CHASE AWAY MY HARMONY
Dust's Name: Arietta (Aria for Short)
Gender: Female
Basic Appearance: The body of a temptress with the eyes of a child. Long flowing hair that appears wind blown, curves in the right places and clothing that seems to almost fall off her body leaves a very confused look on Aria’s face. Blues, greens, and whites (sea colors accented with gold). Possibly with more of the mermaid theme than a bird siren. (For they were considered mermaids in later stories)
Powers:
Healing Song: Singing a few soft notes allows her to heal some physical wounds others have sustained.
Moonlight Melody: A special song that is sung to calm the atmosphere when there is tension. It brings a rather relaxing feeling to all who hear.
Keywords: Innocent, Soft Spoken, Selfless, Thin-Skinned
Personality: Aria is a rarity among Siren personalities. She is more likely to hide from a man than lure him towards her. Not to mention death…no she would rather get help to save them.

As a being, she is a sweet child looking only to make people happy. Harsh words bring tears to her eyes quicker than one could blink. She lacks the ability to understand critics or how the world can be a cruel place. In her eyes, there is always a peaceful answer to every problem.

Aria is one that is always willing to go out on a limb for someone. A smile to brighten then day or help with work. All they have to do is ask. She won’t say no unless her guardian is standing over her with a stern eye.
How is the bottle found?
The dive that day was just like any other. Set up the gear. Try not to drop the tank on your foot. Don’t hit the propeller. Same checklist as every other dive Sera had made. The only thing that ever changed was the location…and that made all the difference in the world.

“See you down there Dad.” She called out before letting herself fall backwards off the side of the boat.

As the bubbles cleared and Sera regained her vision, it was all she could do to keep the regulator from falling out of her mouth. They had picked a perfect day to go diving. The water was warm and clear. The fish seemed active. And the coral! Oh the coral was breath taking.

But there was something else that Sera had not expected to see. Off the port side of the boat, a large group of very colorful fish seemed to be gathering. Something was peaking their interest but it didn’t seem to be food. Not a single one of those fish had anything related to teeth.

The splash as her father joined her under the waves caused Sera’s head to turn. Once they made sure each other was okay, she pointed the way towards the grouping.

Moments later, and after the fish had left fearing the giant flesh monsters, Sera and her father were floating above a small hole in the coral. Below appeared to be nothing more than sand but around them was something else.

A song.

Both humans knew that water magnified sound and allowed it to travel farther. Thus neither could point out where it was coming. Most likely they never would have known had her father’s flipper not stirred up the opening revealing a small glass bottle.

In her mind Sera had to wonder why people would litter. In her hand though, the glass seemed to fit nicely. Still, for the dive, she placed it in her BC pocket and followed after her father.

“What did you think?” Her father asked as they finally climbed back into the boat.

“It’s more beautiful than I could have believed. Though that sound was strange…” Sera noted as she slipped off the vest to hear a light tapping noise. Reaching into the vest, she pulled out the bottle and smiled. For litter, it was beautiful.

“It’s one of the mysteries of the deep my daughter.” Her father smiled as he fired up the engine. “One we may never know…”

Or one we might… Sera thought as she placed the glass to her ear and heard the same melody.

CHASE AWAY MY HARMONY
Dust's Name: Nereus
Gender: Male
Basic Appearance: Large, large wings, with a harp or other small, stringed instrument under his arm, perhaps? Long red hair, tied back loosely anywhere from his midback to his hips, otherwise going everywhere. A sad look in his eyes, draped modestly. A face with only some girlish aspects, like maybe lush lips and big eyes in a fuller jaw and prominent cheekbones; he doesn't have to necessarily be attractive.

Powers:
Singing - his singing is melodic and speaks directly to the soul of the listener. His songs cannot impart his own desires to others and, in fact, does nothing that he can control. It echoes deep in the nature of human beings, the lethargic nature and desire to be lazy and brings it out. It can make people laze around listening to his song, too rapt to eat or move, or simply lull them to a deep sleep. If his song is combatted successfully, it takes a lot out of him.

