It wasn't influenza, it was the plague. The Black Death, in Medieval times, was spread by coughing, sneezing, and perhaps even breathing on other people. The line 'a pocket full of poseys'? Poseys were a remedy for sneezing and coughing, so people wore them a lot. And then there's the part about calling for a tissue, and then they all fell down - dead. The plague had spread through the sneezing, and so they died.
Rather charming as a modern-day nursery rhyme, huh?

I can't say that I like the book versions written by The Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson. They are far too depressing and I can't stand them. The thing I can't understand is that they aren't banned. I mean there are several parents who will put up a fight over stuff like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Where's Waldo (I just had to put this one out there), then let their children read the old fashion fairy tales which are a whole lot worse than a lot of books that have been banned. Does this not make sense to anyone else?
Also for those of you who like the Disney movie Beauty and the Beast, there is another movie that is also called that but it is real life and takes place in New York. Its a movie from sometime in the 80's I think.
