Jessica Cara Avery
Fourth Year Ravenclaw
Fourteen Year Old - Pureblood
Younger Sister

                                                      Location : East Wing

Jessica was seemingly struggling with herself these days. If it wasn’t for the fact that she had schoolwork to worry about she’d be completely screwed. It was the only though keeping her distracted. Her studies mattered a lot to her, always had. Her brother had always bugged her about it but now she was grateful. It was hard grappling with what one believed and what one felt. At times exhausting but at least she could drown it out with a bit of light reading.

The fourth year Ravenclaw found comfort in the seclusion of the east wing. It was quiet and no one would likely bother her there. Besides it practically felt like a common room, just with less people wandering in and out. A fact that Jessica liked quite a bit. The only person likely to go looking for her was her cousin, which he always knew where to find her. Though, she doubted that he would disturb her when she was concentrating on her studies.

Status : Dealing with my thoughts
Company : Alone with my books and my thoughts

                                                      OOC : - - -

                                                      Miss GryffindorK

Your father's child, indeed, my dear girl
Yes, I see a thirst for knowledge
And a quick and creative mind, as well
                                                      Ravenclaw!

It seemed everywhere she went she either saw Aldrick or something that reminded her of him. It was difficult to be heartbroken, especially when she didn't want to bother her brothers or her parents with her sadness. Sure, it'd probably be better if she did, but she had already made up her mind. Walking through the east wing, Jess cradled her books a bit closer to herself, for once glad that she didn't have to hear the world. Her head hurt bad enough without noise.

Just as she found a nice place to sit, the redhead realized another girl had already claimed the spot. With a frown, Jessie decided she was still going to hide here, with the girl's permission, of course. Setting her books down, Jessie opted to sign, since she didn't feel much like talking. There was about a 2% chance the other girl would know BSL, but Jessie wasn't sure if she had paper with her to write notes. "Would you be angry if I sat here? I just need a place to hide out for a while. I'll be quiet, I promise."

Ever since Roxie had said she had written lyrics for her own songs, but refused to show Liv what she'd written about, Liv had been super curious about Roxie's music. During one of the music clubs meetings, Liv had sneaked into Roxie's bag and "borrowed" one of Roxie's notebooks. She'd done a quick copy spell and then studied the book later. The lyrics were definitely very perverse and rose some curiosities in Liv, but the music was sound. While Roxie was in class, Liv had been practicing the guitar riffs to some of the songs that Rox had written. After about a week of practicing, Liv was pretty sure she could play at least two of the songs from memory. So she left a note for Roxie pinned to the dorm door to meet her after her last class. Liv was practicing in the East Wing since it was out of the way and most kids avoided it since there was a lot of dust here. Liv had her guitar strapped to her back as she arrived in the wing, then found a nice place to sit. After casting a cleaning charm, she started strumming out of the dirty songs that Roxie had written, smirking the entire time.

xxxx Wʜᴀᴛ's Gᴏɪɴɢ Oɴ? Playing MY music????
xxxxx Wʜᴀᴛ's Iɴsɪᴅᴇ Mʏ Hᴇᴀᴅ? How did she get that?!

Roxie was running about, trying to keep herself together as she did a million pages of homework. All her classes had gotten oodles harder now that she was officially in the NEWTs level. As much as Liv swore they wouldn't need "real jobs" after graduation, Roxie wasn't about to risk their music not playing out. She'd left class to go up to her room just long enough to grab some other books, then she was planning to go to the library for another study session. Instead, she spotted a note addressed to her on the door.

Dangit Liv. Roxie sighed, but figured she could study a little extra after quidditch practice. The blonde got dressed in comfy clothes, rather than wearing her uniform all day. She also grabbed her guitar, certain her friend was actually wanting to practice whatever song she'd been working on. With a sigh, she grabbed her satchel of lyrics and music sheets, then headed up to the east wing. Why Liv wanted to meet there, she'd never know.