Screaming - the total opposite of his singing, this is a painful power that results in him screeching as loud, hard, and high as he can. It's a high pitched noise approaching the upper limits of human hearing and causes ringing and possibly tears in the listener's eyes. It affects everyone around him, friend and foe, and makes his voice hoarse and hard to use.

Keywords: Melancholy, complacent, lethargic, quiet.
Personality: Nereus often does nothing; he has not the energy to fix it as he cares not - it is as it is, no more and no less. He's rather infuriating in that respect, as almost nothing can entice him to move or stand up against something; his quiet nature wins out more than anything else - he takes both compliment and punishment stolidly, his face serious. The only thing that seems to bring him any joy at all is singing - but even though his lips might twitch up into the rare but beautiful smile and his eyes might light, the song itself is not joyful. It is lazy and slow, as the man himself, hesitant.

He enjoys being around others, though, on the event that they are willing to come to sit with him or that Candace drags him out (usually by his ear); he will sit quietly around them but hearing voices other than his own create some peace in his strange little heart - he is more soothed, calmer than usual, whenever someone he trusts is near him. This is hard for him to do, however, as he can hardly ever be arsed to get up and make the effort to see others. If it weren't for the fact that Nereus' presence is often soothing in how lazy and quiet he is, how unchanging and constant, his lethargy would most likely be irritating; he cannot be bothered to get up and see the people he considers "friend" unless he fears something of the worst nature has occurred.

When left to his own devices, Nereus' features often contort into a sort of sad, longing look as though the thing he wants most was taken from him - if he's interrupted when he's fallen into that sort of a mood, he's quite morose and it's deathly hard to keep his attention. If he's able to be questioned, he doesn't give very much info about it - only that he thought of a place and it felt like he belonged there but couldn't be there. After one of these episodes, Nereus is known to exert the effort - only these few times - to visit his friends, wanting to be surrounded by people who wanted and knew him.

How is the bottle found? Candace found she was often depressed; it would sometimes weigh heavily on her mind, her condition, her barrenness, and while she tried to be happy always, tried to instead love those around her and care for them as though they were her own children, but it wasn't the same. It couldn't be the same and it would never be the same - some days, her "bad days", she would dwell on this constantly and be in no state to see anyone. Instead, she went to Siren Beach - it was a peaceful place to her, a place that made her feel dreadfully insignificant and therefore stupid for the smallness of her problems when compared to the noise and size of the beach and its ocean. It didn't do a lot - didn't fix her right up, for sure - but it helped to ease the pain, the whispers of the far bigger ocean whispering softly in her ear.

That day was one such day. She was traversing up and down the beach, her feet bare in the sand, occasionally squishing into the sand and squirming them in it. Her toes, on one occasion, sunk into the sand - but her toenails clinked on something glassy; normally, she would've paid it no mind, but it seemed odd, something so big buried in the sand. She kneeled and dug it out, only to find a small bottle buried under her foot. It had been upside down and while she grabbed it she'd suddenly felt like sleeping more, she got the feeling that being upside down had just been accepted - the same for being buried under sand, being scuttled over by crabs. She was glad she had not broken the curious little bottle that made her feel strange things; she tucked it against her chest and, fighting against the lethargy she suddenly felt tooth and nail, returned home with a strange new purpose.

SAY HELLO TO YOUR LION'S HEART
Dust's Name: Lottie
Gender: Female
Basic Appearance: Hair from strawberry blonde to a reddish brown, short, thick, and wavy or tousled. Eyes light brown. Short and robust. Smiley. Muted and neutral-toned colours. Very pretty and girly, but with a hint brawling boyishness to her.
Powers:
1. The one thing Lottie has is an indefatigable fighting spirit. Really. Her power is just that she never tires. However longs she's fighting, playing, or running for, she is always up for more. Another way to put it is: she is impervious to fatigue.
2+ . Other than that, Lottie is sturdy and simple, I'm thinking her powers should be the same. Something like, super strength, super speed, or quick healing would be good. Very physical, no magic or trickery.
Keywords: Gallant, Warm, Tenacious, Foolhardy
Personality: Lottie is the sort of person to charge at things head-first. It's not that she isn't bright, she is, she just doesn't think things through before she acts. She is driven primarily by her emotions; she acts almost entirely on instinct. It often gets her into trouble, but she takes the consequences bravely. She never hesitates, is rarely frightened, and doesn't look back in regret. At least she'll never have to worry about missing opportunities; when she fails, it's not for lack of trying!

