Rei tilted his head at the suggestion. It had been a long time since he had had a proper bath. He remembered the hot water. He smiled then, a real smile, one that showed no fear or nervousness. He remembered baths. He nodded then, he liked hot water. Actually he liked water in general his mother had taught him to swim when he was very young. "Me too I like Rex" He grinned a bit. He watched as Aira shook Rex's paw. He put the other on his shoulder again then and looked at the other. He thought about Lorcan's question and his ears twitched. "I can" He said nodding again. He had been taught all of that when he had been a few years younger. Before he had been told to run. Before he had been alone. And he was sure he remembered. He nodded again looking a bit more confident. He could prepare his own food... if he knew what he could and couldn't eat, he could bathe on his own. He was a bit slow in speech but he would pick it up again as long as he continued talking and working at it. He could not read though. Or write. But he was a rather quick learner and he didn't think that it was all that important to read or write anyway. He had never needed it in his short life.
He glanced each way. "Where?" He asked wondering where the bathroom was. His clothing was dirty and dusty but it wasn't all that worse for wear. They needed a wash but they still fit him well, and didn't have any rips or tears. he smiled to himself and continued to pet Rex. The rat was a bit skinny too and likely also needed a bath but not right now.

Lorcan thought about it, trying to place where Rei would probably sleep. "Well. . . there's a lotta bathrooms. The one closest to my room, though, is this way. " He glanced at Niccele, who nodded, then grinned back at Rei. "You can have the room next to mine. " He lightly grabbed Rei's wrist, and gently started leading him up the stairs, towards the bedrooms.
Aira flew off in a different direction, and came back struggling under the weight of a towel. Hefting it up, she flew up towards the bathroom that Lorcan was taking Rei towards.
Lorcan opened hte bathroom door, and stepped back. "Here ya go!"

Rei watch the woman for a minute, Lorcan almost seemed to check with her every time he was about to do something. Like he himself had done with his mother.... Was that what she was to the other boy? He didn't fully understand but he could see why the other might have felt that way. From what the other had told him Niccele had raised him for the last little while. And that made Ray think that maybe she wasn't so bad. He was still a little bit nervous about the new place and the fact that he didn't know the area and didn't know what to do. He would get used to it though, and soon he would calm though. Once he had settled then he would be easier for the adult to approach. He was much like an animal that hadn't been socialized. He knew that the lady was the daughter of the man who had made his mother the way she was. He didn't hold grudges though, he had never bothered. He didn't have much of a temper, he was more the type to become scared rather then aggressive. It really just wasn't in his genes to be aggressive. Though his mother had been more aggressive then him. He didn't know why he hadn't ended up with that temper. But it didn't matter as much to him. He had loved his mother and she had never been mean to him. Had never hurt him.
He glanced behind him and was surprised when he saw Aira had been carrying a towel. He reached towards her and lifted the towel. "Thank" He said smiling thankfully at her. He walked into the bathroom and looked back at Lorcan. He offered him a smile too, then though he closed the door slowly, waving bye for now to his new friends. He didn't bother with the lock there was no point. He had honestly just forgotten and wasn't used to locked doors anyway. he put Rex down on the floor so that the rat could explore. He started running the bath and pulled off his dirty and dusty clothes.

Lorcan grinned a bit, then turned and ran down the stairs. He went to a big room where Niccele had stored some clothes, and went through them, looking for something he thought might fit Rei. He fell into a box, but somehow managed to get out.
Running back upstairs, he set them down- folded- outside the bathroom door and ran to his bedroom. He went straight to his toys, glancing at them. He didn't have many, since he was prone to exploring more than playing, and he had his little friends.
Aira was the only one who stayed by his side all the time, most of them had to stay in his room, or they'd run away completely. He stopped by them, petting a few of them, and picked up a few boats, setting them outside the bathroom door and knocking a bit. "Ellos?! Rei? I gots some clothes and a few of my toys for you. "

