ZaFatOne We have 29 flutes this year......... the second biggest section is the alto saxes.....they have 13....... way too much That is a lot, but if you think about it, Saxes are a lot easier to hear than flutes, especially when marching.... My class in my school was the flute class...last year we had I think 8 flutes, and only 1 person switched for marching season(the drum major) now we have three, and that's not including the 3 flute players that switched to low brass(myself included, although i switched to low woodwinds first!)

My highschool year I think there wer around 11 flutes in a 50 member band. That may seem alot, but it was always hard to hear us because everyone else was so darn loud. We had way too many saxes, not to mention trumpets who couldn't play soft if their life depended on it. In my current college band there's supposedly a whopping 2 flutes so far-counting me. Hopefully we'll get some more people as only 15 showed up for the first class.

We had way too many saxes, not to mention trumpets who couldn't play soft if their life depended on it. In my current college band there's supposedly a whopping 2 flutes so far-counting me. Hopefully we'll get some more people as only 15 showed up for the first class. yup same w/us we have 49 members and 13 flutes so they are the biggest section, but they're so quiet we need that many to hear them

Hell, we have a gazillion. I was in charge of attendance for flutes (before i switched over to Oboe)...it was horrible. But we have more A.Saxes; I feel awfully bad for thier section leader *shudder*
Ok, maybe not a gazillion. I think we had 20. In a 90 person 7th grade band.

We got a really funny message round today. It kept going on about "people who play instruments, come to a meeting." And so on. Then, in brackets, it said "bring your instruments." So it was supposed to trick you. But no-one in my form is musical anyway. Our form teacher tried to get us to sing in the choir, but then she gave in when she joined staff choir and realised how bad the choirs are. So she wants us all to be in orchestra now instead.

We have a pretty balanced flute section in Concert, Symphonic (the band I'm in), and Wind Ensemble. What's really great is that we have four tubs to about fourteen flutes. It may not seem like it, but it really balances nicely! The tubas are REALLY strong this year, and the flutes are too. But we manage to make it work. Our sound is wonderful!

Hmm... I suppose there is a fair amount of flutes at our school. Two just started playing again resently, too. There's six in the Senor High Band, which is a lot for one instrument.