She often speaks without thinking and always tells the truth. She's slow to pick up on the emotions of others so, although usually well-meaning, she often ends up hurting people's feelings through her bluntness. She's a hardy girl herself, and doesn't understand when people get upset by 'the littlest things'. But, while rough with others, she is delicate with her friends and incredibly apologetic when she hurts them. She is more inquisitive about their feelings and she always does her best to protect them.

She has a very strong sense of justice. She believes that honesty and integrity will triumph. She doesn't keep secrets and the one thing she hates is when others ask her to keep one for them. In this way, she also hates gossip, and will stand up for anyone who is being unfairly treated, even if she doesn't like them. She won't tolerate for double standards, she holds herself and her friends to the same principles as anyone else. Otherwise, she is warm and friendly towards everyone she meets. She usually assumes the best in everyone.

How is the bottle found?
Amelia Kite was a quiet and curious young woman. She had studied history in Fallen and, as well as teaching, she now hoped to open a little museum here in Amies. But first she needed something to fill it with. She might have been a top student, but she had little field experience. She was here in Amies with several students of archaeology here to study the ruins of Dragon's Peak. They’d promised that if they found anything of interest, they would let her keep it for her museum.

Unfortunately, they had been searching a good while now without success.
Just as she was wondering if they should call it a day, she saw a glimmer out of the corner of her eye. She held the light up to it.
“Wait. I think I found something.” She announced. She bent down and carefully lifted a bottle from where it lay snug inside the rock. Another researcher glanced over, but he shook his head. It was nothing. A rubbish piece of pottery that was tossed aside and left there by someone before them. Amelia sighed. Of course it was.

Even so, she was in need of a break, so she moved to the side to examine the artifact. Now that she held it away from the glare of the lamplight, she noticed it was glowing. Perhaps it was a lamp of some kind, although she could see no source of fuel. Was it electric? She thought she could see something beneath the glow. She lifted it to examine it closer, but was startled when someone called her name.
“Amelia!”
“Yes! Coming!” She hurried over, but tucked the bottle into her bag. Maybe it wasn’t a rare artifact, but it was still her first ‘discovery’. She wanted to hold onto it.

WE DIDN'T START THE FIRE
Dust's Name: Pele
Gender: Female
Basic Appearance: Petite figure, short hair, flat chest, soft features, so that it is difficult to tell if Pele is a boyish looking girl or an effeminate boy. I imagine her with dark skin and red eyes. Colors would be reds, oranges, golds, but also blacks and greys. Sooty, like she has just risen from the ashes. Often dirty and scruffy looking, but fond of shiny things like jewels and gold.
Powers:
1. Pele has the power to renew an object by burning it. If she can sense a life-force remaining in something, even if it is dying, burning it will give it new life (such as withering flowers beginning to bloom). However, this life may have to start again from new (so a burned flow may become a bud).
2. The phoenix was often considered the protector of birds. If nothing else, Pele seems to have their undying love. Birds flock to her naturally, and spring to protect her when she's in trouble.
3. My other ideas are less interesting, such as imperviousness to burns, creating fire, and changing her body temperature.
Keywords: Impish, Fiery, Playful, Honest
Personality: Pele can get fiercely determined once she has something in her sights. She is very focused on the things she wants and does not like distractions. She has a short temper with everyone (including herself) when it comes to getting in the way of her work. And she is very competitive. She hate -absolutely hates- to lose. She is ambitious and adventurous, but she sometimes shoots too high and fails. Yet despite her incredible self criticism, she has the unique power to 'rise from the ashes' of even the worst situations, pick herself up, and keep on working towards her goal.

She doesn't assume things about other people and hates it when people assume things about her. She doesn't like being lied to either. Because she herself speaks her mind, and yet is in some ways a private person, she assumes that others are the same and won't act to help them unless she is explicitly asked. She may seem uncaring, but to her it is a kind of courtesy. Essentially, if you want to deal with Pele, you must speak your mind to her. She is severely honest and hates it more when someone tells her a sweet lie than a harsh truth, even if it upsets her at the time. Don't feel bad, she will do the same to you.

