Sanguina: Mistakes about Norse mytology in general just makes me cringe :/ I mean I come from Denmark, most of the myths about the Norse deities are something we learn in FREAKIN' ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!!! (They almost forced it down our throats really) So I really want to strangle someone whenever they start saying stuff like that. As you said, check an encyclopaedia, it's really not that hard at all.

Someone beat me to posting Spellsandmagic.com. The Wiccan Way is a good example of why it should be on the list.

Question, what about using personal symbolism rather than symbolism used by others? I find words and systems of elements work better for me if their personal, although I certainly would be straightforward about that if I was sharing them.

Christ. The Pagan hangout in the NaNoWriMo forums is just horrifying. I read these peoples' introduction posts with my mouth literally hanging open in shock.

WHAT. THE. ********, today, I was in a Christian guild and someone said: Quote: "The earth MAY BE 10,000 years old, IF that. If the earth was any older, the grand canyon (which took about 3,000 years to become that deep bacuse its sand, water can EASLY move sand, which is why it's still expandens.) would have reached WAY past the center of the earth. Scientists say the grand canyon is MILLIONS of years old because of whay the sand "says". There's no way. " ....which doesn't even MAKE SENSE, I mean, "WAY past the center of the earth"? Way PAST the center of the earth. HOW. HOW DOES EROSION MANAGE TO TRUMP THE FORCES OF GRAVITY. HOW IS THIS EVEN REMOTELY CONSIDERED PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE. But then guess what happened! I was happily flouncing around the internet AND I CAME UPON THIS...... Caps lock cannot adequately express my rage.

Jordan StratfordFor anyone seeking Gnosticism, he is someone I would advise to stay away from. Even if you ignore his bad history and sketchy at best, you can't escape the fact that he is a culture rapist in his misappropriation of Wicca.

Thorns and Spices But then guess what happened! I was happily flouncing around the internet AND I CAME UPON THIS...... Caps lock cannot adequately express my rage. While there is, obviously, nothing in the mythologies to support my intuition in this...If one has to make that statement, it really says a lot. UPG is all fine and good, but still... xd

Thorns and Spices WHAT. THE. ******** happily flouncing around the internet AND I CAME UPON THIS...... Caps lock cannot adequately express my rage. Um...Where did they get some of thier info? They make a lot of claims about the lore that I've never heard of before. And I love how they refer to the Vanic Goddesses. Plural. As far as I'm aware, there's only one living in Asgard.

As far as I'm aware, there's only one living in Asgard. They appear to have just made it up. But it MUST be true anyway because otherwise the gods wouldn't have let him think of it. Also Heathens are clearly evil because they support the cowardly and violent Aesir while Wiccans, who totally worship Jotnar and Vanir now, for some reason, are the good and peaceful ones. So when a Heathen disagrees it's only because he's finally outed them for the evil people they are. stare I HAVE RAGE OF THE BROOKLYN VARIETY.

burning_eyes gonk scream gonk stressed I just stumbled across this site. Aside from the atrocious site design, it's just chocked full of bad information. I've only read the page on the Vanir and it's making me twitch. I couldn't bring myself to examine the rest of his topics. What's sort of horrifying is that he (apparently) actually read a bunch of the lore and has some good source material but he got so much of the really important stuff wrong. He mentions mutiple times that Frey and Freyja had an incestuous relationship before coming to Asgard. Once again, I don't know where people come up with this idea! Here's his entry on Gullvieg. Quote: Gullveig was a Vanir goddess. Gullveig was probably the goddess of healing. Gullveig was a goddess with a great fondness for gold. Her constant chatter about gold irritated the Aesir gods. Gullveig was assaulted in the hall of Odin. She was tortured: repeatedly pierced by spears, and burnt three times in a great fire. Each time, she was reborn. The Vanir demanded reparation from the Aesir for the torture of Gullveig: the Vanir wanted the same status and privilege as the Aesir. The Aesir refused, and war broke out between the two races of gods. The war of Aesir and the Vanir, lasted for 10 years, before the Aesir agreed to the Vanir's terms. From the fire, Gullveig was reborn as a witch (fordoeda) named Heid ("Bright One"), who practised witchcraft known as seiðr. The dual goddess Gullveig/Heid was sometimes confused with Freyja, who also practised the disreputable kind of magic, seiðr, and her love for gold. Goddess of healing? What? What?!? Where did that idea come from? And they didn't try to kill her THREE times just because they were annoyed by her chatter. And the war started over the Vanir's demand that the Aesir pay weregild for Gullvieg's mistreatment, not over equal rights. And just how is seidr a "disreputable magic"? What?!?! As for his entry on Freyja, I'm just going to stay away from most of that and stick with pointing out that Dis is not the "Norse word for goddess". That is not what the Disir are. Twit. Were we reading the same books? Where did he come up with this crap? I HAVE FURY!!!!

They got most of the names right but not the spirit. It's very whitewashed and light and fluffy, despite the website being called "Dark Goddess". This section from the end of it sums things up nicely I think. Quote: Freyja's colors are green, red, and black. All animals are sacred to Freyja, but the horse, falcon and cat hold special affinity for Her - in fact She is often known as Mistress of Cats. Her number is 13 and Her day of the week is Friday. She is associated most often with the full moons of September - which is often called The Harvest Moon - and October - called the Blood Moon. Celebrations in her honor are celebrated on January 10th as The Day of Freyja, and on the full moon of October as The Disirblot. Freyja is a good Goddess to call on in magick concerning love, beauty, sexual activity, childbirth, enchantments, trance, runes, personal power, protection and courage. It's basically fluffy nonsense. Why would you associate her with horses? And yes, she has many names, but "Mistress of Cats" isn't one I've come across much at all, if ever. The number 13 and the full moon stuff is fluffy wicclett junk and has no place in Norse practice. Also, I'd go to the more mothering Frigg for anything to with childbirth and if you want runes, you go to Odin. I know the person who made this site is obviously not a Heathen but they're misrepresenting and misunderstanding the goddesses of my path. I'm all for ecclectics. Many of my best friends have an ecclectic path, but you need to have respect for the cultures you draw from. Anyway, if you don't know much about the Norse goddesses (she also misunderstands Skadi and Hel) then you could try picking one of the other "dark goddesses" from the list at the top of the page, one that you're more familiar with, to evaluate. I also found her page of sources. That explains a lot. At least there's no Ravenwolf. They actually use Brian Froud as a source. What? He's an artist and fairie enthusiast who's books are meant as entertainment, not spiritual guidance. Brian Froud's Goblins (used as a source for another part of the site) is wonderful fun. However, it has nothing to do with paganism or spiritual reality. Also, there's a distinct lack of male deities on this site.

Both of the sites I just posted were found by the same google search for Freyja, which is why I was making that statement earlier.
And may I ask what caused the stronger reaction on the end of your post there?
