Garrat sighed in exasperation. He could just push her off so he could leave, but that would go against the implied codes of chivalry. "Toy with you? I wouldn't say I have been," he said. "I'm not the kind of man to fall willy-nilly for a woman's charms. I assumed you would know this by now, Lady Rosa."
They couldn't dillydally in this stable any longer. Garrat had to return to Nathan's side. Perhaps he could incite disinterest somehow. "What would you have to gain from me, anyhow? I have nothing to my name and my face will wear away with age. I'm sure you should be much more interested in the other knights. They have estates, many have noble families of their own, and they wouldn't dare resist your charms."

Rosa groaned and held him down, "Garrat, you are just too shy for yo' own good", she giggled, " you're right. I could essentially have any man I want... So why can't I have you?" She asked. Soon she leaned in closer to Garrat, " you can't seriously enjoy watching over a burden of blood like Nathaniel over one passion filled night with me..." She smirked, thinking he was finally going to answer her honestly.
In Nathan's room, he managed to get up top the over hang and started feeding the little bird bread crumbs. The sparrow ate up vigorously and chirped, it even let the prince pet him. "Hehe, oh wait until Garrat sees you... " he whispered to himself. " what should I call you?" A list was already forming in Nathan's head as to what he would need for his new pet. But before he could come up with a name, another bird chirped outside his window and the little sparrow flapped its wings a flew out of the opening, leaving as quickly as he came. Nathaniel sighed and slouched over in small crawl space under the ceiling. I guess a pet just isn't for everyone... he looked down and then got a tightening gut in his feeling. "... Ohh..." How do I get down? he asked himself. Surely it couldn't be too difficult.. Right?

Garrat had to resist gritting his teeth at the mention of Nathaniel. He was no burden! "You speak as if you know me. So what if I prefer to watch over Nathaniel?" he said as he pushed her away a bit. Not so much that she was off, but her face was at least a bit farther from his own. "Rosa, it would be better if you set your sights on someone else. To be blunt, I have no attraction for you." If this continues, Garrat felt that he would have to push Rosa off him even if she wouldn't want to. In all honesty, she was becoming a nuisance at the moment. "Can you imagine a night together? I'd be without passion and horrible!"

Rosa was pushed back and she took it as, essentially an insult. But she wasn't so crass as to hit or scream about it, only dig deeper in the bleeding wound. "How can you like it? You're always inside. You've stayed by him for years now and you get nothing in return!" She pointed to the door, "everyone in the castle wonders why we keep a sickly boy like him in the castle, Maneurva said so. The only people who really care about him are you and the Queen..." She sat up, " now I understand he's a sweet boy, but you're wasting your time with skinny little flower that could die before it blooms..." She slouched and reach out to gently touch his hair," I'm just giving you chance to live a little, Garrat... You're only human..." She giggled then, and leaned in again as an attempt kiss his cheek.
In the distance a horse walked over and glanced down at the two in hay and noticed some straw in the fair maiden's hair. The stallion bent his neck down and nipped at her hair and ended up lifting her up off of the knight. She hollered in pain and looked up and just as sh got herself free, the horse sneezed on her and sprayed her with slobbery horse snot. In shock and in embarrassment she curse at the horse and stormed out of the stable in a maddened tizzy. The young stallion whinnied and turned to his water trough.

As soon as Rosa left, Garrat breathed a sigh of relief and quickly made his way back to Nathan's room. At least he didn't have to worry about having been particularly rude with the maiden, though he wished he didn't have to be so polite around her either. It would seem that she refused to accept that he didn't want to do anything with her. How troublesome...
Upon returning to the room, Garrat noticed Nathaniel was stuck on the overhang of his bed. "My lord, what are you doing up there?" he questioned, hurrying to the overhang and holding out his arms. "Drop down, I'll catch you!" He had forgotten that he should have cleaned himself before returning to the room, or else Nathaniel might be affected by the substances of the stable.

Garrat came back and Nathan looked down smiled.. And the frowned, "Garrat, just call me Nathan.... You don't need to be so formal with me.." He smiled and then looked around to remember his predicament," Right, well uhh there was a bird.. And well I'm stuck.. " he blushed as he looked down. Then, that tightening feeling returned in the boy's gut. " huh I'm not sure, Garrat, It's awfully high up.. I don't think I can do it.. " he shook his head.
Nathan looked around for a way to get down and then with a nervous look in his eyes and smiled shakily, "you promise you'll catch me...? " asked as he slowly positioned himself to jump down.

"Yes, I'll catch you. Now, get down," Garrat promised, not moving from his spot. "You can trust me. Have I ever let you down before?" He would have to scold Nathaniel later about the bird. Knowing that the prince wasn't very fond of heights, one would think he wouldn't be trying to chase a bird on the overhang. What could he have been thinking? "Once you're on the floor again, you have a bit of explaining to do."