He made sure that the water was the right temperature, he put his clothes in the corner and smiled as Rex squeaked at him. He bent a bit and pet the rat as it scurried around. He looked up though when he heard a voice. turning off the faucets because the bath was full enough and warm enough he walked over to the door and opened it standing partially behind the door. He brought the cloths and toys in smiling, a gleam in his eyes. He grinned at the other playfully. "Thank" He repeated what he had said earlier. He was happy that he had clean clothes he also looked down at the boats. He picked one of them up and turned it over in his hands in wonder. He had never really had toys. He bid the other good bye for now again. He moved over to the hot bath and placed the toy boat on the surface of the water. He smiled when it floated. Feeling Rex run over his foot he bent down and scooped him up. Placing him on the toy boat he then got into the bath and sat down in the water.
His body shivered, scrapes burned lightly but it wasn't bad. He was happy even with the little pain he was in. He watched Rex as the rat took the plunge and swam over to him. He lifted him out of the water and put him on the edge of the bath. Rex scurried around the edge as Rei went back to playing with the toy boats.

"You're welcome!" Lorcan grinned, then ran downstairs to talk to Niccele. By now he had completely forgotten that by going outside and finding Rei, he'd seriously broken the rules. He didn't have too many to follow, but not leaving the house alone was a big one, and topped off that he hadn't told anyone. . . yeah.
He skidded to a stop, spotting Niccele chopping some veggies up for a salad. "Hi!" He grinned a bit. "I found him, did ya see? And now he's got a nice place to stay and I've got a friend!"
"You did do well, Scout, but. . . please, don't do it again. At least, at the very least, tell me. " Niccele smiled a worried smile at him. "Thank you though. " She croutched down and kissed his forehead. "Once he finishes his bath, you two can come down here while I'm cooking."

Rei splashed about a bit, playing with the toys he'd been given. He was amusing himself and time flew by rather quickly. He moved about a bit looking for soap, when he found what he was looking for he started cleaning himself up a bit, getting all the dirt and dust that was rubbed into his skin out. He then found some shampoo and washed his long hair. When he was done the water was now grayish. he pulled the plug and stood up, stepped out as it drained. He picked up the towel he had been given. Drying himself off and ringing out his hair and then towel drying it the best he could he worked on Rex then drying his short thick fur. He wrapped Rex up and then started dressing, pulling up the pants which were too long on his and the shirt that was a bit loose. He didn't mind it though, the over sized cloths were comfortable and he opened the door again. He held Rex to his chest keeping him wrapped up in the towel. He stepped out the door holding the couple of toys he'd been given not wanting to leave them in the bathroom, and holding Rex to his chest he stood in the hallway.

Aira was sitting on the railing of the stairs, within view of the door. She'd been swing her legs- which hung off he edge- and just letting her mind wander. When she saw Rei, though, she 'told' Lorcan about how he'd finished up. She smiled softly, and flew over. "Hellos! You can go ahead and take a nap, or go downstairs to be with Lorcan as Niccele makes dinner." She tilted her head. "Oh, and you can just leave the boats in the bathroom."
Lorcan was sitting at the dining table, swinging his legs. He glanced up at Niccele. "Aira says that Rei finished his bath. "

Rei looked over at Aira when he finally spotted her. His eyes were calmer now, more curious and less fearful. He looked a lot better too. Not as sickly though he was still obviously in the same state he had been in when he had come in with them. Only cleaner now... And his cuts wouldn't get infected now. He nodded and turned putting the toys in one of the free corners in the bathroom and making sure everything was neat. Still carrying Rex, wrapped in a towel back towards her he seemed to think about it before heading down the stairs but pausing he looked back at her. "Coming?" he asked her wondering if she had been waiting for him all that time. He was beginning to feel hungry again. He continued the rest of the way down the stairs and followed his nose to the kitchen. He was able to smell the dinner being prepared easily. Even if nothing was cooking yet. His ears perked as he stepped into the kitchen. This time though he passed by the adult without shying away, more like he simply didn't register that she was there. He moved over to where Lorcan was sitting and sat down across from him.

Aira got up, and flew down, following him. When she got down there, she sat down in Lorcan's hood, curling up to take a nap.
Niccele glanced behind her when he walked by, glad that he looked a little better and seemed less. . . flinchy. She smiled at the two boys, then finished making the salad. She started preparing some meat patty's though, for hamburgers.
Before she could ask, Lorcan piped up. "Do you want a hamburger too? You only ate the fruit from the bag. . ." He tilted his head.

