IKN scanned her copy for me. heart

It's actually worse than I expected. XD I felt like slaughtering the guy on the second page equating ALL Japanese to the fruitcakes in dresses he'd been exposed to. Though he is admittedly completely new to Japanese rock music, what kind of idiot sees only a handful of bands and assumes that country can produce nothing else. And then asking "Where's jrock's Bob Dylan?" Hilariously so, the punk scene in Japan WORSHIP HIM LIKE A GOD. Hell, Highway61 is not only a Dylan album, but a Japanese punk band. lol

THEY'RE IGNOREING JAPANESE PUNK AGAIN. gonk ALONG WITH ANYTHING BUT THE MOST TRANNY OF VISUAL.

The worst part is I KNOW who some of these people are. Just by knowing who's behind this is enough to tell me exactly what kind of trash this magazine is going to give me. I only wish I had known earlier. stressed

I think any means to inform the general public of Japanese music is a good thing, however... after reading the introduction to jrock magazine I wondered why they would choose to pick that sort of an angle to open their magazine.

Anyway, overall it wasn't too bad, but I think what they are trying to do is focus on the bands and artists that are popular in the states and/or have had a US performance.

So, what you're saying is that they're pimping all the bands that EVERYBODY ALREADY KNOWS ABOUT. What's the point in that. There's no draw in old news.

who is funding the magazine? is it a organization that would have the means to genuinely put out a worthwhile publication or is it some small fan run thing that just wants to make some money and hype up what they like>?
PostPosted: Tue Apr 18, 2006 3:50 pm

Probably the latter. I figure they're using profits from the (godawful) book to fund this (godawful) magazine.

hmm reading the blurb it seems like the book and I guess the magazine as well would only really be good for introducing people to the most popular names or wet their appetite or so, so in that sense I dunno if it would qualify as "god awful" as it would serve a purpose to at least be an introductory resource, though probably very skewed to the mainstream names among fans. Which I guess everyone who gets into j rock in some form goes through the period of being immersed in the same material and names that we all were exposed to.

Its still a shame there isnt a domestic magazine or publication that really digs deeper for those who have been into j rock for a while longer.

How could this be used for any introductory purpose when they're giving it to already existing fans, and talking about the SAME bands EVERYBODY has heard of. =

Well it could be used as introductary material if it were marketed differently and targeting those who dont know all that much and have an interest in learning, for lack of a better term, the basics? So basically theyre giving it to the wrong people and it should be targeting those that dont know these bands.

I think part of the problem is its easier to publish something about the same group of bands and claim it as a good resource for j rock fans rather than, well, do some work, dig around and find something new worth talking about.
