Pokemon excluded, since its American anime at this point), and I was so moved by the way that it showed such serious scenes, but realistically, despite that it was a cartoon.

Basically, I went about two years without seeing any other Miyazaki (and at the time still didn't know his name). Then, in 8th grade sometime, I was at a friend's house and caught the ending on TV with him. It brought back memories, and I was like "wow, that was such a good movie!" Then one late evening, I was flicking through the tv channels and caught a glimpse of the show Cowboy Bebop. Basically, I would've kept turning, except I saw it and went "Oh! It's the same style as that movie I like!"

Lo and behold, my entire anime fandom is based on the coincidence of having seen that movie on my friend's tv. Ever since, I've been trying (and failing) to collect all of the DVDs of his stuff. I think that this point that I've seen most of the movies out in America, but I still have yet to buy them.... anyways, basically, Miyazaki is the best, and he's why I started drawing anime, and also why I started to watch and admire it... good stuff :3

A few years back, in about grade 8 or 9, I saw the commercials for Spirited Away and it mentioned "Acclaimed filmmaker Hiyao Miyazaki" and I figured, he must be good, so I rented it loved it and spent a month and a half tracking down as much Miyazaki as I could get my hands on, including Princess Mononoke, my favourite movie ever. I need to get myself a copy of it crying