Rei stretched a bit, stretching out his legs and arms. He felt better already really but his hunger was back. He blinked at the question though. He shook his head. "Meat bad." He muttered softly, placing Rex down on the table and going back to rubbing his fur dry. he couldn't digest meat, it made him sick to his stomach. The same as almost all processed foods. He didn't know why he couldn't eat these foods and frankly it didn't really matter he just knew he couldn't. He tilted his head, oh right there had been candy and a couple of other things in the bag as well. He frowned again searching for the words he needed. " Some food bad..." His frown deepened and he shook his head telling the other he hadn't phrased it right. "Make me sick." He continued anyway without figuring out what was wrong with the sentence before hand. There was no point. His speech was terrible and he knew it. He would get better eventually without a doubt but for now this was all he could offer as means of communication. Putting his chin on the table and looking at Rex he watched as the rat walked up to him and pushed his head against his nose. Rei smiled at the small animal. He pet him again, brushing his fingers through the slightly damp fur.

Lorcan blinked a bit, and nodded. "Alright." He didn't get, as many kids did, why he got sick from meat and some things. Still, he blindly agreed. After all, some things did make him sick. Not meat, but other things. Turning, he reached into his hood and pulled the sleeping Aira out. He pulled off his hat- a very rare occurance- and set her down on it, on the table. "I made Aira when I was three. She's got hair a little like Niccele, and her eyes are kinda like Daddy's were."
Niccele set a bowl down on the table, with the salad in it, and stared at Lorcan and Aira with a sad expression. She wished she could have saved his father, that his father could have lived. She turned to make her and Lorcan's burgers. She wished for a lot of things. The what if game had begun to tire her, though, after so much time of doing it. she turned and set Lorcan's plate in front of him. On his plate was a little bit of food- for Aira.

Rei could see that Lorcan didn't quite understand what he had said. He glanced at the other. He didn't know how to better explain it. All he knew was that he couldn't eat meat it just didn't work. it made him terribly sick. He rubbed the back of his head lightly and listened to the other nodding slightly as he looked at the sleeping Aira. He nodded seeing the similarity. He looked from child to adult and back. He could smell the meat being cooked but the smell didn't make him hungrier. He didn't have that same drive as predictors and humans had. He was a herbivore through and through he was sure that eventually Niccele would figure it would eventually. It wasn't hard to see after all. and it certainly wasn't hard to place. Once one knew who his mother was and the animals that shared his DNA is was obvious why it would make him sick to his stomach. He nuzzled into his arms, nuzzling Rex. He loved his little rat, who had been with him for a long while now. A couple of months. The rat had found him and not the other way around and the two were together ever since. He watched as Niccele set a bowl of salad on the table. He tilted his head and lifted it off the table looking into the bowl with interest. He picked at it with his fingers, eating some of the large pieces of lettuce happily. Offering some of it to Rex.

Lorcan blinked a bit, and leaned forward to whisper- as if he didn't want Niccele to hear- "Rei? You're not supposed to put your hand in the bowl. Niccele'll put it on plates, and then you use a fork." Lorcan looked worried- he was thinking about his poor friend. To him, doing something like that mean you hadn't had someone around to teach you it was wrong. Which was sad. . . he at least had Niccele.
Niccele's eyes saddened for a brief moment, then she pushed it off and put it onto plates. "you don't need to use a fork, Rei. " She sat down, and smiled at them. Then she got up and went to the fridge- coming back with cheese. "Rei? Does Rex like cheese?" She set it down on the table for the mouse.

Rei paused when the other leaned in to whisper to him. He looked confused for a moment. He wasn't used to eating at a table or even having simple table manners. He had been too young to remember when his mother had still had meals with him at the table. His eyes held confusion in them as he looked at Lorcan and then to Niccele. He didn't know why Lorcan looked rather sad about something, and the same with Niccele's eyes. Had he done something so wrong that it had made them sad? He looked down at his hands and blinked a bit still seemingly very confused. All of this transferring food from bowl to plate and then using a fork... it seemed rather useless to him. Wouldn't it save the amount of work if they just ate out of the bowl. He looked down at the plate now in front of him with the salad on it. He glanced at the fork unsure of what to do. The boy was still uncomfortable and he went with what felt right, he found security in his old habits and so he used them in this new and still uncomfortable place. He nodded when Niccele came back holding cheese. Rex had finished the bit of lettuce the small boy had given him and the rat bounded over to Niccele as she set it down. Picking it up in his tiny paws and beginning to naw his way through the cheese.