She can be mean and scrappy when threatened and she goes into defensive mode perhaps a little too quickly. Usually though, Pele is a fun, friendly, flirty girl. She likes to tease both friends and enemies, and loves to play tricks on people. She looks for a simple joys in life. She loves to play. She never spends long worrying about justice or karma or the greater meaning of it all. Instead, she focuses whole heartedly on getting what she wants now.

How is the bottle found? 'Bottle, bottle, who's got the bottle..' Hana muttered to herself as she tossed said bottle up and down in front of her. She had gone along the whole train looking for its owner, but although everyone remembered seeing it, no one could say where it was from or who it belonged to.

She herself had seen it for the first time only yesterday, when she had found herself juggling it, quite unexpectedly. Just when it had entered the act, she didn't know, but she remembered it felt warm to the touch, which surprised her nearly into dropping it. Afterwards, it must have somehow found its way into her things, because the next day she found it mixed in with her equipment and costume.

After walking up and down the aisle twice, she still couldn’t find anyone to claim the bottle. Giving up, she walked back to her seat. The train today was unusually noisy, full as it was, with the troupe circus and street performers of which Hana was a part. She lifted the bottle and gave it another look. There seemed to be something in it: a feather. And anyway, it was quite pretty. She set the bottle down and lay down in her seat to sleep while she looked at it. She’d done her best, but that was that. She supposed the bottle was hers now.

CHASE AWAY MY HARMONY
Dust's Name: Xio
Gender: Male
Basic Appearance: Sharp features. I’d like his hair to be a feathery mix of grays and browns. Eyes light blue or grey. Slim, not muscular. Pretty boy kind of look. Gentlemanly. Always clean and neat. Colors would be greys, browns, and blues.
Powers:
1. The name Siren means to bind. When Xio sings he can lull someone into a trace or freeze them in place. The person will feel as though they are being bound with an invisible rope.
2. He has an aura that draws people to him. At first sight, he might appear friendly, or attractive, or he might look like someone the person knows. Whatever it is, it makes the person want to go towards him. Of course, it wears off as soon as they get close.
3. When Xio hears any kind of music, he can feel the thoughts and emotions of the person playing it at that moment.
4. He can sharpen any object, such as making a rock able to cut glass, or a dull blade sharp, but only for a short period of time.
Keywords: Lyrical, Icy, Gentlemanly, Gifted
Personality: In many of the things he does, Xio is a prodigy. From rhetoric to math, but particularly with music, he expresses himself with creativity, brilliance, and beauty. And he can be a real brat about it too. He believes that a gentleman doesn’t brag so he never goes on about his own abilities, but he belittles the abilities of others. He cannot stand poorly played music, and has little patience for those who are still learning but he knows not to be rude, so when something bothers him he will just put his hands over his ears or walk away. (And no, he’s not exactly subtle about it)

His giftedness leads him to act superior to others, and he often pays for it. Because things usually come naturally to him, he takes hard work for granted, and because of his haughtiness he hates to ask for help. When he doesn’t understand something, he can become obsessed, withdrawing entirely from everything and everyone until he figures it out. Because he judges everyone based on their abilities, he assumes others do the same, so he hates it when there’s something he can’t do. He will admit when he doesn’t know something, but he absolutely hates to be wrong.

He is quiet and not very childish. He prefers older company and doesn't always get along with other children. He loves a good debate and revels in being able to hold his own in an argument, especially against someone he respects. He loves consuming knowledge and reads quite voraciously. He doesn’t mind work if it’s interesting, but he is quickly bored by things he understands and loses patience with them. He is attracted to the arts because, as he says, you can never be perfect at them. You’re always learning.

He is a polite young man, in the strictest sense of the word. He always minds his manners, speaks well, and shows respect to his elders; but he is also bluntly honest and does nothing to hide his feelings about someone. He needs to understand that sometimes the way you say something matters more than the way it is said. But this, to him, is illogical and his empathy for others is not great.