Walking up, she heard a familiar melody that froze her in her tracks. "Oh no." That tune was absolutely not one she'd anticipated hearing. No wonder they were meeting in the least populated part of school. Roxie sped up, skittering to a stop at the person playing the music. "Liv!! What are you doing?! Stop!!" If that one got out (or some of the others) Roxie would get detention forever! "Where did you.... How did you..." Someone must have stolen it out of her bag! But wasn't it just there this morning????

Olivia was strumming through the song and mouthing along the lyrics, since she didn't want someone to stumble upon her singing Roxie's perverse lyrics. She heard Roxie's voice call out and Liv stopped playing, glancing over at her blonde best friend. "Oh hey Rox!" She smirked a little when Roxie seemed bewildered that Olivia knew her song, then grabbed her backpack and pulled out the duplicate copy of Roxie's notebook. "I might have duplicated your notebook to see what was so secretive about your songs. Roxanne Archer, who knew you were so perverse?" Liv giggled, then set down her guitar before jumping up from her seat and grabbing her backpack. She stuffed the notebook back into her bag. "I only read a few songs but jeez, there's some things I need to Google when I have internet again." Liv chuckled again, wondering what else lurked in Roxie's lyric notebook. She knew that Roxie liked girls, but some of the things she'd read in the lyrics were... well, graphic. They did raise some questions for Olivia though...

It was dang close to a nightmare!! Had she dozed off on the way or was this true???? And then the fifth year pulled out Roxie's notebook. Wait... how?! The blonde shook her head a bit as Liv said she had duplicated the book, a frown settling on Roxie's face. "You did what??? What do you mean you duplicated my notebook?!" She rooted through her bag, pulling out the original. At least Liv hadn't gotten the other notebook.

The older Gryffindor huffed a sigh, pinching the bridge of her nose before swiping at the book as Liv shoved back into her bag. Dammit. Green eyes rolled hard as Liv said she'd need to Google a few things. "Liv, they're not perverse, they're just... private! There was a reason I didn't want to show those to you. Or to anyone, for that matter!" The only brief bit of thanks was that Liv hadn't shared any of this with Jo.... oh lord, what if she'd shared this?! "At least tell me you didn't show anyone else?"

Roxie seemed really out of sorts that Liv had dived into her book and she didn't want to upset her friend. Opening her bag, she took the book back out and handed it over to Rox. "If it upsets you that much though, here. Girlie, I just wanted to see. It's some really good music and damn, the lyrics though..." She giggled again, remembering some of the words that Roxie had written in her songs. Liv really did have some things to Google, but she had written those in a different place, and put them in her shorthand code, so no one else would be able to read them. "I get being a little embarrassed to show them, but like, it's cool and stuff and I'd like to play your music too. We're both the main brains behind Mysticka and like... I don't want us to only play my stuff. I want the band to be about all three of us. I had this like, super cool dream of us being famous stars and having dozens of platinum albums with all our music."

When Liv scoffed at sharing the book with anyone, Roxie huffed. "Liv, you know I love you, but stealing this out of my bag was a d**k move." She took the book back, then lovingly swat Liv on the top of the head with it before using her wand to remove the charm. She looked at her friend, then plopped down to sit across from her. "Liv, if you asked, I would've given you some." She fished in her bag before offering over a sheet music book. All the songs within were significantly more tame than the other book. "I'm going through a thing right now. Here, you can flip through these and not have to feel any sort of way." She snorted, setting down her guitar case and pulling out her baby pink acoustic.

As she was double checking her tuning, Roxie's green eyes looked up as Liv commented on her being embarrassed. She also said she wanted to add in Roxie's music and make it more of a collaboration. "It'd be awesome to go platinum, but I'm not expecting it to happen right away. Besides, we'd have to wait on Jo to graduate or only play over school breaks at first anyway. And we can play some of my music. Just not... that music. That wasn't supposed to be seen by anyone other than me." Roxie clicked her tongue, then flipped open the book she'd handed to Liv and started strumming one of the songs there.

