Ooo, so much from both sides!

In the PCG, most of us are thinking that this is against girls sometimes... In some cases, you know. I'm perfectly aware all the details of the dangers, strangers, nah-dee-nah-dee-dah.

As for me, I dun understand how this is a "Victory for girls everywhere." What if Missy got pregnant by her boyfriend Mister and didn't want her parents to know? Mister can drive her to... OH CANANDA!

The reason of the bill is SO the parents knwo about missy and mister. Because Missy is a minor and her parents have a , you know, RIGHT TO KNWO WHAT THEIR CHILD IS DOING!

If the girl is underage why is she having sex? She's underage! She's a minor, she should NOT be having sex in the first place.

Hey! Look! We agree on something! 3nodding

Cookies for all!!! blaugh

Actually, that sounds pretty gosh darn good...now I want cookies...

Finally, a step in the right direction. Let's hope they finish the path and have every state need parental notification and consent.

What would baning minors from going from state to state have to do with sex or getting pregnant?
PostPosted: Wed Aug 16, 2006 4:54 pm

Not to burst any bubbles or anything....but um, isn't this law only going to do any good if someone gets caught transporting a minor without parental consent across state lines? I mean seriously, if no one knows what good does the law do? Obviously the child isn't going to just going to walk up to the nearest cop and say "Oh guess what, so-n-so is driving me across state lines without parental permission."

States that had parental consent/notification laws. If a child wanted an abortion with out having their parents know, they could simply go out of state (if that state didn't have any) and get an abortion there. Aside fomr the fact that its illigle to transport a minor over state lines wiht out parental consent, this law now makes it to where if the child is out of state, parents are notified, and the transporter can spend up to a year in jail.

they should make an additional clause to the bill saying that if a child does cross state lines to avoid parental notification and recieves the (dis) service from an abortion clinic, the clinic is also responsible for not properly checking background information.

Ok, *looks at map* So which laws, were I a minor, would I follow shoul my parents be citizens of seperate states with differing laws? Would I get the honor of choosing the easier of the two? or would I have to follow the state I reside in more often? or the state of the "Guardian"? If so, how would one be able to contact the other parent in the differing state about such a situation in enough time? How would the state laws overlap in such a situation, having both parents in seperate states?

For those states that require both parents to comply, what about an unoffical step parent? (Married to one parent but did not adopt the child) don't they too deserve the right to have a say? Esspecially ones that have been there almost the childs entire life...

While a decent start you must realize that specifications, loop holes, and the all controling federalist seperate policies flaw each other. Even the strongest of laws weaken due to this.

Kudos, but keep at it. My Senator (the evil jerk he is *waves fist in rage*) believes in federalism, and the congress, while he specifically wishes to decrese the power of the courts.

In such an interest, a protection policy for citizens, the courts might be a good place to get a sweeping rulling on any such action.

There, I gave you an enemy strategy wink *Is joking*

Oh and consider, what if the child brings themselves out of state to avoid the parental consent clauses? Would the child be punished? (not considering the clinic here w/nods to those who have considered the clinic but not the child) Parents can be tre cruel to children who have acted out of what they consider good morals. Trust me I have a friend whose parents would, quite litterally, Disown her should she have a child before she has been married. Something else to consider.

you make some excellent points. The most logical conclusion being that we should just outlaw abortion.

and i would literally disown my child if she had an abortion. if i had a daughter.

if she would disregard my rules, my morals and her own ( as well as everyone's) means of life ( we were all fetuses at one point), then i have no daughter.

if i have a son who gets a girl pregnant, he'd better pray she keeps it. i will be supportive if she does so, i will help raise the child. but if she aborts, there would be serious changes.

If oyu commit a criem in another state, you are punished by the laws of the state you reside in, the state oyu hold recendency in. If the girl moves her self, she will be detained and either escorted back to her home state or her parents may come and get her. Social services would most definetly get involved.

There are really hardly any loop holes. Your step parent/guardian has as much legal power over you as your actuale mother and father because they, by law, are you official representatives.

The only loope hole I potentialy see is if the abotion providers ask to see identafacation. If not she can simply claim to be a resident of the state and give a fake adress.

That's not very fair to the child though is it?? I mean one of the big reasons of being against abortion is that the child is able to grow and live a (hopefully) fruitful life and make their own decisions, even if they differ from the individual who raises them.

I would hope my children are indeed pro-life, but if they aren't they are still my children and I love them. Everybody makes good and bad decisions in life, decisions that parental individuals don't always agree with but that doesn't mean a child should be shunned simply because of their life choices. Murderers are still somebody's child, I can't imagine their parents hating or disowning them simply because they made a bad choice. They may not support the choice, or want to have anything to do with the choice that child made.

Not necessarily true unless the proper steps are taken. My stepfather had absolutely no legal power over me expect for the little bit my mohter gave him. He never adopted me as his child, so my biological father had all legal rights over me that my mother did and he lived on the other side of the country.

He never adopted you. Meaning he was neathier your father nore you're guardian, mearly the male parental figure. When guardian ship is granted by the country, usially all parental authority is given.

Your comment earlier gives the impression that simply because the step-parent is married to the legal/biological parent that that gives them as much legal power as the legal/biological parent, which obviously isn't the case. I was merely pointing that out.