Even Xio has a softer side to him, though. He can be remarkably gentle at the strangest of times and he has a real sweet streak for animals and very small children. He understands his own harshness and works to control it. He is cold to people not out of anger, but as one who is afraid to get too close.

How is the bottle found?
Caspian was a young engineer with a passion for collecting rare instruments. He was the sort who had once dreamed of becoming a musician, but was just too practically minded. Yet, from interesting instruments to original sheet music, his house was nonetheless full of it.

The piano was the newest addition to his collection. It was from The Proserpina, a ship that was mysteriously blown off course ten years ago and crashed into mermaid’s rock. The Captain was a great lover of music, and he required that his favorite piano be carried with them on every journey. While the Captain was tragically lost, the crew, the passengers, and the piano, were all rescued by another ship that was passing by.

The piano was simple and well-worn, but it had a history, and Edward appreciated that more than anything. With eager fingers, he sat down to play, but no music came out. He lifted the top to see what was the matte. Inside, lying on the strings, was a little bottle. How peculiar. Lifting it out, he reached down with his right hand and played a few notes to test the piano, but the bottle hadn’t done it any harm. He wondered if it was from the shipwreck too, or if it had somehow gotten there afterwards.

It seemed important, so he set it on the top of the piano and studied it. He peered into it, but could see nothing of interest. He turned it about in his hand, and then, oddly, he felt compelled to hold it up to his ear. Once he did, he heard what sounded like part of a eerie song. Of course, that was just the ambient noise from the room, reflected and intensified inside the hollow tube. Right? He wasn’t sure. It was the same reason a seashell sounds like the ocean, but this was distinctly more.. melodic.

Bewildered, he put the bottle down. It did occur to him that perhaps he ought to return it to the auctioneer from whom he’d bought the piano, but he was somewhat attached to it now. It was an oddity; and Cas liked oddities. Leaving the piano in his music room, he carried the bottle with him. Wherever it was from, someone had forgotten about it. He was certain he could find a home for it here.

CHASE AWAY MY HARMONY
Dust's Name: Armonia
Gender: Female
Basic Appearance: lightly tan skin. Long wavy sea blue hair, vibrant green eyes, light, airy clothing like so : http://www.marriage-new-york.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/greek-goddess-wedding-dress-8.jpg with a hair clip of feathers. Or perhaps a feather shawl or cloak, painted blue nails and shimmering eye shadow and lipstick. ( shadows and lipstick more for teen stage than child haha)
Powers:
Siren’s Requiem: A song which draws on memories of sadness and loss, making the listener recall the negative state they experienced at the time.

Lover's Lure: A melody sung that encourages the listener to go to what they desire rather than what they are doing in that moment. Could be good or bad, or perhaps drive them into what they are doing further.

Keywords: Lazy, Judgmental, Pessimistic, Perfectionist, Affectionate

Personality: 'Judge not lest ye be judged' is something Armonia does not adhere to in the slightest. She holds people's work and actions to a high standard that is almost unrealistic. While often she is slow in her work or actions, taking time to asses and make decisions after gathering much info, Armonia refuses to settle for anything but her best. Sub par work or half-assed actions that are done by herself drive Armonia up a wall, making her want to take whatever it is that she's done back and start over. Sadly with words and some actions this isn't possible, often causing her to view herself negatively.

Work is... met with mixed feeling from her. She will work, just at a very slow rate. Same goes for decision making. She doesn't like to have to do what is asked of her unless it benefits her in some sense. She thinks others are just as lazy as she is, if not more. Armonia also thinks usually the worst of people even when it might not or flat out isn't true. When shown to be wrong she's hesitant to accept it at face value.

To those who do show they meet her 'standard' or can be trusted and show her the good in things, Armonia cares deeply for them, trying her hardest to show them just how much. It's often where she demands perfection from herself, which can cycle into being pessimistic about her work, judging it too harshly, and then lacking motivation to finish it, or scrapping it and then taking forever to start again. She means well those those who show her the 'light', Armonia is just terrible at showing it.

