I'm not going to repeat what I feel because most people here have already covered it. That Buffy loved Spike in her own way.
But still, BuffyxSpike always make me angry. Things just moved slow for them, which I understand why COMPLETELY. But to me, it seemed like Buffy wasn't really true to her feelings for him...okay let me rephrase that...Buffy was true to feelings about him but I feel that she just didn't show them enough. I dunno, I may be just rambling, but it's what I feel, that I have my doubts that Buffy really loved Spike.
And let us not forget in the episode, "End of Days" when Buffy was very quick to lock lips with Angel, even though Spike gave her strengh after their night together. That pissed me off. So, yea, I have doubts that Buffy truly loved Spike. But, did she love him in her way? Yes. She said plenty of times that she "feels for him," which is a form of love, compassion. But that's not enough to call it "true love," in my opinion, and for this situation.

This couple is bitter sweet, they have had their moments of love and in the end tragedy.I mean right before Spike turns to dust Buffy tells him,she loves him. I think she truly meant that she loved him. Through thick and thin, they have faced obstacles togeher and they won the battle. I always cry whenever I see Spike die, and the sad thing is SMG never guest starred during Season 5 of Angel when Spike and Angel went to Rome. I wanted Buffy to see the two men she loved again.
Talk?LOL I can so ramble!I love SPUFFY! I just love their chemistry, they have an love/hate relationship. But,they can't help but, want eachother. At first their relationship I think was just lust but, when Spike died in Season 7 and Buffy told him she loved him,I think she actually meant she loved Spike. She was just too afraid to admit that she loved him in case something bad would happen like it did with her first love Angel. Her love for Spike I must admit was complicated and his love for her was very confusing and complex for him. Here Spike is a vampire who wants the slayer. Vampires usually don't fall in love with the slayer but, Spike and Angel did. I just love watching Buffy and Spike's interaction. Its an dangerous liason but, yet its so damn hot .You just have to love them together~
I loved when Buffy and Spike would fight a lot.it just made me want to yell at the tv "Kiss her or Kill her, make up your mind already!" Than when they got together i just loved their interaction! The rumble(fighting) and er the other rumble! I don't know it really makes me all happy watching Spuffy.

She loved him, but she would hardly admit it to anyone including herself. Saying that at the end would be really hard for her ...

I think Buffy did love Spike. WHO WOULDN'T?! I think that she didn't want to admit it because she didn't want to seem weak.

izzygirlxp I like how in 'Once More with Feeling' at the end when she sang that one part about wanting to feel *something* I always took that as a little foreshadowing of things to come *nudge nudge* Thats a great episode! and I dont think they meant it that way but I could be wrong...

I think Buffy and Spike are the 2nd best relationship on Buffy (after Willow and Tara of course) biggrin

Spike was just Buffy's "bad boy" toy. I mean how many vampires with a soul are out there, she doesn't have many choices with that one...

of course she really loved him!! after what he did for her, after all that trying so hard to get her. i think she finally realized that she loved him. He mad her feel like a real person. they were meant to be. and I could have killed Joss for killing spike in the end. but could kiss him when he brought my baby back in angel.

i think buffy and spike r quite simalar, so it makes sense 4 them 2 feel sumthin. In season 7, spike had 2 say u don't love me, or else buffy would probably stayed and died with him

I don't think Buffy really "loved" Spike. When it comes to season seven anyway. I think that she knew how he felt about her,..and she saw how willing he was to scarifice himself for her cause. And that Buffy felt sorry for Spike and said she loved him out of a type of pity.

Hrm. A lot of people have already said what I want to say, and I do hate to reiterate a point, but maybe I can spin a different perspective on it. (Hopefully, anyhow!)
As much as everyone loves the Spike/Buffy relationship, it was a very unhealthy relationship. In the very first episode we see Spike, he already has a hankering for killing Buffy. He then, throughout the series, becomes obsessed with her. Stalks her in a sense. Obsession leads to the realization that there could be feelings (Season 4, "Something Blue" is where I think this begins). Spikey gets a chip in the head and becomes a neutered pup, thereby having an excuse to be around Buffy more often because he can 'hurt demons'. (I still think this was just a ploy because fangirls everywhere were either 'Waaah, bring back Angel' or 'ZOMG Spike is hot, have them get together!') In Season 5, Spike was a little insane in his obsession - in the episode "Out of My Mind" is when he first realizes that he 'loves' Buffy, via his dreams. He wakes up at that point and say 'Oh god no. Please no.' When Buffy goes to him for help defeating Glory(Season 5, "Fool for Love"), he recants to her the story of his first love, and how he became a vampire and killed two Slayers he tries to get her attention, to get her to dance. Her immortal words in that episode are "You're beneath me." And still, the obsession continues with the creation of the Buffy-bot. A robot designed for Spike to have, hold and abuse sexually because he could not have the real thing. Despite how disgusted Buffy was by that, at the end of Season 5, you could see that Buffy trusted (and perhaps cared - though I don't know if I'd agree with that) enough for Spike to have him do the most important task - take care of Dawn. When we return in Season 6, we have him saying (after Buffy asks how long she's been gone for) "Hundred forty-seven days yesterday. Uh ... hundred forty-eight today. 'Cept today doesn't count, does it?", clearly still showing signs of obsession even after Buffy had died (and no, don't jump on me. I do realize that some people count the days after a 'loved one' has passed on). Season 6 progresses, and we see that they are using each other - Spike to get what he wants, and Buffy to be able to feel something after she came back 'wrong'. Lust is what started it, and while that is in no way a 'bad' thing, it does not show that she loved him. Cared for him, yes. Loved no. We also see at the end of Season 6 just how far things have gone. Spike tries to rape Buffy (Season 6, "Seeing Red"), and she says "Ask me again why I could never love you.". Then Spike goes off into the night to 'fix' himself, and we head into Season 7. Things change in Season 7. Buffy begins to rely more on her friends, and even Spike (even when he is crazy, and found out to be killing people again). In the episode "Lies My Parents Told Me", Buffy doesn't save Spike from Robin because she loved him, she saves him because "Spike is the strongest warrior we have. We are gonna need him if we're gonna come out of this thing alive. You try anything again, he'll kill you. More importantly, I'll let him. I have a mission to win this war, to save the world. I don't have time for vendettas. The mission is what matters." The mission is what matters, yet we still find Buffy turning to Spike for solace and comfort in the days to come. Why? Because he was there an unattached, and a far better companion than Andrew. Because it really could have been the end of the world, and who wouldn't want to spend their last few days having someone love them? At the very end, in "Chosen", we hear Buffy tell Spike that she loves him. The question here is, did she really love him? Yes. Not in any 'true love' or 'soulmates' sense of the word, but she did care deeply for him. Enough so that she trusted him with the task of using the talisman to save them all. Some could argue that this was a selfish act on her part - have Spike act as champion and use the talisman so that she could keep Angel safe (and I'm going out on a limb here to say that I'm not the only one who thought that is why it worked out the way it did). Could Spike and Buffy have ever had a true and lasting relationship? No. It was too unhealthy, and without a lot of changes on both their parts a relationship between them would never have worked.
Y'all think you babble a lot, I've not even said half of what I want/could say on it! xd
