I would love to get a tat of sorts and in my profession, if it's cover up-able, you're golden. But I'm afraid of the pain sweatdrop As far as my parents and peers go, they don't care, both of my parents have six tattoos between them and most of my friends either have or planning to get one (or more). I think I'll stick to piercings, I have five (two in each ear and belly button).

Our generation is the most tattooed and pierced of any before us and employers get that. They may get uppity about a gauged out septum but 3 holes in your ears and a tattoo on your ankle aren't enough to get you turned away any more. Especially if it is something that can be covered. Like your tattoo could be covered by long sleeves or a watch.

Although it really depends on where you get them.

Personally, I have no problem with them, but I don't think I'd get one myself.

The whole permanency thing of tattoos is what prevents me from getting one...The 'tatted up old person' image is not a pleasing one for me.
I think someone should figure out how to create an ink that could be metabolized by the body after a year or something...

zisis Lately i've been considering a tattoo.. (A simple one around the wrist. Nothing like a skull with flames or anything) And then considering my profession and anything after that.. Would it significantly affect my job hunting abilities? Or would it just hinder it? And then I had the thought.. What about everyone else? Any of you have any? I know alot of girls get the lower back ones, and sometimes ankles. But you never know. (( A friend of mine wants to get one like bassically in her cleavage. and i'm thinking... gonk oww....)) So what's your take on them? general rule for tats are if they can be covered up by a long sleeve it works in the professional world. However, if you don't have long enough sleeves then you probably won't get hired. Plus you might hate the tat 3 years from now, 5 years, 10 years or 30...

It might hinder your job hunting, but that just depends on what type of jobs you're hunting for :3
You can always cover it up, too. Stage make up = God.
How long have you been thinking about getting it? I never get tattoos if I'm having second thoughts. All the ones I have now and am planning to get in the near future have been on my list of things to do since I was about 14 years old.

It really depends on the employer's policee and if the tattoo would be visible.

I've wanted a tattoo for quite a while, and I've had the same one in mind for a few years, so I might actually go ahead and get it done. Kind of like a graduation present to myself.
I want the letter K (my first and last name start with K) in cursive written on my hip/pelvis. It would be small and black and in a place where no one (unless I let them) could see it.
I think some tattoos are really cool, some really stupid. I think it's up to an individual to decide what they want to put on their bodies. I've had my tongue, nose and belly button pierced. I don't wear the tongue one anymore and rarely the nose ring, but I don't regret them. Oh and I really don't see why an employer would ask if you had any tattoos or piercings. If they're not visible, I don't see how it would be any of their business to ask.
The office where I worked was extremely conservative about dress code. One day I forgot to take out my nose ring before I came, and I got told to take it out...pretty embarassing. On a side note, they also wouldn't let women wear open-toed shoes and we always had to be wearing panty-hose. No capri pants either. There was no safety reason behind the policy, it was because they were run by a religious order. I'd have hated to have had a tattoo and had them see it! I'm not going to miss that!

I have my tattoo on my back, so no one ever sees it. The other day I was at my practicum though, and reached up to put something on a shelf, my shirt came up, kids saw it, supervisor saw it, and s**t hit the fan. I mean, it's not like it was exposed all day or anything, just for two seconds, but it caused major problems. Luckily, I got pulled out of that practicum, for other reasons, and now I'm working with teenagers and it's so much more acceptable.

As long as the tattoo is not visible then I do not see how it would be a problem with an employer. I have never considered getting a tattoo myself...now piercings are a different story.

I think it depends on where you get the tattoo. like if its not really visible, like on your back or chest it should even be noticed.

For my 1st tattoo, I've been thinking about getting this design done. I'm thinking about just having the eye-ring thingy around my bicep in b&w. What'cha think?