Liv winced when Roxie thwacked her with the book, then made a face when the older teen insinuated that Liv could have just asked her to see the lyric book. "I did ask you and you said no. That's what sparked my curiosity, you numpty." She stuck her tongue out at her friend, then smirked and accepted the proffered book to glance through. "We're all going through a thing, mate. I'm still wondering if all boys are the same as Xander... Thinking I might have another go at Bee... That boy could have it whenever." Liv giggled, remembering the one awkward date they went on last year. This time... it'd be less awkward and more snogging though, that was a definite. "Oh, so I had another reason for dragging you up here. Mum is going to buy me concert tickets for my birthday. There's a show in London over Christmas break. Wanna be my plus one?" Her birthday was actually in a week and her mother had sent a letter asking Olivia what she wanted for her birthday. Naturally Liv had wanted something expensive, so Liz countered with concert tickets and sent a detailed list of shows she thought Liv would be interested in... Surprisingly her mom had been pretty right actually. Liv had asked if she could bring Roxie and her mother had been more than happy to oblige.

After whacking Liv with her notebook, the younger girl said she had asked, but had gotten declined. "Well. Either way, don't rummage through my things, you pest." She grinned over, making a face with her nose crumpled toward the brunette. She sat down and provided another book for Liv to peruse, one which already had a more "professional" copy. These ones were more notes than it was true sheet music. The blonde looked up as Liv said everyone was going through a thing, then noted she was wondering if all boys were like... him. Roxie was halfway through a dramatic eye roll when she froze. Apparently Liv was lusting after someone in specific.

"Bee?? Like... Bieito Escoffier?? That Bee? Didn't you guys have a super awkward date, then you broke it off? What's so special about him now?" Was he super attractive or was Liv seriously in need of any boyfriend? The world may never know. Roxie had a girlfriend... sorta. Moreso a girl that met up with her in broom closets for snog sessions.... but still! Maybe Liv could offer insight on the matter.

But then she dropped the apparent reason she'd actually summoned her to the wing. She was getting concert tickets? That was aces! "That sounds awesome, Liv. As long as we don't have to be sneaky this time. I swear, your sneaking is going to give me an aneurysm some day." She laughed, strumming the start to one of Liv's songs on her strings. If they were going to a concert, Roxie would get the dates soon enough to make sure Finley and Chadwick didn't casually ask her to babysit that day. There were so many other choices anyway!

When questioned about why Liv was thinking about taking a swing at Bieito again, she shrugged and said, "Well, yeah our date was awkward... but like... that was cause I was trying to go for a relationship. I'm thinking about just like... pushing him into a closet and snogging. And other things." She winked and pantomimed thrusting her hips, knowing that she'd get her message across, especially with some of the lyrics Roxie had written in her book. Then she shrugged again, adding, "I just want someone to hook up with who will actually... ya know... get me there. Someone who isn't the shower head at home." Olivia laughed at her own comment, then let out a sad sigh. In response to Roxie's question about sneaking out, she shook her head, remembering the events that ultimately led to her parents' divorce and her dad's arrest. "Yeah, no, not this time. Mum is gonna come with us to the concert and it's all above board. She asked if I wanted to go to a concert this winter break cause she didn't want several thousand quid on the guitar I wanted. Her counter offer was the show and I do love shows. She's gonna bring me, you, and my pal Bennie so you'll finally get to meet her." Thankfully Benson had dropped off a letter to her place for her mum to send her saying she wasn't mad at Liv anymore for sleeping with her brother. When they saw each other again, she'd apologize in person again regardless... But it was weird to be introducing her Muggle best friend to her magical one. Liv really hoped they liked each other.

Isolde 'Izzy' Crowe

The East Wing Hall on the sixth floor was large and mostly forgotten, but tonight it felt almost cosy. A roaring fire crackled in the huge central fireplace, casting flickering golden light across the stone walls and the suits of armour that stood silent guard in the corners. Portraits murmured among themselves, and the air was pleasantly warm.

