Arell nodded as he handed over the cold towel. "Thanks fer da information, che'. Jes' siddown an' relax. Da cold'll keep da pain off fer a while, but I'd still seek out medical attention." he said with a smile and headed off into the conference room, just walking past the table until he got to the lounge door. As much as he was relieved the problem was over, he still kept going at a cautious gait, JUST to ensure that there wasn't any booby traps waiting for him as well.

The costumed woman groaned again and turned to lay back down on the floor. This... this was going to hurt after a bit. Hopefully she'd be able to get a ride home or... get a free room here for the night or something.

Wonderful... going to have a swollen and black and blue face. Have to claim that she was mugged or... walked into a pole and then fell down a flight of steps or something. And before her next job too. Perfect... just perfect...

==================

Inside the room, it was as empty as it appeared to be from the doorway. But venturing further into the room revealed a dim light that flooded out from under the small crack under the door to the far left of the room. No traps to find as of yet. But it was anyone's guess what was on the other side of the door, or what would even happen once the door was opened.

Arell smirked as he walked in and found the door to the left. Careful to grab the door, the big Cajun opened it slowly. Wanting to ensure that he made the least bit of noise . . . despite walking away from all hell breaking loose in the hallway. He had half a mind to take the poor girl to the doctors or back home, but he realized just how much time the fight gave him. He had to be in that room in thirty seconds!

If she tricked me . . . he thought as the door opened and he found . . . .

...A woman wearing a dark red suit sitting in a large chair in the far corner of the room. Her blonde hair was pulled back in a tight bun, and a pair of dark sun glasses hid a faded scar that ran across her right eye. She gave Arell a small smirk as the door opened, a glass of red wine gently swishing around in her hand. "Well... congratulations. You're the first offer we've called for that's managed to get inside this room. Usually our little guard outside manages to scare them off or hang them from the roof." the woman said as she stood from the chair. She would allow Arell to approach her. It was likely that his nerves were still strung from the fight, so she didn't want to set anything off.

"Since you seem to have easily gotten into the room, I'd say you've incapacitated her or killed her. Only reason she'd let you get in here with the price we're paying her to keep people out."

Arell took off his hat and nodded. "Wit' all due respect, ma'am. I think I done laid it on a little too hard on 'er. I think she might need some medical attention somethin' powerful." he said, legitimately concerned for how badly he socked it to the lady outside . . . before shaking it off.

"Uhh, anyways, what's da big security thang about? Ain't 'xactly protocol fo' me t' be fightin' my way INTO a job. De brawl us'ally starts AFTER dat." he said as he put his hat on a chair as he waited for a response.

"Think of it as a little test. With the job we have in mind, we need someone who can handle a more... unusual means of security that needs to be gotten past. Our hired costume outside was tasked with keeping people out of this room, and you're the only one who's gotten inside." the woman replied.

"From what we understand, you'll have the traditional means of security and hired guards. And... we're unclear of just what sort of added security they've put into place, but we know that it works on stealth, and is non-leathal. For whatever reason, the man we need you to 'aquire' a relic from would rather see potential thieves sued to their last penny and rot behind jail rather than a quick and clean kill."

Arell nodded. "Yeesh . . . reminds me a' holdin' up Clearwater bank back in Breaux Bridge." he said, rolling his eyes. Yup . . . almost EXACTLY like the Clearwater Bank job. Or was it the other one? Well, he wasn't exactly sure. He did know however, that something could be up.

"A'right. Tell me mo' about dis relic . . . ain't ev'ah day someone asks me t' go all 'Indiana Jones' on a caper like dis." he drawled.

The woman smiled lightly, then leaned forward as she pulled a small pamphlet out from behind her back. "The relic is known as the Sword of Redwater Valley. Named so due to the translated text carved into the blade. It's said to be a blade used in an ancient war for a civilization that was wiped off the face of the earth. The blade has.... great interest to my employer. Our employer." she began, handing the pamphlet to Arell.

