I'll have to look around a bit before ordering them then... Nebraska doesn't have a lot of european import stuff but I know at one time we had a store that specialized in English imports. Thanks for the help smile

No problem mrgreen We're glad that there's something our cousin's in America want from us appart from Prince William

I don't know that anyone here especially wants prince William, but we love jellybabies, TV comedies, and of course the Doctor.

Actually, England has always had a lot to offer. Pippin, you might want to come someday to Williamsburg VA, here in America. It is a perfectly preserved/restored 18th century English town, and the old House of Burgesses looks exactly like a miniature version of the Commons, with all the trappings. It is amazing, and a good reminder of our roots.

Williamsburg is still very cool, though. The authentic 18th Century back gardens are often overlooked but beautiful. (Also there's the non-historical side of the area, up Hwy. 60...wall to wall tourism! And great big Outlet Shopping Centers! And best of all, the Williamsburg Pottery! biggrin There's also a big Water Park & Busch Gardens, but I don't go to those.)
Next weekend I'm going up to visit friends in Newport News VA, so we'll probably go up there to shop & eat at a fantastic Asian Buffet/Mongolian Grill place on 60... heart

Bemish is awesome. xd I haven't been there in years though. My mum used to get free tickets on the Unison days....

Back on topic, Jelly Babies are groovy. I liked them before I knew the doctor had them. Years and years before. Haha! Hell, everyone should eat Jelly Babies.

woo!
There are about 5 different kinds of jelly babies in the supermarkets in australia.
of course, I never buy them. I don't really like them.
But Timelady carries them with her at all times, along with little bits of red liquorice, or so I'm told, and randomly gives them to people. and eats them herself.

I'm almost certain I saw him with a white paper bag, eating candies out of it. It was in one of those segments in "Trial of a Time Lord" .

Okay...everyone keeps asking where you can find them in America.

You can't.

At least not normally. If you're lucky enough to have a store that sells british imports, including food stuff, they will tell you that they are unable to import them because they contain Red Dye #2 (or some other number), which is considered a mild carcenogen.

However, if you know someone who lives in England or visits there, there is nothing saying they can't buy them and mail them or bring them here. Every now and then, they show up at Doctor Who or other sci-fi conventions because individual dealers go buy them to sell at the conventions. The only problem is, by the time they get to you they are usually stale. I was lucky enough to get some fresh ones, and the difference was like night and day. But stale or fresh, they are good.

Actually, the "black" ones are supposed to be purple.

The red ones are carcenogenic?? Oh... it's the blue smarties all over again...

On the other hand, I'm sure the traditional ones (i.e. bought in a paperbag at a sweetie shop rather than the ones in plastic bags) probably don't have many strong colourants in at all. Surely you could import those?

If any of you live in the Midwest US, Woodman's Grocery Stores carries them in their International Food aisle. They are located in lower Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.
