I love X-Japan. Great guitars, hearfelt lyrics, and one bad-a** drummer. To me, they were genius, and it's sad that there's no more music by them with them all together. I love hide's solo work, too. I think it was unique and ahead of its time. Actually, all of X-Japan was ahead of its time. I didn't care for the vocals for X-Japan. I thought hide was a much better vocalist. All of Yoshiki's solo work I don't care for, though I do enjoy Globe from time to time. I think he's still doing well with his career, especially with his production work.

They were behind eventually even in Japan.

Hair metal died....but they kept at it.

Meh, I shall explain.

X-Japan composed orchestra-worthy Metal symphonies played with upmost passion and care for their work. They loved Metal, and their fans loved them. You could feel the emotions in the music, and even though it seems cheesy, it meant a lot to them and to their fans. They were displaying characteristics of progressive, symphonic metal similar of Power Metal bands today. Listen to Sonata Arctica for a few minutes, eh?

I didn't see them as "Hair Metal" at all. They were Symphonic, Progressive Metal and a real contributer to the Metal world today.

Anyway, they mean a lot of mean. Their music was important to me as a kid and still is today. I grew up on that stuff. If it wasn't for that band, I wouldn't have been exposed to thousands of other bands in both Jrock and Metal. I think they play a similar role in other people's lives, as well.