The paper was from local museum. Announcing the soon to be arriving ancient blade that had finally been donated to the museum. The blade was rather old and outdated... it certainly looked like an ancient sword. One that would break if you picked it up the wrong way. Under the rust though... the blade shined like new under the light of the photography flash.

Arell flipped through the pamphlet, looking at the sword and listening to the woman talking about it and about their employer . . . THEIR employer wanted this?

It looked rusted, but then he remembered something . . . that sword was also worth a good penny. Rumored to have been used by an ancient king, Arell scratched his head. "Looks a'right. So how much is in dis fer me? Or does our employah think I'm a volunteer?" he asked. A little annoyed about things.

The woman gave him a small grin. "Oh no, he doesn't expect you to volunteer for this. In fact, he has a nice little thank you gift waiting for you at the entry way just for showing up today." she replied, then leaned back in the chair. "What's in it for you"... will most likely be a bigger paycheck then you've ever received in your life. My employer well has the means to make this little job worth your while and then some." she replied.

...rather vague answer. She couldn't give an exact amount until this man actually brought the sword back. But if he knew who their employer was, it wasn't hard to imagine just how much his paycheck might be.

Arell chuckled as he heard the response. Her vague answer set off the big Cajun's bull-s**t detector right quick. "Riiiiiight, an' 'de check's in da mail', 'you may a' already won t'ree bill'on dollars', 'got WMDs in Iraq' an' 'artificial swee'ners are good fer ya.' Pardon m' cynical att'tude on dis, ma'am but I've heard just 'bout ev'ry excuse in de book dat y'all might not 'fford dis." Arell drawled as he pulled out some rolling paper and a pouch of tobacco. Hell, there was already a ten billion dollar bounty TOTAL for some of the bastards in Gotham alone, and someone wanted him to go snag a sword!

"Uh, conf'dentially, who IS dis boss a' yers anyhow?" he asked as he started to roll a smoke.

The woman grinned lightly. "Your employer is the original owner of the sword that was... stolen while he was away from one of his many homes. I'm not sure if the name "Vandal Savage" will ring any bells for you or not. He owns this hotel, as well as several others like it all over this side of the country. Not including all of the other businesses he owns..."

VANDAL SAVAGE?!? Arell's eyes almost bugged out from their sockets! That can't be! At least fourteen different attempts from my old company couldn't even bring his a** down!!! he thought. He remembered a lot of things. Panama, the incident in Borneo . . . got close SIX TIMES in Baghdad city alone. Arell and his boys in the Rat Patrol ambushed his little ring over there with all but calling an air strike and Savage STILL slipped through the noose. UNDER ARTILLERY FIRE!

Matter of fact, he saw that many people had put out TEN BILLION DOLLARS for one captured Vandal or evidence that someone (or something) FINALLY put down that elusive b*****d. This was finally what Arell needed. The break he was looking for!

. . . the paycheck to end all paychecks . . . and two were just waiting for him!

"Ma'am, I think ya done gotcherself a deal." Arell said, sticking out his hand.

The woman chuckled lightly to herself at Arell's reaction. "I take it you recognize the name..." she said with a grin. Then she stood and moved towards Arell to take his hand to shake. "In that case, you will find all the information you need for the task at hand in the briefcase next to the door on your way out. It also contains a disposable cell phone and a nice little bonus for simply showing up and taking up the offer."

Arell nodded as he shook her hand. "We've met a few times." he drawled as he stepped back after letting go. His shake was firm, his hands calloused. This was not someone who dealt with neckties, contracts and deals. This was a man of action. He nodded. "Thank y' ma'am. 'Sure ya it'll be worth it." he said as he started to head out of the room, careful to remember to pick up the briefcase.

"It's all dere, right? Don't have t' fight ANOTHER schmuk to get outta heah, do I?" he asked.