Izzy claimed one of the big armchairs nearest the fire. She was wrapped in a large, discarded stadium blanket she’d found weeks ago, washed thoroughly by hand, and claimed as her own. On one corner she’d drawn a big, bold raven in silver paint — the same symbol she’d painted on her jumper. It made it obvious who the blanket belonged to now.

She sat with her legs tucked up, the oversized boy’s black jumper (raven painted on the front) loose over her white school blouse and midi-length pleated grey skirt. Her supper — a chicken and leek pie she’d made herself in the Student Kitchens — sat on the low table beside her.

The hall was blissfully quiet. No excited Christmas chatter echoing from the corridors, no shrieks of “I’m going to the Alps!” or “My aunt’s taking us to the Maldives!” drifting from the corridors. Just the gentle crackle of the fire and the occasional soft murmur from a portrait.

Izzy took a slow bite of her pie. ‘Better than anything the Hendersons ever managed,’ she thought. ‘Proper flaky pastry. Rey’d be chuffed.’ Already she’d learned much from being in Rey’s Culinary Club, adding more than grilled cheese and what simple things she learned fending for herself with the Hendersons.

She swallowed and stared into the dancing flames, the familiar ache settling in her chest. ‘Mum always made Christmas special, even when we hadn’t got much. Roast dinner, little presents in newspaper, singing carols while she cooked … made the flat feel like a proper palace. Magic, it was, proper Christmas magic.’

Her fingers found the broken locket in her jumper pocket. She pulled it out, turning it over. ‘Cici’s invited me for Christmas … I should be excited, but Christmas never really works out for me, does it? Still … if we go to church I want to look posh. Mum would want that. I’ve got to fix this thing myself. Prove I can take care of it. Prove I’m getting better at this magic lark.’

She’d been practising hard — just like Cici had told her. Working her ‘magic muscles.’ Her Charms were noticeably stronger now. ‘Right then. One more go. If I can’t do it, I’ll ask Rey. She’s probably drowning in NEWT revision, but she’d help if I asked.’

Izzy set her pie aside, placed the locket on the low table, and drew her wand. “Reparo.” Nothing. She frowned. “Reparo.” The chain gave the faintest twitch and went still again.

Another bite of pie, another try. Still nothing useful. On the fourth attempt the links lifted a little before dropping. ‘Getting somewhere, she told herself. ‘Don’t give up now, Crowe.”

On the fifth try she poured everything she had into the spell. “Reparo!” The magic surged violently — too wild, too raw. Instead of fixing the locket, the entire force of the spell rebounded straight back at her. A blinding flash of silver light erupted from her wand. A concussive wave of raw magical energy slammed into her chest like a Bludger. The force lifted her clean out of the armchair and hurled her backward. She hit the stone floor hard, the breath driven from her lungs in a painful whoosh.

Pain exploded through her ribs and left shoulder. It felt like someone had taken a sledgehammer to her side. Her back and hips throbbed where she’d landed. Her wand flew from her fingers and clattered across the floor. The backlash left a sharp, ringing pressure in her ears and a burning ache deep in her chest, as though the magic had tried to claw its way back inside her.

Izzy lay there for several long seconds, dazed and winded, gasping through gritted teeth. “Bloody hell … that was proper dramatic. Stupid, stupid girl. Feels like I’ve been run over by the Hogwarts Express.” She pushed herself up onto her elbows with a sharp hiss of pain, biting her lip hard to keep from crying out. Her left side burned with every breath. Her shoulder felt bruised and hot, and there was a deep, throbbing ache along her ribs that made her wince every time she moved. She could already feel the bruises forming.

Don’t be a crybaby, Crowe. Don’t go running to the hospital wing looking like you can’t handle a bit of backlash. You’re tougher than that. Just … get up.” She glanced at the locket. Still broken, but no worse for what it had seen already.

