Several of these were already mentioned but, I'd suggest AzuManga Daioh, Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, Fruits Basket, Cardcaptor Sakura, and (if you like mysteries) Case Closed/Detective Conan.
Also, I'd suggest Outlaw Star, but I need to finish it first. Ben was telling me to skip an episode (but I don't skip episodes), and there may be questionable stuff in that episode.
Personally, I thought FMA was a good length. It was long enough for the characters and storyline to be developed well, yet short enough to keep from becoming repetitive or adding in episodes that bear absolutely no relevance (did you notice that something in every single episode (except maybe #37) had something that added to the plotline, whether it's a character, a random fact, or just part of character development).
One question though: You said that you watched the last episode, but have you seen the movie yet?

Hmm, I personally prefer the manga of FMA over the anime...It has a better plot and the characters aren't so dependent on dialouge that is somewhat shallow and bland.

Fullmetal_Flutist, good suggestion! I've only read the first seven mangas (#8 comes out in July), but it has a different plotline, and it's good so far.
(Spoilers, highlight to read)
Ending of episode 51 = Wha? Envy, Wrath, and Gluttony are still alive, Ed's in our world while Al's in theirs and Al wants to see Ed again, and Izumi's still alive in her condition?! There's too many unanswered questions!
Ending of FMA movie = Ed and Al are together, all the homunculi are dead (except Envy(?) I don't remember if he dies), Wrath finally sees Izumi as his mom (that was so sweet), and overall, it feels like a more complete ending.
There's more, but those were the things that bugged me the most about the ending.

hey kitty one thing: Envy did die if you remeber at the end of the series he turned into a dragon going through the gate. in the movie theres a dragon that attacks ed and then is captured and used to open the gate, that dragon is envy
another thing: The Fullmetal Alchemist movie comes out in the U.S. on October 3rd. crying crying crying crying crying such a long time to wait
oh just a little spoiler from the movie: the story takes place in our world (partly) at the time around WWII and HUGHES IS A NAZI

I think I like the manga better too. But just one thing.....I dont remember actually seeing Dante die........ what if she's still alive?!........

Thanks! It was kind of confusing there, since they showed Hohenheim getting eaten and then the gate was open.
How would she have escaped? She was in a closed elevator, and the only exit was a hole that leads who-knows-how-far-down (we don't know what floor she was on XD). Plus, she was rotting away, so there's a good chance that she would have died, even if she had escaped. If she had made it out, she would have shown up in the movie.
Besides, they already used the conspiracies on Tucker and Archer. XD
