She couldn't find the girl. She had seemed to disappear into the crowd. "Oh well," she said as she gave up. She would normally be more persistent, but she was hungry. She went to sit wih Nick. As she waited for the server to return so she could order, she wondered why she remembered those eyes. She seemed to slip into a trance as she rested her elbow on the table and her chin on her hand.

Astara looked up at the company coming inside.
Travellers like me probably she thought and her interest faded as her meal came.
She tapped her fingers on the table before eating quickly, a elf with travelling clothes tapped her on the shoulder and sat down next to her.
"Hey, are you a demon or what?" He asked looking at her.
She pushed her plate away and glared at him thoughtfully before answering, "Do I look like one?"
"Well..." He said and shifted his feet under the table, unsettled by her eyes, "Demons come in lots of shapes and sizes, you look like someone I know."
"Then you better not come near me," She snapped sick of people calling her a demon and someone they knew.
Because I can shape shift or people say I can she thought uneasily and got up from the table.
She booked a room for the night and went up the stairs to her room.

Reika snapped back to reality as she again saw a flash of gold. The girl she'd been looking for was going upstairs for the night. Maybe I can talk to her in the morning. For now, I'll eat, she thought. The server came back with Nick's order. Reika ordered and bagan to survey the people around her. Something didn't sit right with her and she looked for people that looked about as strange as her and worse. Most people would've taken off their cloaks by now, but she was adamant about keeping hers on. She said to Nick, "We're staying here? I need a bath, badly." I also need to figure out what's wrong here.

Nick had looked to Reika as she took a seat at the table. She was about to ask what was wrong, but didn't get the chance as the server returned with her meal. She was about to dig in, but contained herself. She had been taught that it was impolite to eat unless everyone else at the table had their meal as well. She gently pushed the plate to the side and placed her hands in her lap. She took her mind off the food and gave her attention to Reika. A soft giggle escaped her when she heard the bath comment, "Yes, we'll stay here. This seems like a nice place and I would like to freshen up as well". She paused for a bit before she continued. She wasn't sure what was bothering Reika or if it was any of her business, but she decided to ask anyway. Not in hopes of getting an answer, but just to show her concern, "Is everything all right? You don't look too happy about something?", the last being more of a guess than a statement.
Haru continued to sit at his table and watch the girls. He reclined in his chair as he set his feet on the table with his arms crossed over his chest. He watched their every move and took in every word. He could hear everyone in the building, even at a whisper, though he had cancelled them out. He had noticed Nick's friend as she looked about. One person is no problem, two is more work than I want to do. If she puts herself in a group, that'll just make my job harder..., he thought to himself. He frowned at the idea as he continued to think about the situation, She usually doesn't keep friends for long. Just have to wait for the right time.

She smiled as Nick comfirmed their overnight stay at least. "Good." She started doodling on the slightly rough table with her fingernail. "It's prabably nothing." Even if I am being paranoid, isn't it better to be safe than sorry? "Well, my sixth sense tells me there's something wrong," she said in a low voice. "But anyway, forget about it. Let's eat!" she exclaimed as her server brought her food. She barely remembered that she was supposed to use a spoon with her stew.

"Oh...okay", Nick replied with a smile. She didn't know what the problem could be and none of her seneses had picked up anything so she dropped the subject. At seeing Reika's stew arrive, she slide her plate in front of her and began to eat. She had a platter full of assorted veggies and meats, half of which she had never seen before, but at this point of time she was willing to try anything. She ate with her claws at first, not really use to using utensils, but she corrected herself and used her fork and knife when she saw Reika using her spoon. She held them in an odd position as she tried to remember how to use them. She was certain that most likely she looked like a child who had just been taught to use their utensils, but she kept at it. After she was done, Nick pushed her plate away and leaned back in her chair with full belly. Her purple wrap and pants had small stains here and there from where her food had slid off her fork and onto her clothes. She looked down at herself and gave a small sigh as she felt her face growing hot. She was embrassed from having tried to eat like a normal person, only to end up failing.

