It's not that I didn't like Xenosaga II, but I liked Xenosaga I a ton more.
My first problem was the voice actor switch. Maybe it was the fact that I was so used to the ones from Xenosaga I, but I felt that the VAs from the first episode suited the characters. It was the worst when I first started playing XSII because I was so accustomed the the voices from XSI, unfortunately after finishing the game, I still did not like them at all.
In addition to the VA switches, I didn't like the new character designs very much. This is mostly directed at KOS-MOS. I didn't like the fact that she looked like she had an aquarium inside of her, and I didn't like her face. The aquarium part is self explainatory. I didn't like her face because I just didn't look like Kosy. In episode I, KOS-MOS looked cute, in ep. II, she looked 30. Her hair also changed. This may not sound like it's very important, but I gave a lot of credit to Monolith for her hair in Ep. I. I thought that they picked a perfect shade of blue for her, but in Ep. II, they killed it. Did I mention she looked totally different?
MOMO's was okay...but they kind of made her look stretched out, and that was weird. Her face and body were longer, and that looked funny. I guess it's just because they tried to change Xenosaga from Anime to realistic.
Chaos's hair looked stupid in Ep. II. I liked the sprouts!
I don't think that they could've done anything to make me dislike Shion even more, so let's just skip her.
I don't remember if there was anything that I particularly didn't like for the other characters, but stand by on that one, because I haven't played the game in a while.
Length. Far to short. When I first bought the game, I was like, "Yay! Two discs! I know it's two discs because I read that they were going to change from disc 9 to disc 6 (something like that), but I'm just going to ignore that fact and be slap happy because more Xenosaga=More fun!"
When the [change disc] screen appeared I almost cried. Then I decided to be angry instead of upset and screamed at the Xenosaga II case.
Battle system...liked Episode I's more, but II's was kinda original and everything too. No tech attacks make me angry!
Character Devolopment. Considering the character development that Xenosaga I had, II did not live up to its predecesor. My first complaint about the character development of II was Ziggy. He pretty much had no important parts in the storyline until the end when he tried to take out voyager because of his past (spoilers, so I won't say).
MOMO...she was my favorite character. In episode I, there was tons of information about her (or lack thereof) with the Y-Data, and Mizrahi, Albedo, U-tic, relationship with Jr., etc. By "lack thereof" I meant the lack of information about what was "inside of her", aka Y-data. In episode II, once Albedo stole the Y-Data, all of her background with Mizrahi and Albedo and U-tic pretty much doesn't have any meaning. She wasn't important anymore. And in her relationship with Jr., you learn in further depth his relationship with Sakura. I was all, "Hey...that's a crap love story." <- Jr. and MOMO's, not Jr. and Sakuras.
KOS-MOS. She was just kind of there...She got new equipment, AMWS or AGWS or I don't remember...*cry* and I got the "Teehee, that's cool-ness!" factor, but there wasn't a lot of development like in Episode I where they had her original, they whole two years ago incident, blue eyes, saving the Elsa, etc.
chaos. Still don't know a substancial amount of information about him except the fact that his name is Yeshua, and you only learn that at the way end. Also, in regards to the end cutscene, it sucked. I cried when it ended and not because I didn't want the game to end, but because I felt incredibly jipped. Not exactly a huge problem that we've still yet to discover what chaos really is (we know he was at Miltia and rescued Jr.) but I would like there to have been a tiny tiny hint at who he really is. Not a full discovery of course though, that's episode III's job.
Shion just made me hate her even more. If that's even possible. Which I totally just contradicted my previous statement that it wasn't possible.
Jr...nothing to complain about. I liked the whole unveiling of URTVs, Jr, Gaignun, Albedo thing. *thumbs up* Yay.
I really hope no one read through all of that because then I would feel sorry for them that I wasted their time. That was just totally a semi rant about how much I was disappointed in Episode II. So, in summary, Episode I wins, hands down.

You are right about alot of things. Kosy does seem old, and her outfit's no longer hot. But epi 3 will change all that!
Well, in epi2 the storyline sucked cuz it didn't really do much. The focuses were mostly on Jr.
And yes, having a disc 1+2 was meaningless, I mean, disc 1 had barely anything on it. 1 disc would have been enough.
