I agree completely. It's the sexy badboy thing. I love pirates and bandits, and always will. My sites and fanfiction prove my obsessiveness, but I also plan on cosplaying as Tasuki...but girl Tasuki. (HAHA IRONIC!)

Tasuki is the best!!!! *mauls Tasuki and drags him off kicking and screaming eek * Mine now blaugh !!!! Though I'll share if I have to... crying

Not to spark anything, but I just don't see what so many people see in Tasuki. He's not the best looking or the most interesting (though he is more interesting than Tamahome, though that's really not saying much) and he's so... straightforward. He doesn't have depth. The only other main character that I can think of with a similar lack of depth is Miboshi, and that's only because so little is known about him (Tamahome has depth, though it's not very deep depth, and it's boring depth, but it's there). With Tasuki, there's really not all that much to explore.

This is just my opinion, based on what I've read and seen of Fushigi Yuugi (which is almost everything that's been translated into English). I took the time to explain what I think and write my thoughts out carefully (and hopefully with minimal spelling errors) so please don't flame me too much or send me hate mail or anything. If you take exception to my opinions, let's discuss it like rational human beings, as opposed to rabid fangirls/boys.

Thank you.

I think it's just people have different taste in men. I, for one, did not like Orlando Bloom's character in Pirates of the Caribbean, but LOVE Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp). I do know people who don't like pirates though, and they loved Will Turner (Orlando Bloom). It's just what attracts you.

I must say that I disagree with the fact that you think Tasuki lacks depth, although I'm glad that you don't think Tamahome is Suzaku's gift to all mankind, because then I would have had to just ignore you. (No offense to Tamahome-lovers, but...c'mon...how is he different from any other hero-boy? DON'T KILL ME TAMAHOME FANS! I BEG OF YOU!)

Anyway, back to Tasuki. Being straightforward doesn't mean you have no personality...it just means you can't think of any other way to say what you feel. I mean, girls are highly characterized at the fact that we are not straightforward at all. Tasuki grew up with four older sisters...four. He was the youngest, and the only son. Wow. But, he's obviously not going to be too touch-feely, since his one sister, Ai, liked to beat him with logs...poor baby...no wonder he doesn't like girls very much...

He says what's on his mind, which is very cool for me. I hate it when people don't say what they're really thinking, they just keep their mouths shut. (Yes, I am a hypocrite in that fashion, since I do that. All the time.)

The thing with Tamahome is that he has no flaws. And let me say to all who oppose my opinion, that being greedy is NOT a flaw when you are greedy so you can provide for your poor family. That does not count as a flaw. That just makes you a big family guy which = perfection for most girls.

Tasuki, on the other hand, seems to have a lot of layers. Although he isn't much into the whole "I love you, you're so important to me, blah blah blah", he does have emotion; he's not some mindless swearing, drinking machine. Like when Nuriko died, he cried. That shows emotion and depth and caring in one go.

He seems to care about all of the shichiseishi and Miaka so much. He just seems like the type of person who would do anything to make someone smile, even if he was having the worst day of his life. He would just ignore that and focus on the other person's problem.

What I find interesting about Tasuki is that so much of his past is pushed aside. Hidden, not nonexistant. For those who have read Genrouden, you know that he ran away from home, then seemed to just push his memories of family and home to the back of his mind. Like when the only girl he could stand (Rei Rei) died, he mourned her, then pushed her into the back of his mind, knowing that, sometimes, it is better not to dwell in the past.

But that's what I think is so interesting about him; he's such a well-written character...he just seems so real, because he has the tendancies and habits of a real person.

But, I must disagree completely with your opinion that he is not the best looking. Because...because DAMN! I think he's so fine!

I dunno... Tasuki isn't that hot or nothing... but he's got such a great badboy thing going on for him, that he looks real smexseh anyways... his hair bothers me, though.. then again, all FY hair bugs me, because it makes me incapable of drawing fanart >< I can only draw Nuriko, Chichiri, Chiriko and Miaka... wish I could draw Hotohori-sama... then I'd make my room a shrine to him with my own fanart all over! ^o^

I think I understand what you're trying to say about Tasuki, that his character depth is his straightforwardness. Thinking back on all the FY I've seen and read, it makes sense. I just don't find his personality or his appearence to be attractive.

I just drew Tasuki's hair again...and again...and again...until I was awesome at it. I'm really bad at Chichiri's hair though, because I always screw up the angle... stressed

Aww, Hotohori! I drew this huge fanart poster for my one friend, Nyan Nyan, who LOVES Hotohori. I didn't want to even TRY with the hair, so I just did a close up of his face with some hair on the sides, because I was afraid I'd mess it up!! sweatdrop

Oh, for some reason, I could always draw Chichiri's hair.. pro'lly cuz it's the easiest >< And I tried so many times at Nuriko, I finally got it... and Miaka's hair is a lot like my style.... all the others are impossibible..... really...damned Watase-sensei and her amazing hair of dooom ><

Well, my favorite character's gotta be Chichiri. He's just such a fascinating character. I won't get too deep into that, though, since I highly doubt you wanna hear me ramble about him for paragraphs on end! I wish Watase had given him -- and all the side characters -- more screen time. They were so much more interesting than Miaka and Tamahome, know what I mean? But maybe that's just me. (No offense to Miaka and Tama-lovers! ^^; )

Maybe it's a little late to get into the Tasuki Debate, but I find Tasuki to be a very interesting character. I think, as far as char. development goes, Watase left him open to a lot of speculation, which is great for character-analists like me. ^.^ Especially after the infamous OVA episode (damn demons...). But I guess I could also see why you wouldn't think he was very developed. (See above comment about side characters)

Nakago?! O... kay... Sorry, but I have a very hard time seeing what people like about that guy. I loved hating him, but that was as good as it got. sweatdrop But I'd love to hear your reasons! If nothing else, maybe it'll help me understand that different perspective on the ol' bas... er, seishi... ^^;

Meep!

Sorry if I sounded harsh or rude there. Damn text-based conversation. I said all of that with good-humor, I assure you. I don't particularly care for Nakago, but I never take that kind of thing seriously. I'm sorry if I gave you another impression, of if I offended you... redface

Actually I have read Seiran Den! It was a nicely-written novel, probably one of the best of the Gaidens. But it didn't really change my opinion of Mister Seishi Shogun. I felt sorry for Nakago during the first couple chapters, but, I dunno... I guess, to me, a crappy past doesn't give you an excuse to act like he did. He was very unscrupulous in his scheming, manipulating and tricking everyone... I normally have a soft spot for villains, but something about Nakago just rubbed me the wrong way. Go figure. But I guess I can understand why you'd feel differently. It's probably just the way we look at things.

::Chuckle::

Apologies...I aslo meant my post in good humor...seeing as my Avatar name is Nakago..thus I was illuding to you making those assumptions about ME, less the character, asw ell as the character itsself.

A very interesting synopsis of your thoughts/feelings...Perhaps it is just determined by where, how, when, etc. we see things..so then one must ask...how can we take differing opinions such as this, and still blend togtether to make for a peaceful environment? (Which is not to say explicitly, that you and I , or anyone else for that matter is going to FIGHT over suchthings...not aat all what I mean...however...when applied to greater issues...the case may then apply.)

I hope I wrote that the way i meant it to come out... sweatdrop
