Was Cell really that bad? It's the only book that I don't have by King. I've liked all of the books that I've read, which isn't very many like maybe 20ish. Yeah I thought the Dark Tower was the end too, it would have been a good end, I loved those books. Sigh...

He's probably still under contract... either that or he's doing it for the money, which I'd hope he isn't because at this time he should be so ******** filthy rich... *sigh*

I thought Cell was an excellent book. You probably just don't like it because your in love with cell phones and all the other stupid cheap technological s**t they foist on us.

Frankly I think it was one of his best books written in the last ten years. I haven't seen anyone else really cover the subject. Its far more original than what most authors write, and less derivitive(sp?) than most of his works.

Though even when the idea is unoriginal he does shed it in a better light than most people write it.

And I own every Stephen King book published. Ever. I even have Rage and the Bachman Books.

Uh... That's bordering on a flame, and I don't much care for it thank you. And actually, I own a cell phone which I only use for work purposes and otherwise leave in the house, I hate the damn thing, as for other "cheap technological s**t" I own a computer, a TV and a DVD player, and that's about it. I don't even have an MP3 player.

My problems with Cell were that the metaphor was clumsy, the twists were predictable, and the ending was just a generic, tacked-on Hitchcock choose-your-own. I'm not saying it was a bad book, but it's nowhere near the level of The Stand, Jerusalem's Lot, Needful Things, DT 1-5, or most of the Bachman books either. It felt like I was reading something written by a fairly new modern/sci fi author rather than "The Master of Horror."

The major point he does get though, and I'll freely admit it, is that he covered the psychological aspect of a zombie world a lot better than anyone has since the original NoLD.

As for the ten years thing... I thought Dreamcatcher, Black House, The Plant, and most of the stories in Everything's Eventual were all better, personally.

Please do try to keep in mind that just because someone disagrees with you doesn't make them ignorant or stupid.

So, there is a new Stephen King book coming out this January! Who's going to buy it?


So anyway, I tried to read Marion Zimmer Bradley before, some book with Witches in the title, and I was bored out of my skull. People had told me she was good, but I couldn't believe it after trying that book.

But then I saw The Bloody Sun at a thrift store and picked it up, and I've been really into it. Its great. What is up with some authors being good some of the time, and really stinking it up other times?

Anyway, The Bloody Sun is a novel of Darkover. The main character, Jeff Kerwin, is raised on an orphanage there. When he is 12 he is sent back to earth to live with his paternal grandparents. His mother is unknown, but his father was an Earth spaceman. Anway, he works for an interspace company and transfers back to Darkover, the place he feels is his home. However, when he gets there, very odd things happen. He searches for his parents, but the government seals his files, and the orphanage denies he was ever there.

I won't say more, because I don't want to spoil it for people who haven't read it.
So does anyone know if the rest of her books are any good?

OMG, I love the Harry Dresden books by Jim Butcher. mad My library only has like 4 of them though.

I just finished reading Guilty Pleasures by Lawrence Sanders. It's kind of sick.

Right now I'm reading Main Street by Sinclair Lewis. It is just great. I feel for the main character. It's about a cultured young city lady who marries a country doctor and wants to turn around their lame smug uncultured town.

I'm currently reading Warstrider: Symbiots or something like that. To early to tell if it's good or not.
