Pictures, my friend, are worth 1000 words! They speak to the soul more directly than words ever could! The picture at the front of this guild should be inviting to all not just some! Where you say good enough I say do better!

This is assuming that anything you say has validity here. I think it's arrogant and pompous to come into a guild you don't own and start insulting it. The gull of it is plain sickening.

Saverio C.
Again I stress that content is not my issue, and for you to accuse me of calling reverse discrimination is quite absurd. I feel the need to air a grievance that is clearly valid.

What I think is absurd is you coming here and trying to stir up drama. rolleyes

Saverio C.
You are right, there is nothing bad in this guild about being straight, but at the same time it is mentally discouraged by the official posts of this guild. It's an easy fix to make, commission a new banner and add a word in the title of the thread. The latter should have been artfully done long ago.

If you don't like the way things are run in this guild then you are more than welcomed to leave, start your own guild, and make it the way you see fit. smile

I'm straight.

For the most part.

I think the intro page is more of a support device to show there are people like you and them. Generally, straight people don't really have that 'fear' of being ostracized, and most of us don't really need an introduction other than "Hey! I'm new, whuddup? *very friendly*"

That and it goes to show that most people don't read the middle words or letters to words. Its a flaw in most humans, don't worry about it.

I'm seeing all kinds of love- when I look at the picture I see lots of relationships.

I'm sure there are more then what I found.

I agree with this:
Chakatai Khan
Based on the idea of this guild, everyone here should be equal and allied. Therewise, no sexual orientation should be held less important, but it's the ones involved within to make it visible. If you won't hold your head up, nobody will.

As a straight person, I disagree with you Saverio. I feel in GGSA I am going to be the minority and I am perfectly fine with this because I'm an Ally of the LGBTQ community. The description for the guild says:

Quote:
Our goal is to spread awareness of, lessen unwarranted hatred of, and create a safe haven for the LGBTQ community and their allies.

AND THEIR ALLIES- I'm not LGBTQ, but I am one of their allies- Therefore, I come in second to all the others but Equal at the same exact time. I understand the GGSA is a bridge between the multiple orientations out there. I can only assume there will be more of a different orientation here then straight because this should be like a Sanctuary on Gaia. So, if you want to be heard you have to open your mouth more... but not in a negative way. That's not nice.

With all that being said- any sextual orientation when entering this guild becomes almost null and void because we are equal.

I'll stop ranting now. I hope somebody understood what I was trying to say there.

This guild is supposed to be a place for gay and straight interact in a healthy way from my impression of the title. Yet the guild refuses to acknowledge the straight members of this guild. An alliance is a joining of more then one group of people and this guild draws that line at "gay" and straight. Yet straight people are denied a place to introduce themselves. "Gay, Bi, Trans? Tell us about yourself here" clearly discourages the straight members from introducing themselves. They are suppose to be part of this alliance too.

No where is this mental bias for the non-straight more apparent then the front page of the guild. There is no straight couple there for people too see. The point of this guild to welcome everyone who is an ally, and create more allies, for the gay movement. How is this possible when they are shunned and pushed out of the spot light in this way? Straight people can't feel welcomed when they are ignored so forcefully and deliberately denied acknowledgment of our participation in the alliance.
"Gay, Straight, Bi, Trans?" I'm sorry, but straight people aren't the minority here. That thread isn't meant to drive straight people away, but meant for people to share their stories about coming out, and possibly their hardships that they've had.

It's not that you're underrepresented, it's that you don't need it as much. A GSA (to me) is meant to show that members of the gay community and heterosexual individuals can get along, and live in harmony without being heavily discriminated against. Every straight person that joins one makes that much of a difference, because it shows that they accept gays and want to see them succeed in having equal rights.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but I can assure you that we care about your opinions just as much as we care about the next person's.

The picture at the time of his post was completely different than the one we have now. Just FYI. :3 I doubt Sav has even been back to the guild since the time he made the thread.

Well...if the name of the guild defined it, then bisexuals and transgendered people, and depending on who you ask, lesbians would all be excluded.

Well this guild is for everyone who wants to get involved in LGBT issues. So, who cares about LGBT issues more than LGBT people? Obviously, you're going to get a lot of LGBT people in a LGBT guild. If you wanted to talk to/about straight people who support LGBT issues, join a guild that does stuff like that.
If you want to get out there and do some charity for the non-straights, you should get involved with the Give A Damn Campaign. It's a LGBT support group (founded by Cyndi Lauper I think) that contains predominantly straights.
Ozzy and Sharon Osborne and their kids are involved, and like I said, so is Cyndi Lauper, as well as other celebs. Google it if you're interested.

I hate to reinforce the reputation I'm gaining of Gaia's premier homosexual arsehole (actually, no I don't, I revel in it) but AHHHHWWW, you poor baby.
Did they hurt your feelings by not including you in an introduction thread? You poor thing! Isn't life hard? They're clearly out to get you! Those nasty fags!

Seriously?

Late reply, but gay doesn't just apply to men. It can but it also functions (as I've seen at least) as a catch all term.

But yeah, old topic is old. @__@
