it would help if could actually get rechargable batteries..... But yeah that involves a trip way the hell off campus.
and why would you sell your fx53 just to replace it with a 939 varient?
Well, several reasons:
1) The 939 doesn't require buffered RAM, and thusly, there is less latency.
2) The FX55 is going to be a 939. Maybe I should wait for it?
3) Current 940 mobos for the FX series don't support Hyper Transport above 1GHz, while AMD plans to expand this to 1.6GHz.
4) Dynamic OC utilities are limiting in the sense that when dynamically OCing RAM and the Processor, it ******** with the internal Memory Interface Unit on the processor, and causes BSOD type errors.
5) The 939 version sports unlocked multipliers.
twisted 6) All current 940 Mobos in development are meant to service Opterons (no new 940 boards are being made to benefit the FX series).
7) The upcomming dual core processors are going to be 939.
I think that covers all the big points. The only thing is though, I need to find someone willing to spend that much on my current equipment... Even if I didn't turn a profit (because... Well... Buffered/ECC RAM... Especially the HiPerf stuff I have is EXPENSIVE, not too mention the launch prices for the board and processor) I would rest soundly knowing I had some level of scalability.
Actually, after I get my HDD and a video card, I may be inclined to make a deal with someone for a mobo, RAM, a HDD, a heatsink/fan, and a video card... But it's all just speculation at this point.
EDIT: After doing some calculating, my asking price would only put me under > (I hope that's a less than sign) 150USD, so it may not be a bad trade off. Hmmm...