Right. One more try; then I’ll find Rey if it’s still buggered. Just one more.” Izzy dragged herself back into the armchair, every movement sending fresh sparks of pain through her side. She retrieved her wand with trembling fingers and drew in a deep, shuddering breath. She focused every scrap of determination she had — all the hours of practice, all the quiet hope, all the love she still carried for her mum.

She pointed her wand at the locket. “Reparo.” This time the magic answered cleanly. The broken ends of the chain lifted and met with a soft metallic click. The links knitted themselves back together, smooth and whole. The delicate hinge realigned with a faint shimmer of silver light. The locket sat on the table looking almost new — the chain intact, the hinge repaired, only faint scuffs remaining, and a bit of polish and effort could fix that in a trice.

Izzy stared at it, eyes wide, and she let out a shaky, triumphant little laugh that turned into a wince as her ribs protested. “I did it,” she whispered to the empty hall, voice thick. “Mum … I fixed it. Proper fixed it. See? I’m getting better. I can take care of your things. I’m not completely worthless.”

She carefully picked up the locket, cradling it in her palm for a moment before slipping the chain over her head. The repaired silver settled warmly against her skin, the weight familiar and comforting. She could feel the gentle warmth of the metal against her collarbone — a small, steady reminder that she’d succeeded.

Despite the deep ache in her side and shoulder, Izzy sat up straighter in the armchair, masking the discomfort as best she could. She pulled her raven blanket tighter around herself and took another small bite of her pie, chewing slowly while her fingers traced the now-whole chain at her throat.

It’s done. I did it myself. Christmas might actually be alright this year … even if it hurts like buggery right now.’ She smiled — small, tired, but real — and leaned back into the warmth of the fire and her blanket, the silver raven on the fabric catching the flickering light.

Adelia was wandering around the school today, exploring places she hadn't searched before. She was pretty sure she was in the east half of the school, but beyond that, it was a mystery. She twirled around, letting her skirt flare and sparkle in the lights of the hallway. She was humming along to the song in her head, not terribly focused on the world around her. Her long hair swished behind her like a cloak, nearly reaching the floor as she moved. The girl spent a few minutes talking with one of the paintings before walking around again.

While she was wandering, Adelia noticed one of the other first years there, wrapped up in a blanket. "Oh, good day to you! Your name is Isolde, correct?" She tilted her head, a little grin on her face. She was somewhere in the midst of a daydream, but she so often was. It was really hard to live in the moment when one was so often summoned to the future, after all. "I sense both a great sadness and a great joy in your aura. Would you like to talk with me about it? I am glad to listen if you need a friend." The girl brushed a long strand of hair out from her face, her soft smile never wavering.

She was pretty sure her Charms teacher would be proper chuffed seeing the results of her work. ‘Not many First Years are powerin’ through Third Year spells,” she said with a soft chuckle. “Not unless yer like bleedin’ ‘ermione Granger. What I wouldn’t give to be as clever as that one. Could do no wrong .. jus’ ask the history books.” Her body hurt in more places than she cared to guess, but that was okay; accomplishments worth calling such came at a cost.

The raven-haired First Year thought about what happened, how her locket was broken. ‘Sorry, Mum didn’t mean for them to touch your things; guess maybe I don’t deserve them. Reckon the men in the black coats saw to them afterwards. What I need is a large dog, somebody loyal to protect me, that way next time …

Her thoughts trailed off, knowing in her heart that there likely wouldn’t be a next time. She was reaching that age when families stopped looking at you. Too old, not cute enough, somebody else’s broken doll. “The Hendersons may have been a bunch of money-grifting meth-heads, but at least it was a home. Now …” She shook her head, and told herself, “No cryin’ now, you muppet. Be thankful for what you have and look at ye done. A nice dinner an’ the locket’s mended. Better than what you would have had.”

Just as she was deciding that she should have something proper sweet to go with her chicken and leek pie and the hank of brown bread she’d scored from the kitchens, Izzy became aware of somebody else being in the area, and that was because they were sharing a conversation with one of the paintings. They were almost like opposites, as the other girl had long white hair and wearing bright sparkling clothes that all fit and looked as though they were bought or even … made especially for her. Izzy could scarcely imagine having that herself.

