Only an idiot could hurt themself with a reverse blade.. I own a full battle usaged one and I have never hurt myself once. I prefer it to normal swords in the fact I can fight to my full and never have to worry about killing someone. well, not counting blunt force but you know what I mean.
honestly... its not the sword, its the user. I have double bladed swords, training swords, no-dachis and a few others.

I prefer it to normal swords in the fact I can fight to my full and never have to worry about killing someone. well, not counting blunt force but you know what I mean. honestly... its not the sword, its the user. I have double bladed swords, training swords, no-dachis and a few others. Unless you payed around 1000-2000 bucks for it its not full battle usage. my friend thought because his sword was full tang it was battle ready and he hit a tree with it and the blade bent, it was like 200+ dollers and it claimed to be battle ready due it having a full tang... proved that wrong

vapordust would you ever use the reverse blade sword ? reverse blade is the worst blade to use, unless you just want to slit throats this thing is only good for self defense. a horrible offensive wepon...

Reverse blade is not that different from a normal sword, if you use it as it is, you'll snap bones, if you use a katana, you'll chop the whole limb off, it's indifferent as they both will cause massive damage.
Instead, consider special swords like a model of the Masamune. It's about 1 person long so it cuts with longer range and if made right has nice balance o_O; or if you wanna go for light and get close, look into A shamshir or a pair of katar. 3nodding

To me, I think the Reverse Blade was a good idea. You don't always have to fallow a certain kind of fighting style when using a blade. I actually see two simple reasons behind the Reverse Blade.
1) No one that fights you will take you seriously, hence be more likely to go easy on you, giving you the advantage.
2) It was meant to trick those who are acustomed to the blade being on the bottome, hence downward strikes. Most fighters back in the day did not do upward slashes with their sword. So the Reverse Blade was used for those people who stuck to the ground and used their fighting styles to do rising manuvers, like the upper-cut, only with the sword. With a normal Katana, you'd just smack them with the blunt side. With the Reverse Blade, you'd probably kill them.
I'd say, on the other side, that no one should use a Reverse Blade unless they know exactly how to use it and that know what they are doing. For like it was mentioned befor, it is a very dangerous tool.

After he kills it he cuts it tameshigiri style while it's on the skinning rack. Cleanly cuts through 'em! And all it has suffered is a cracked tsuka due to extensive use. And those are easily replaced/made. I made a few and customized them extravagantly too.