In her room she shut the door silently behind her and locked it. She dumped her bag at the base of the bed and on the bed, unclipped her cloak and loosened the laces on her shoes and clothing. She sighed contentedly and resisting the urge to immediately fall asleep she opened the window and sticking her head out she looked up. A shadow in the sky came fluttering downwards towards her and she let room for Hawk to land.
She landed on the top of a wooden chair and tittered quitely before settling down. Watching Astara intently with her sharp eyes.
"Bath time, you coming?" Astara said stretching her arms.
Hawk looked at her as if she was crazy and started to preen her feathers.
Astara went in the bathroom and using the pitcher of water, cleaned herself, she redressed and went out again.
Unable to plan for any job she lay herself on the bed and closed her eyes, falling asleep.

Reika practically inhaled the stew and had to keep herself from licking the bowl clean. She finally looked up to see Nick with messy clothes and a red face. "So you were as hungry as me, it seems." She giggled a bit. She stood up and headed to the front desk to pay for a room for the night for both of them. Now that the business was taken care of, she headed back to Nick. She tossed her companion a key as she said, "We're in room 204. Seems there are a lot of patrons tonight. I'm going to take a nice, long bath in the hot spring." She then quickly headed upstairs. After a quick look behind her, she went into her room and immediately locked it. She took off her heavy black cloak, took the heavy holsters off her back, and put both and her sword under her bed. Her bag went beside her bed on the floor and after finding fresh clothes, she wrapped a towel arond her body, pulled her hair back into a messy bun and headed quickly for the spring. She thought about grabbing her cloak, but decided it should be a quick and solitary bath. She did keep her dagger strapped to her arm though. One can never be too careful.

Nick's face went back to it's normal color as she gave Reika big grin in reply to her comment. She caught the key that was tossed to her and looked it for a moment. She gave Reika a nod as she spoke, "All right then. Thanks". She then watched her companion head up the stairs as she continue to relax in her seat. She was still too full to even think about moving. The server returned asking if she wanted more, but she politely turned him down and told him to give her compliments to the chef. She looked around and took in the sight of the room, watching the other people as she waited for the food in her belly to digest more.
Haru watched as Nick's friend went to get them a room and then took her leave upstairs. He waited a bit to see if Nick would follow, but she didn't. He slowly shook his head, knowing what the problem was, She always have eaten too much. Her overly full belly is going to be the death of her, he thought to himself as he removed his feet from the table. He waited a few more minutes before deciding to take advantage of the situation. If he didn't now, there was no telling when he would get her alone again. He kept himself masked as he made his way around the people and over to Nick. He stood behind her for a moment before stepping up and covering her eyes with his hands.
Nick had been in her own little world when all of a sudden it went dark. She stiffened up as her heart began to beat faster. She knew who was behind her and she was grateful that she was in a room full of people. She tried to relax as she spoke, "Haru...what do you want?"
At seeing that she recognized him, he moved his hands from her eyes, down her face and rested them on her shoulder's. A grin spread across his face when he heard the question. He replied in a deep and smooth voice, the type of voice that one would expect him to have, "You know exactly what I want. You can either give up freely or I can make you. Either way, I'm taking you out of this race".
Nick shifted around in her seat a little bit, but Haru had pressure on her shoulder's and that made it difficult to move. Instead, she crossed her arms as she replied to him, "I'm not going to quit and I would like to see you try to stop me. You may have gotten the better of me last time, but I was naive. Even now Haru, you're a pathetic excuse. You're only barely stronger than I am though you've had more training. You proved that the last time we met. You really think the elder's are going to keep training you once they find out that you're nothing but a failure?"
Haru stood completely still has he heard Nick's words. She was right, he should be stronger, but unlike her, he had little natural talent for the training he was receiving and had to practice hard just to get better at using what he knew. If he didn't stop her, he knew that she would surpass him within due time and he couldn't allow that. He looked down at the top of her head before leaning in close to her right ear. He brought a clawed finger up to left side of her face and dug it into the skin under her fur. He felt her ever so slightly flinch at the touch and that made him smile, "Okay princess, I'll show you how much of a failure I am if you don't get out of my way. I'm entertaining this deal of yours, but keep this up and I'll take out you and your friend. I'm stronger than you know", with that he dropped his shield's and allowed some of his power to roll over her. He then drug his claw down the length of her face before releasing his grasp and leaving the inn.
Nick had flinched a bit when Haru pressed his claw to her face. She cursed herself for doing so and wished that she could take it back. She listened to his words and then felt his power roll over her. She fought hard not to gasp, and succeeded. When he scratched her face, she hadn't felt it. Instead she just sat there, unable to believe what she had just felt. She slowly turned her head and looked at him as he walked out of the inn. I've underestimated him..., she thought to herself as she brought a hand up to her face, But how. When has he had that much time to train and get that strong...it's not possible. And that wasn't even his full potential.... She drew her hand away from her face and looked at the blood print. Now that Haru's power was starting to leave her, she was beginning to feel the pain. She went in her backpack and produced a white cloth and a vial filled with a light green liquid. She took the top off the vial, poured a little on the cloth, recapped it and put the vial back in her bag. She then held the cloth up to her face. It would probably leave a mark, but it would at least stop the bleeding.