How is the bottle found? The tick of a pocket watch by her ear, Abigail had been worried that when the wave had caught her off guard while at the tide pools, he precious watch had gotten waterlogged and stopped. It was not uncommon for the watch to stop, but, she had an appointment to keep in several hours. Missing it, the rehearsal for her cello performance, would be devastating to her. For the last year she had been working to get herself her own performance and now, at a local theater, they had opened their doors. She’d made it past the auditions and now, it was rehearsals where she would play while they adjusted lights and sounds. Her dream was coming true, is on a small scale.

Yet- she lacked in motivation. Her drive had become a mere shadow of what it once was, her playing no longer holding the passion she’d begun with. What had happened aside from her getting her slot? Nothing. It was simply put, her own fears manifesting in doubt resulting in an unusual lack of drive to perform. Each night she forced out her piece written for the show, yet each time it was just that, forced. She was a bird who just recently learned to fly, and now had begun to fear falling.

It was a simple gift given to her at her apartment, her lover dropping it off as she changed out of her wet and waterlogged clothes. A glass bottle, with a strange alluring melody humming under the glass. Her lover said it was the sound of the sea, of a woman’s love. Abigail heard neither, but rather her own lament. It was the song in her heart that she had begun to dread, the truth of her desires laid into a sound she could not create with her music. She wanted to shrink down, crawl into the bottle, and let it’s music carry her away.

The rehearsal remained empty that night, and Abigail found herself wound in cotton sheets, her beloved kissing away her tears. Reality was a harsh mistress, and Abigail had faced it. Her cello playing was not going to get her onto the stage. The message on her phone confirmed that. A last minute change, she was to play her song at the end, as people left. She had been replaced by a professional. An insult to her pride, she hadn’t bothered to return the director’s call. Soft kisses and murmurs of love wrapped around her, she slept for a while, until her love left her too.

Alone, the bottle remained where she left it. It’s song reaching out to her more than ever. Her dream had died, the pocket watch had stopped working the same time the call had been made. A lover's gift, one that she cherished, even if she hated it's reality. Setting the bottle on her bedside she closed her eyes, drifting to other, brighter dreams.

IDK STILL OPEN?
EDIT: YES WE ARE. 8U

CHASE AWAY MY HARMONY
Dust's Name: Lenore (or Len, for short)
Gender: Female

Basic Appearance: I imagine her with long, light hair, a contrast against the dark blue of the ocean water. Its texture is slippery, not unlike beads of quicksilver, and it should seem sort of lively. It’s pinned up on one side with a decoration of flowers and seashells. I would be interested in seeing her holding a set of delicate bells, a small harp, or a conch, if it pleases the artist. I also imagine her wearing various shades of blue, like her bottle, and she should not only invoke a sense of the aquatic, but of air.
Overall, though, Len should appear fairly soft and muted, for her compulsion as a ‘siren’ is generally more subtle than severe. These were the first and most solid images I had of her, but I would love for BP to take artistic liberties with her clothes and coloration.

Powers:
Ligeia’s Descant – named for a mythological siren, this ability is characterized by a slow, haunting tune. It’s not a buoyant melody by any means, instead sounding lulling and even mediocre, for its aim is hypnosis. All who hear this theme settle into a temporary state of confusion. Those with more sensitive ears become stunned, unable to function normally until the last echoes of the song fade, and disorientation may linger for several minutes even after this. Otherwise, the effects of this power are short-lived, lasting only the duration of the song.

Sonic Defensive – when Lenore feels threatened, she has the ability to produce a high-pitched scream that is inaudible to most ears. A sonic barrier, this shield repels sound waves heading her way, and slows down a number of weaker physical attacks.

Ghost Harmony – in which Len supplements her vocal powers with the sounds of her musical instrument. As it creates a more complete song, this enhances the efficacy of her powers, but leaves her hands tied for as long as the accompaniment is played. By itself or with Len’s everyday singing voice, this ability has a compelling effect on her listeners, drawing them to her.

