Lymeric was drinking in the information like a sponge.

"I'm not really sure," she told Pi. "We were ambushed and I couldn't think about much besides escaping. There might have been ten, might have been fifty. They were all over the place. I barely got away alive."

"Seemed like fifty? Then there was probably only twenty or twenty five. I can scry to find out. Ah, here we are." Pi opens up the disguised door. She conjures a mage light so Lymeric can see down the stairs to the real door. "Watch your step."

A hidden door. a conjured light. This was almost too much for Lymeric. Magic scared her. In a battlefield, she was a master swordswoman and martial artist. But magic was a whole different matter. In hand-to-hand, the worst that could happen was that you could be killed. But with magic there was no telling what could happen.

"I'm sorry. I am unfamiliar with magic. Where I come from, the only magic around was that of the unicorns. I don't know any spells of have any magic powers. I don't know if I could defend myself in combat with so many."

((er, the door was hidden my physical means...not magical sweatdrop ))

"You shouldn't have to worry too much about that. The only inherent magic a Drow has is faerie fire, which does no harm, globe of darkness, which blocks out all light, and levitaiton. I should be the only one that has any other magic, but the scrying will tell for certain." Pi motioned for her to go down the stairs.

((I realize that about the door, but it still weirded Lymeric out. She knows so little about magic that she thought it was.))

Lymeric ducks so as not to hit her head as she enters through the doorway.

"I'm sorry, but what is 'scrying'," she asks.

((Oh, okaies! I'll see about drumming up some help from the good guys. ^_^))

"Scrying is a small magic spell that allows me to find something or someone. There are several ways to scry, but I am going to use the water in a bowl method." Pi makes sure that the outer door is secure, then heads down to the inner door, behind Lymeric.

Lymeric gets excited from hearing this.

"So can you find my friend and see if he's alright?" she asked.

"It is quite possible. Let's go to my room and get set up." Pi has the magelight follow Lymeric so she can see where she is going.

As Lymeric descends the stairs, she could feel the walls closing in on her. She hated being in small, dark, closed-in spaces. But she knows she has no choice, and swallows her fears the best she can. She reaches a small room. The only light source comes from the magelight provided by Pi. She looks around as best she can.

"You haven't lived here long, have you?" Lymeric said.

Pi expands the magelight so it takes up the whole ceiling, which lights up the whole room. "Actually, I just made this all today. Um..have a seat on the bedroll, that's probably the most comfortable place. Now, I need to make a bowl..." Pi begins shifting thru the wood she had gathered earlier for a piece of ash or pine. "Now, this is going to require a bit of magic, but don't worry, I know exactly what I am doing."

"Sure, okay," Lymeric says as she sits on the bedroll. She was all eyes now, watching Pi with utter interest. She had never actually seen a person use magic for any domestic purposes.

Pi takes a good piece of ash, holds it in her hand, closes her eyes, concentraits, and slowly the wood molds itself into a wide, somewhat shallow bowl. With here eyes still closed, she takes her finger-which is now glowing red-and traces runes around the edge of the bowl. When she is finished, she pours water until it is about a half inch away from the brim. The rest of the water she pours in the cold side of her cistern.
"Do you happen to have any of your friend's hair on you? It would make the scrying a little easier."

It took a second for Lymeric to pull herself out of her amazement. "Hair? Why would I have any of his hair?" she thought. Then she remembered.

"Oh, yeah. I used a strand of hair from his mane to make a strap for one of my scabbards after the original one broke. His mane and tail hair are as stong as ropes. But do we really have to use it? It's very dear to me. And if anything happens to him, it'll be all I have left," Lymeric said almost pleading.

"All I need is a little piece of it. It helps make the scrying go faster because like will call to like." Pi says in a kindly tone. "If you friend is captured by the Drow, most likely they will make a slave of him, and all we have to do is rescue him."

Lymeric untied one end of the hair from the scabbard. She took one of her swords out and, with a little difficulty, cut a piece off and handed it to Pi. Then she retied her makeshift strap back into place.

Lymeric found little comfort in Pi's words. She tried to imagine Auron in his youth, playing with the other unicorn colts in the valley near her home. She imagined how beautiful and enchanting the sight it must have been. Then she pictured him being shackled and tortured by those horrible monsters. Oh, but if he were alive, she could save him from all that.

"Auron used to be a unicorn, you know," she told Pi. It was only fitting that Pi knew just how special Auron was. That he was not just another horse.