Nick put the blood stained cloth away as she stood up and made her way towards her room. Using the key, she opened the door and closed it behind her. She immediately went to the bathroom and removed the stained clothes and her weapons. She then got a small towel and cleaned the visible spots on her fur. When she was done, she grabbed a large towel and wrapped it around her as she walked back out into the room carrying her pack, weapons and clothes. She set the clothes in a neat pile on the floor, put her weapons in her backpack and hid it under her bed. She then proceeded to make her way to the springs. Hot water would be most welcoming and relaxing to her right now. Her face still ached a bit and she couldn't help but to put a hand up to it as she walked. Once she made it to the springs, she sat along the edge with her feet in the water as she thought about her recent visit from Haru.

Reika had almost fallen asleep leaned back against the rocks. She hadn't even heard Nick come in, so by the time she awakened fully, she knew there was no time to hide. She just laid back again on her towel, eyes closed, too tired to try to cover her face. She looked out the corner of her eye. "I feel residual magic pouring off of you. What happened? And why are you holding your face?" she asked as she sat up and looked toward her companion. Now Nick could see behind the hood. Five long deep slashes ran down her face. One covered her right eye, the healing process sealing it shut. The eye that was still open blazed a bloody red. She paled.

Nick was so deep in thought that she hadn't really noticed Reika. At hearing her voice, she looked up a bit shocked. Once she realized who it was, she calmed and answered her question, "Haru decided to visit with me", she said as she took her hand away from her face to show her the cut. It was still fresh and ran from right under her eye down to the end of her face. It still ached a bit, but the pain was more mental than anything. Even now it was healing and by tomorrow there would be no trace of it. She noticed that there was something different about Reika and it took her longer than she would have liked to realize that this was the first time she had seen her face. She looked at her and took in the details of the scars that ran down her face and over one eye, though she didn't stare. She directed her gaze elsewhere as she climbed completely into the water. She smiled as she wrapped her tail around her body, bringing it in front of her, and casually played with the wet fur.

Reika saw Nick take in her face. She admired the half-demon for not staring, gaping, or screaming, like many had done before. "A scratch like that doesn't explain your face, though. You look like you've been struck by lightning," she lazily replied. I knew something was wrong, but I didn't know what. Now because I was thinking about myself, that man got to Nick. She knew well how to mask the emotions in her voice. "Is it the power? I can't even touch that." Her voice had become quiet. "I've never felt, anything that can even compare to that. And if that's the leftovers, I almost fear meeting this Haru in combat."

Nick turned her attention to Reika as she spoke. She smiled when she heard her face being described. She took a breath and let it out slowly as her face went back to its usual smiling self. At hearing her question, she nodded as she spoke, "Yes, it's his power. He's grown more than I had expected...more than I thought was possible in such a short time. I don't know how he did it, but he has done it", she seemed to slip into a state of thought, focusing her eyes on the water. At hearing Reika continue, she looked at her. She gave a small laugh at the last part as she gently shook her head, "Haru is powerful, but nothing to fear. Just because he has the power doesn't mean he has full control over it, though I'm not sure about that part either. Hehe, it's like trying to figure out a puzzle", she then gave a big toothy smile. She knew that she could go head to head with Haru any day. Not because he wasn't allowed to kill her, but because she had better control over her power. She knew that stronger didn't always equal better, though she feared that her logic might change if he received more training. Nick gave a big yawn as she stood up and made her way out of the water. She carefully ran her clawed hands down her tail to ring out the excess water and then she began to shake. It started with her head, ran down her middle to her feet and ended with a sharp flick of her tail. It wasn't a violent shake, but it was enough to relieve her fur of some of the water. She then looked around, hoping that she hadn't gotten anyone wet. "I think I'm going to head to bed, I'm pretty tired", she said to Reika as she started to make her way towards the room.