Keywords: Longing. Fond. Dreamer. Steadfast. Wrathful.
Personality:
Lenore, not unlike the compelling effects of the siren on her prey, is often characterized by a sense of longing. For someone as curious as this particular Dust, this means that she often fixates on the novel and interesting, sometimes to the point of obsession, and is inordinately distraught when it is removed from her. In personal relationships, this makes her seem very fond and friendly, seeing as she puts her all into a friendship without necessarily expecting the same effort in return. More distant Dusts and humans might regard her as codependent, but those who value constant interpersonal relationships value Len’s friendship, for she is extremely faithful.

The Dust is first and foremost a dreamer, in that she has many ideals and prefers to follow her heart over her mind. Because she steadfastly aligns herself with such fixations and standards, Len is very goal-oriented, and likes to see things through to the very end. This is tempered by the fact that it is difficult for her to get anything started; she spends more time with her head in the clouds thinking about what her heart is telling her to do, than actually doing it. Thus, her magical powers manifest themselves in a passive, defensive manner—Len never starts the fight.

That is, unless her deep fixation with something is spurned. Lenore has rarely had to fret her head over not getting her way, for between her guardian spoiling her and her natural alluring voice (of which she is largely unaware), things always fell into place. The Dust has an alarming potential for wrath and volatility when something interferes with her loved things, people, and wants. Her guardian knows how to allay these tantrums when they occur, but the same can’t always be said of others...

How is the bottle found?
The warm smile on Arianne’s face had faded a notch. “You want to pay me with this?” she inquired lightly of the middle-aged guitarist standing before her, eyeing the crystalline blue bottle he held in his calloused hands skeptically. “I only take gold, my dear client.”

“Look,” was the uncomfortable rumble as the man fished a piece of parchment out of his pocket to hand to the guitar maker, “That’s certification that it’s worth thirty gold pieces. You’ll be able to sell it easily to make the rest of the payment.” When he saw the hesitation on the woman’s face, he stepped forward, pressing the bottle into her hands. “It’s all I could get together to make the half right now. I’ll have the rest when you finish the guitar, as promised. Please understand, Ari.”

Arianne Foscari was well-known in the Floating City of Aimes for her craft, but her reasonable temperament preceded even her reputation. Though the young woman ran a stringent business, she was not the sort to cancel a high-paying custom order on the basis of a missing handful of gold... or in this case, a pretty bottle. The guitar maker may have thought that she was extending her client a small courtesy, but she had no way of knowing that it was the very bauble she held in her hands which had compelled her kindness this time.

“It’s fine,” Arianne said finally, cupping the blue bottle in her hand in an oddly protective motion before turning to place it on a shelf just over her work area. “I’ll send word when your guitar is finished, sir.”

Weeks passed by as activity resumed in Arianne’s workshop, the bottle quickly forgotten amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday living. Negotiating orders with her clientele by day, Ari fell to working on her stringed masterpieces by evening. Sometimes, though, when she sang gently to keep herself company on a late night, something would draw her eyes upward for a split moment, toward the aquamarine bottle that rested only just above her head. Other times, as she strung her completed works and tuned the instruments, she found that a light would flash overhead, though she could never exactly pinpoint where it had come from.

The man’s order was eventually filled and delivered, and Arianne did not miss the longing glance he made at the bottle on her shelf as he came in to pick up his guitar. Indeed, it had become an inexplicably recurring theme among her clients—many would find themselves staring at the thing for no understandable reason. Even Arianne now found that she was somehow bound, rooted in place as if by an invisible string whenever she gazed upon the innocent bottle for too long.

She never could manage to bring herself to sell that bottle for the thirty gold pieces it was supposed to be worth.

SAY HELLO TO YOUR LION'S HEART

Dust's Name: Rhys

Gender: Male

Basic Appearance: One of the main inspirations I have for Rhys's appearance is this image that I found while researching. I would love it if he could have fluffy animal ears similar to those shown in the picture, along with them having earrings of some sort (though probably not the dangly chain type, since I see him getting those caught in something far too easily). If possible I would also like it if he could have wings, preferably big enough to allow flight. As for colors I am seeing reddish browns, cream/ivory, smoky black/grey, faded red, and hummingbird green. The different browns and blacks come from the griffin, with the colors of feathers and talons/beak, while the faded red and ivory come from the colors of the heart itself. The hummingbird green was actually inspired by the previous dust spin of this dust; I love the green that was shown on the bottle before, and I want to be able to see it used. The only specific color request I have is that the green be used for the eyes, but the rest (including other uses of the green) is up to the artist, along with the skin tone.