Oi, nae need te be all proper an’ that,” she said, surprised to be referenced by her Christian name. “Nobody still breathin’ calls me anything but Izzy. Mum did, but only if’n I were in Dutch with her. An’ you?” Izzy was certain she was in her classes; there weren’t that many girls with white hair, even at a place like Hogwarts. She definitely looked like one of those well-heeled witches from a proper family.

Hang on, I have an aura?” she asked curiously. “Does everyone have an aura? Do you have to be special to have one?” Izzy never saw herself as being all that, and if she was special, it was … well, never mind all that. Deciding the other girl didn’t need to get chapter and verse, she added, “Like everyone else, I suppose. Getting on Christmas, you see, an’ … I miss Mum, hearing her sing carols an’ all that. She’s all I got … an’, well … nothin’ fer it now. Now, what’s good is I got her locket mended after those mean boys broke it on my birthday. Fixed it right an' proper, like a real witch. Took me learnin’ a Third Year spell an’ all, but I’m pretty proper chuffed about it.”

"The horses on the cobbled stones go by, think I'll get one, one fine day
And ride into the countryside and very far away
But now as the daylight disappears, I best find a place to sleep
Think I'll slip into the bell tower, In the church just down the street

Maybe I can find a place I can call my home
Maybe I can find a home I can call my own"

Adelia was curious why Isolde was here, but in the same breath, she was curious why she herself was here. Perhaps it was fated for the two of them to meet here? She wasn't quite good enough to be able to foretell the future on command, but sometimes these interesting moments summoned those tidbits of times yet to come. She was a little confused when Isolde told her there was no need to be so proper, before she explained that she preferred to be called Izzy. Ah, that made sense! "Do forgive me, I'd only heard your name in role. Izzy does suit you quite well." Adelia nodded, her smile never wavering.

"My name is Adelia Awbrey. I'm also a first year, but I'm in House Ravenclaw." She brushed a hand through her hair, tucking a long lock back behind her ear. Adelia looked a bit thoughtful when Izzy asked her about auras. She seemed eager to know if it was something special to have one. With a contented sigh, Adelia offered some information. "Everyone has an aura, though yours really is something unique. It shows that you're a soul with so very much to share. Love, loyalty, and light... but there's a worry there too. One saying you're worried about not having that love returned." She nodded, hoping that her words would help. "Most people... their auras are just dim, but yours is quite bright!"

She listened as Izzy spoke about getting ready for Christmas, but being sad in the same breath about missing her mother. Apparently they'd sung carols together, but now they couldn't. Izzy also said she'd mended her mother's locket after it was broken by some bullies. "A third year spell? That's quite impressive, Izzy! I've not gone beyond a second year spell, but my Grandmother taught it to me, so it's not quite the...." she trailed off, her golden eyes going wide.

It always felt weird to have the future spoken through her, but it was, at least, somewhat normal. She spoke aloud, though the voice was not quite her own. Her eyes seemed to glow and she reached out, hands clutching Izzy at her shoulders. Grandmother said it helped to have an anchor, and hopefully Izzy wouldn't mind.

"A child lost in mourning, her heart broken twice,
New souls shall find her, neither friend nor foe
Family shall claim her, led in heart by a guide,
Hand in hand, new love shall provide."

As her thoughts returned to her, the girl wobbling a bit. She stumbled back a step, her hands moving to clutch at her temples. She groaned in pain as her eyes squeezed closed for a second. "Urgh... I'm sorry... I...." she stumbled over her words before hesitantly opening her eyes. Oh, this is not where she'd remembered being. Usually she was in the safety of Grandmother's Prophecy Room, but this was a hallway... oh right, she was at school. Blinking a few times, Izzy came back into focus and Adelia offered a nervous look. The last time she'd foretold a prophecy in front of those not capable of The Sight, they'd teased her, just as Grandmother had said would happen. But hopefully Izzy would be a kinder soul?
