I still want to lose 60 more pounds by July 30th (which is when I'll be leaving for Japan if I make it into the program), so four pounds is kind of slow for me. Sadly, I made a little piggy of myself tonight with all of the New Year's goodies and candies. I had to sample every single desert and go back for seconds. sweatdrop

Basically, I'm eating 3/4 to 1 cup of food (depending on nutritional value) every 2 1/2 hours. I'm trying to make healthier choices, but I don't always succeed. I let myself splurge from time to time, so I'm not too terribly strict. It's all about not letting your blood sugar spike, so sweets are dangerous with this kind of thing. If you want sweets, go ahead and eat them. Just remember to stay within a very strict moderation. Do you know about those little Hershey's Bliss chocolates? If you want something sweet, eat one of those slowly, and stop. Other small candies are great. If it's a cobbler, get a spoonful of it, and eat it every slowly, and stop. You're still getting the yummy goodness, but in much smaller portions. I kind of blew it on the sweets tonight, but I'll try to be good to make up for it. Ummm.... I'm drinking a lot of unsweetened tea and taking daily vitamins also. Beware the sweet drinks! Those things are dangerous to this type of thing. Juice is also dangerous. If you want juice, dilute it with water so you can keep your blood sugar from spiking too much. It's almost a diabetic type diet, but it works! Let me know if it works for you! Snacking is good for this kind of thing! Just remember to keep it in moderation. biggrin

    Oh, I see. ^^
Let me help, then. *cracks whip* Get back on that, you!

I was wondering about the drinks. I love my Coke, it's so bad!
I've given up coffee though, so that's a start.
Starting out with high-calorie coffee with sugar and creamer every morning is sure to throw me off for the rest of the day.
I started drinking it about four months ago to keep awake in the daytime, since you-know-who doesn't sleep.
But I think I got addicted. xD

The good news is that you can still have your coffee! I usually drink it black (personal preference), but you can still do things to it that won't hurt you at all. You can put nonfat milk and a little honey in it if you don't like it black. I also found out that cinnamon is amazing in coffee. heart I've been drinking coffee like a fiend since starting this thing, and it hasn't hurt my weight loss a bit, so drink up! biggrin

Really? Ah, don't tell me that!
I don't need to stay addicted to it. I think it gave me headaches when I didn't drink it. :/
But tea will work just as well, and actually, it's really good for you.

My wish is for good health for my cats and homes for the cat orphans at the sanctuary I volunteer with.

I pick number 5.

A wonderful wish!! biggrin We have three rescue kitties and we always wish for happy homes for all kitties!

Those types of groups really can only keep going if people keep adopting the cats. Since this group is the only real no kill group that really does care about the welfare of the cats in my immediate area, it will be very horrible if they go out of business.

Every other place that takes in cat orphans here have a stipulation where the cat must be immediately adoptable, including the other "no kill" groups. This means that if the cat is deemed to be not immediately adoptable, the kitty is put to death.

That's terrible! sad I used to volunteer at the local humane society when I was in middle school, socializing the cats. (I needed the community service hours. Everyone was required to do a certain number in my school system.) I thought it was wonderful until I realized just how many cats they were putting down. When I found out that a cat was scheduled to be put down, I would start begging everyone I knew to adopt the kitty. It was so hard on my nerves and emotions that I quit volunteering there. I also found out some other disturbing things before I quit such as the fact that they put down pregnant animals immediately. I wish people would just get their pets fixed before all of these sad stays end up in places like that. sad

    They kill the pregnant cats?
    How is that humane? emo

My mom originally suggested that I volunteer with either the SPCA or the local county shelter as they need volunteers to. However the all of one time I was her at the county shelter during one of its charity events, about half the cats there were black and white tuxedo cats. Those are my favorite cats even though they carry the black cat stigma to some degree. [Statistically black cats are the least popular type of cat followed by all coat patterns of black & white cats.] So I really couldn't take seeing all those black and white cats at what is essentially a concentration camp where healthy animals get put to death for no reason other than that they are not getting adopted fast enough.

I love tea too. whee I've been brewing loose leaf teas recently. Oolong tea is supposed to be great for your metabolism, but it's more expensive than the green teas.

I can't imagine how anyone could kill a kitty. There needs to be some type of kitty refuge where abandoned kitties can live happily.

There really needs to be one! Oh and when I was checking around at different places just for a what if scenario where the place I volunteer with went out of business and I got killed in a car accident thus leaving my two cats as orphans....

One of my cats is diabetic and while the SPCA would love to get the portion of my estate that would go along with my diabetic cat, they gave me the very strong impression that they would not even try to find her a new home and would just have her murdered for being a grumpy old diabetic cat.

That's terrible. sad Don't you have any cat loving friends or relatives who would take your cats in case of an accident? I've already made my parents promise me that they would take care of my kitty if anything ever happens to me. She's an older cat, and I don't think her chances would be that great if she were to be taken to a humane society. She also hates kids, and that wouldn't win her any points either. sweatdrop Fortunately, everyone in my family (except for my grandmother) loves my kitty.

It was really haunting to me, reading G-Fire's comment about drowning kittens. I would love to see a place where clowders of cats could roam free, and be loved, and hopefully adopted someday. I haven't met a kitty yet that I didn't love at first sight, and I can't stand the thought of homeless kitties being killed. sad

On a happier note, it's now time to choose our winners! Since no one chose #10, I'll just generate our winners from 1 through 9. If I get 2 or a repeat, I'll roll again. Whoever wins first will get first pick, 2nd will get 2nd pick, and 3rd will get last pick. Everyone gets the love and warm wishes of their fellow guildies. heart So, let's start this thing off with a bang!

PostPosted: Sun Jan 01, 2012 9:17 pm

And the winners are....

1st - GalateasFire
2nd - Sachie Whitby
3rd - little Mira Inazuma

Congratulations! Post which prize you would like in this thread, and I will send them out as soon as I get everyone's choices. G-Fire gets to pick first since she won first, Sachie goes 2nd, and Ina goes 3rd. If anyone doesn't care which item they get, they may opt to let someone go in front of them. It doesn't matter to me. Just make sure you let me know what you're doing so I won't send the wrong gifts. xd