Powers:
Flight - whether it is to get from point a to point b or just to have fun, Rhys can soar and twirl through the air with a simple twist of the wing. At first his powers of flight will be rather low key, but with sufficient practice the griffin could become an aerial menace and skilled acrobat in the air.

Eagle Eyes - like the eagle that is an integral part of the griffin, Rhys has absurdly good eyesight that allows him to notice many little details and see long distance with the best of them. Additionally, he is temporarily able to force his sight to go above and beyond it's already amazing capabilities, but he must be careful - if he does the extreme seeing for too long he will give himself a raging eyestrain headache that will not go away for several hours.

Strength - The griffin of legend is renowned for its great strength, and Rhys is no exception. This little griffin is able to lift objects many times his size with ease, and every day heavy objects are no work at all. A good deal of energy is needed for this, which means massive meals and power naps would be paired with the largest feats of strength.

Keywords: Noble, Curious, Fierce, Self Assured

Personality: Rhys is a noble individual, but at first it is to an almost stupid degree. Early on if there is any sort of hint that someone may be in trouble or is need of help, the griffin will be there in an instant to save the day - except, the help isn't always needed, or wanted. Luckily the boy's heart is in the right place so that the worst missteps have a chance to be forgiven, and over time he will learn the correct time to save the day.

Another aspect of Rhys's nobility is how he values truth. For one thing, he has a horrible poker face, lies simply not coming to him naturally, and perhaps early on not even realizing that he can lie. Realizing the extent of lies in the world will come as a blow to the griffin, not just for the fact that so many people lie so often, but that stories aren't necessarily true, similar to a child learning the truth about Santa. After this he will make an even harder effort to be truthful, but he will also have to learn how to steel himself against lies inevitably happening in the future. At first any sort of lie will anger and annoy Rhys to some degree, but eventually he will learn that sometimes lies may be necessary. He still won't like it, but over time he will come to accept that simple truth.

The origin of Rhys's heroic aspirations is a rabid curiosity; the entire world is an amazing place the griffin wants to learn about, and in his search to learn he eventually came across story books. He instantly fell in love with the sweeping stories, fantastical worlds, and noble heroes, and from that point on he was forever lost to the magic of literature. It did not take long for him to learn to read his own books outside of what Tanaya read to him at night, and it took even less time for him to try and emulate his favorite heroes. Eventually, he will settle into his own heroic identity, but until then he will have as much fun as he can living out all the fantasies he can.

Rhys is very much a kid: energetic, loving, and a tad naive for while. Even so, there is already a hint of what is to come with an astonishing fierceness that arises in times of need. This is when the facade of play hero drops away, and the true valiant griffin can be seen. The griffin knows that there is evil in the world, and while it saddens him even when he doesn't understand it, he knows that he must, and always will, stand against it. Rhys will fight tooth and talon for those he cares about, and will continue fighting until the threat is vanquished or, if that fails, until he cannot fight any longer.

Rhys has quirks and flaws and strengths like any other individual, but at the same time he is quite content with who he is. He isn't against changing personal flaws (Tanaya disabused him from thinking otherwise fairly quickly), but he will not change himself simply to suit the perceptions of others. Rhys is who he is, and he is happy with that.

How is the bottle found? For her 35th birthday Tanaya received a great many gifts, but the most peculiar had to be the small bottle with a heart inside. That didn't mean the reason for getting it was unknown however - years ago early on in her cooking she had accidentally left the giblets inside a holiday turkey, and the heart had ended up on the plate of one of her close friends. Afterwords the friend decided to never let Tanaya live the incident down, and even since the cook has recieved various heart related gag gifts over the years. Therefore, when the friend spied the dusty little bottle hidden on the back of a curio shop shelf, she knew exactly where it must go. Tanaya had a good laugh over the bottle, and yet.... there was a sense, a feeling, that there was something much more to this little bottle than an old joke between friends.
