Oh, by the way Kitoku Hime the Enchanted Tiki Room is reopening from its extensive refurb (more of a complete rebuild actually) the week youre at the park. You might want to check that out since we're (Disneyland) still playing the original tiki show. Its a definate must see if you havent seen it before they converted the WDW show to the "Under New Management" tiki show.

They practically rebuilt the whole building and the juice bar out front. The entrance courtyard is totally redone and the show is getting updated animatronic birds, plants, and tikis, so yes its quite an extensive rebuild. The audio system and speakers were replaced a couple years ago so thats remaining the same. The building also recieved better sound proofing. I would consider it a rebuild since the building was gutted and most of the exterior and the whole roof was replaced. Im too glad theyre still showing the original show and that theyre not bring back the Offenbach segment.

I can't stand the 'under new management' show, and I miss the original tiki room very, very, VERY much! whee I'm so happy to hear it still survives out there! Wait till I tell the rest of the people I'm going with, they'll flip! I am glad that they updated the bird animatronics, though, because if I recall their movements were pretty jerky, back in the day, and the audio was kind of poor. your Buzz ride is like Tokyo's, you say? That might be worth checking out. Can't wait to see that either.

Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters officially opened today! whee
The first time we rode on it, I got a measly 11k points. crying The second time was significantly better. 88k! I hope to break 100k next time. biggrin (The highest possible points is 999,999.)
Oh a side note, it was really weird seeing Tomorrowland so crowded. I haven't seen it like this in a long time. eek

oh boy...this is gonna be long.
Kit's take on Disneyland:
Okay, to start with: for every ride that exists in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World...you guys's ride kicks our ride's butt. Except for Splash Mountain. And Possibly Winnie the Pooh. I was amazed at how much more detailed things are out there--even the queue lines are themed and interesting! Our Peter Pan ride, for example, pales in comparison to yours. I did still like our Small World better, but yours still rocked, and it's just a matter of personal opinion.
Haha, I didn't mean to turn this trip into an us vs. them, but alas, that was the way I kept thinking about it!
Disneyland was like...a weird dream. Did you ever have a dream where, like, there were actors playing your best friends or something? Or, you knew the place you were in was supposed to be a certain place, but it looked completely different than it did in real life? That was Disneyland for me. I was on Main Street, but the shops were in the wrong order; I was riding a ride I knew but the details were different. It was very surreal. I knew it was Disney, but it didn't quite feel right...it also weirded me out how close the city was to the park! From my hotel window, I could see Grizzly mountain, the sunburst ferris wheel...and beyond that, the plain old city! Orlando culture shock, I guess.
I was amazed to go to a character dinner and see both 'face' and 'fur' characters come to my table. I got to see some characters that are really difficult to find in Orlando! It blew my mind to see face characters in places where, in Orlando, they only bother to place a fur character. It seems like In Florida, we hoard the face characters like a precious commodity, and hide them for only the worthy to find. Imagine my surprise when I saw Alice, Hatter, Queen of Hearts, and both Tweedles wandering around in front of the castle, acting silly--and everyone just enjoyed their presence! In Orlando, they immediately would have been bombarded with people clamoring for autographs, but the Disneyland-goers just let them have fun. That never would have happened in Orlando! I also noticed *nervous twitch* that I saw very few people fulfilling my position of character bodyguard. Seems they're unnecessary out there, since people seemed to respect the characters a lot more.
Buzz Lightyear was AWESOME! Again, way cooler than Orlando's. We rode it opening day, and my friend Stan got on the top ten list with over 400,000 points. 'Cuz he's a weird video game spaz like that.
I loved the matterhorn, and California Screamin', and I LOVED seeing Main Street Electrical parade again for the first time in about ten years! Same with Mr. Toad--we don't have that one any more! My absolute FAVORITE rides out there...one of them was Indiana Jones. That was beyond cool! I loved doing all the different variations.
Soarin' has now become my favorite thing in all of Disney-dom. And--it pains me to say this--it even beats Philharmagic as my new favorite Disney thing ever.
Oh yeah--and Fantasmic? Peter Pan battle on the pirate ship? Rocked my socks. Totally awesome.
sweatdrop redface As always, sorry for the long post, guys... just got off the plane, and I'm still on a high...

yeah, with the characters just enjoyiong themselves, it is nice to wacth at times..no billions of kids bombarding them like you said. last time i went there, about 3, 4 months ago. all of the wonderland characeters ((including the queen of hearts)) were near the matterhorn. playing "Red Rover" with various children. "auhh, thats nice" i thought. they even kept in character as teh queen of hearts would randomly kick one of the tweedle's in the behind for no reason..haha. i still want to go to WDW sometime in my life. but im glad you had a good time
oh..OH! you have to tell me what the WDW haunted mansion is like in comparison. please?! whee i want to go to WDW's masion SO bad

biggrin Like I said, I think your mansion is better. At WDW, the mansion is more New England Victorian than the southern style one that you guys have. lots of towers and spires and stuff. the first thing you walk into is a lobby, the focus of which is a single portrait. It starts off as a young man, but as you watch, the portrait slowly ages, until you are looking at a decayed skeleton. From there, you go into the stretching room (exactly the same, except that in ours the ceiling rises instead of the floor lowering) and then board the doom buggies.
Instead of walking through the hallway with the portraits and the marble busts, you ride past them in the buggies. Only ours don't have that cool lightning effect that yours do, the portraits' eyes just follow you. Then you go past a deserted library where a ghost is playing the piano and up a spiderwebby staircase before you get to the rest of the mansion.
From there, it's pretty much the same--Madame Leota's head is set on the table instead of floating, the ugly pop-up heads in the attic just shriek at you instead of saying 'I do,' and those creepy twisted trees that look like they have faces are not present in our graveyard. The only other really major difference is that the very last ghost--the woman that says, 'hurry back, hurry back'--you're still in the doom buggy when you ride past her, instead of walking past her. Overall, we're missing a lot of the really cool effects that your mansion has.

Glad to hear that you had a great time. And im totally jealous of your friends score on buzz. Mine wasnt even close to his. gonk One day ill get that... one day.... crying
By the way, did you guys get a chance to email your buzz scores back home?
I heard that your Soarin' is opening soon, im glad you got to experiance ours. i heard that you guys will be getting the same movie for the mean time.
I agree that your splash is better than ours too. Yours is brighter inside and i like the side by side seating for your logs.