Nathaniel giggled as Garrat ordered him down. If he was to be in trouble, maybe it best that the boy simply stays up there. But knowing that couldn't be so, he closed his eyes and dropped down and into Garrat's strong arms. He held his breath until he knew Garrat securely had him,"am I too heavy?" he thought out loud.
He shook and clung onto his knight, thankful that the man was there to hold and catch the prince as his heart raced and fluttered like a little bird. Slowly, he pulled his face back and smiled at the soldier and embraced him around his neck. Then, bring his face close, Nathan found himself brushing his fingers against the long haired man's cheek and then gently through his hair. "You've got straw in your hair..." He giggled and started plucking the grass out of it. Hay wasn't so bad in small quantities for Nathan. Just when he played in too much of it, then he'd get itchy. "Heheh, did you get the cat?" He asked, hoping the man would forget about why Nathan was up there in the first place.

Garrat felt his heart skip a beat when Nathaniel fell into his arms and then his face became rather red when their faces were close. Setting Nathan down and letting him pick out the hay, the knight gritted his teeth when the cat was mentioned, causing him to remember Rosa and what she thought of the prince. "The cat got away, or so I was told," he muttered. "It doesn't matter much to me. I'd rather not deal with cats at the moment."
Garrat had momentarily forgotten the prince's previous predicament. As soon as he recalled, the knight glared at Nathan, though hopefully not harshly. "Now, why were you chasing after a bird?" he questioned now. "You should have known better than to climb an overhang for it."

Nathan laughed at first about the cat. Although Garrat was good with most of the animals among the estate, Tibs would give him the most trouble. "Hehehe, aww don't worry, it'll come when cook feeds her." His laugh then shied away as be sat down in his bed. He explained to Garrat that a bird had flown into his room. "And I couldn't just let the little one stay up there. I was just going to chase it out. And then as soon as I get up there, it flew away... Oh you should've seen it ,Garrat. It was so cute..." He smiled and wished he could show it's friend.
Taking a blanket and wrapping over his legs, his sweet smile began to fade again. He yawned and leaned back in bed... "Garrat..... Are you mad that I climbed up there?" He asked again. There was another question lingering on his mind... But as of lately, he just wanted to me make sure Garrat was alright. Today has probably been the most they talked in a long time. He yawned once again and rubbed his eye a bit.

BrokenScreamBox Garrat shook his head again. Why would he be mad about that?"You sounded like you wanted the bird as a pet," he said. "At least we have established that you can be around birds." He sat on a chair near the bed and looked out the window once more. It was getting rather late and there was a slight rain outside. "Shall I get some dinner for you?"
He realized how much he missed talking with Nathaniel. The knight began to fear that he wouldn't be able to go back to his silence in the next day after that. A part of him didn't mind, though. Nathaniel looked so happy when they talked. Perhaps just keeping him happy would help keep Garrat's mind off his secret.

Nathan giggled as he curled up in bed, "I guess I did... But wouldn't birds hate me like Flegel does?" He asked. The rain started to patter outside and it made him excited a little. His friend offered to get some dinner and the prince nodded, a bit hungry now. "Let's eat together~ " he suggested, attempting to get out of bed again. "Can I help?" He asked curiously.

Garrat chuckled when Nathaniel mentioned Flegel, but became uneasy when the prince tried to get out of bed. Then again, he seemed to be alright now, but there were the Queen's orders... "I can bring the food back myself. You seem to be recovering a lot, but I still have orders from your mother to consider," the knight replied before leaving. Again, he paused in the hallway to make sure Nathaniel didn't try to leave, this time pausing multiple times and for a few seconds more, before finally going to the kitchen to retrieve dinner.

Nathan didn't move anywhere this time. He waited patiently for his friend's return and walked over to the window to watch the rain fall. The swans and pushed through the water with their goslings to get out of the rain.
While Garrat was away, the eldest brother Joseph came to check in on his youngest brother and see how he was doing. The eldest came in and showed a few papers to the boy. "Hi Joseph..." he muttered. It was always strange for these two to be around each other. Joseph was to be a ruler of his own kingdom someday and when he saw Nathan, the conversations were odd. This was probably the only time the younger prince felt important for this sort of talk however, even though he didn't quite know what it was for. Joseph generally remained quiet when he was with Nathan, and placed a map in front of him. "The battle plans need recalibrating. I need you to go over them, just in case I'll need to.." Joseph blurted and handed him a pen. "Uh.. okay...." he asked. Nathan did so as he looked over the map and markings on it. Nathan was actually incredibly strategic and wise when it came to stuff like this. All the time he was cooped up inside gave him plenty of time for reading and learning several things about war strategies and farming techniques, and really anything that would be useful in the success of a kingdom. But the entire castle made it very clear that the boy probably wouldn't live long enough to see himself get anywhere, being sick all the time. When he was finished, Joseph left as quickly as he came in, with out muttering so much as a thank you or a goodbye.
Nathaniel sighed and listened to the rain, but then a bright flash blinded the boy with a loud crack of thunder following behind it. Frightened, Nathan hurried under the covers and hid, covering his ears from the loud noise.

The kitchen wasn't as crowded this time, so Garrat was able to return to the room sooner than he had before. After entering the room, he immediately noticed the lump in the sheets and guessed either Nathaniel had fallen asleep or something had spooked him. A roaring thunder suggested the latter, and the knight set the trays on a nearby table before heading to the bed to coax the prince out of hiding.
"I've returned, my lord," he said, pulling the blankets back a bit. He supposed the prince couldn't hear him, with those hands over his head and all.
