Jean whistled shrilly between her teeth and at a surprising volume. The note carried at least to the adjacent streets and a few guards came into view, scruffling and running towards her call to arms. "To me!" She shouted over the crowd and a few cries of surprise rang out as townsfolk pushed and shoved each other to flee out of the way and into alleys or side streets.

"Get them!" She pointed out the two boys atop the roof, unaware of the girl and pup accompanying them. "They are thieves!" Her french accent was becoming more pronounced as she grew riled. She made it across the street in three deep strides and was already half way up a scaffold by the time the other half a dozen or so guards had made their appearance at the base of the building she was scaling.

Jean snarled at the boy's impudent mockery of her uniform and swung up to grab a window ledge just a few feet below their vantage point.

Cain's ears lifted and he yipped once. Lyra heard it, and cursed. "Damn...now look what you did." Lyra shook her head with a roll of her eyes. Cain ran to the ledge to growl at the guard scaling up to them. Lyra made a clicking sound, and Cain lowered his ears and ran back to her. "Now that she's coming, what are you going to do now?" She asked. She was up here too, and if the guard spotted her here, she was part of it too, though she really didn't care much about it.

Jake sighed. "Wow. This one here might match up to you, 'pup." he smirked at Luke. "Uh.. You hide." he sheepishly smiled.

Luke stuck his tongue out. "Ohh.. One got up." he warned. The guard ran up and lunged at the two, Luke first. He bent down and disarmed the guard. "She's gonna be a problem. These guys are strong." he frowned.

Jean had noticed a dog up there with them that she'd seen peek over the edge when she glanced up for her next hand hold. How it had gotten up there was a mystery to her.

She could hear one guard's unfortunate tumble and clash as he lost his sword. She reached over a ledge and pulled herself upright. She glanced at the guard who'd been disarmed and yelled at him. "You idiot! You'd let yourself be beat by a group of little boys?" She'd noticed Lyra there but had mistaken her for a small-ish boy from the shortness of her hair. She gestured widely at the trio and a guard that had been on a neighboring building's roof took aim with his bow at Jake.

The Lieutenant pulled another man up by the collar of his shirt as the guard was trying to pry his sword free of its sheath and clamber up onto the ledge simultaneously.

That only made herself and two other guards on this roof with one archer to flank them. She was assessing the situation and hoped that the children would come quietly to pay for their crime.

"You have stolen from that man down there." She pointed to the street below. "We will not outright attack a bunch of children, but you will pay the price for this theft." She pointed specifically at Luke who'd been the culprit. "Your right hand for a loaf of bread. That would even be generous since you stole two loaves and should rightly lose both your hands..."

She glared icily at the rag tag crew. She was not so merciless at heart, even having a soft spot for children most days, but she would have them obey the law and strictly administer their punishment as per her vow to the City Guard.

{ Laws back then were so gruesomely unfair, no? They were mostly based on the poorly reasoned theory of 'an eye for an eye'. The punishment for theft was to have your hand cut off, whether you be man, woman, or child. sad }

((I remember learning that somewhere...))

Lyra frowned. "Little boys? Well, how rude." Cain jumped up into her arms as she placed the dog in her bag. She had nothing to do with stealing from the man, but she was already aware she was guilty by association. Her hands behind her back as she put the pack back on her back, she attached the claw hanging from her belt to her other hand. She stepped back so she was next to Jake. "What now? I'm not losing my hand for something I didn't do..." She said quietly to him. She kept her right hand near her pocket, where her dart blower was and loaded.

Luke smirked. "My hand? Why of course, miss.. I do deserve it." he said dangerously nicely. Jake knew this plan. He held out his hand to a guard, flicking his wrist quickly. The guard blinked, and hesitantly drew his sword. He drew it, raised it up, closed one eye, and slashed it down. The shock and repel grew back into the guard so much, he was speechless. He went back as Luke went to his knees. "Owwwwww!!" he yelled in pain. The blade slightly impaled his palm about 2 centimeters thick, blood slowly dripping out from his sleeve. He held his hand against his chest, covering it it. The act continued as he fell to his side as the guard, probably a new one, watched in horror. "Ow.. It hurts!!.... Not." he smirked as the guards came near, spinning on his head and his wrists, knocking both guards down by spreading his legs, over the ledge. He stood back up and stood calmly in front of Jean. "Would you rather I pay in gold? That is of course, the whole bag. Don't you agree that sounds like a lot?" he asked casually, reaching into the pouch that hung on his hip, shaking it, the sound of gold coins heard.

Jake was blank as he stood still. "If it works, you try this.." he mumbled with a wide grin. He hopped over to the guard who kept his bow steady to Jake's head. "I'm very sorry for my brother's actions.. Please take my sword as an apology." he said sadly, going onto his knees and bowing his head. The teen removed his sword and offered it to the guard, then kept his hands to his sides. His right hand remained on top of the boot that had a hidden knife in it. The guard stood blankly in spot.

Jean did not enjoy this taunting one bit. "The entire hand." She snarled. A more hesitant guard would've simply had him pay the shopkeep he'd stolen from but punishment was demanded by law. Full punishment. "You mock me, boy?" She spat at his feet and drew a short sword from its sheath at her belt. Her lips were curled back in a sneer as she drew the sword back and made to grab the boy's bleeding hand, completely ignoring the bag of coins he dangled in front of her face.

The guard with his bow pointed at the boy hesitated, baffled by this one's offer and tempted to accept if not for how utterly scared he was of the lieutenant and what she might do to him should be disobey her orders. He unnotched his arrow and reached to take the boy's sword from him, throwing it away from them. It was then that he noticed the blade on the other one's forearm. "They have more weapons!" but it was already too late, he wouldn't have enough time to react and draw his bow from this minute distance. He fumbled with a small knife he pulled from his belt but it looked puny in his grip.

Two guards were on their backsides and quite disgruntled on the next story down, having been knocked not to the street below but to a lower rooftop, a distance of a good ten feet regardless. Only one of them had managed to draw their sword before they were knocked down by Luke's kicks. He had hit his head on the ledge and blood trickled into his eyes from a gash on his forhead. He was livid, a long sword gripped firmly in his right hand now as he staggered upright and began climbing back up to the thief. The other guard, the one who'd unsuccessfully hacked at Luke's hand had lost his sword in the process of falling and was still coping with what he'd been forced to do, his eyes unfocused and trained on the boy's maimed hand.

Jake looked up with a dark and entertained glint in his eyes, drawing the knife and crossing his arms. He winced at 5 or 6 cuts on his under arms, but otherwise he continued. He leapt foward going on for a full on headbutt, as he opened his arms he grabbed the guard's arms, lifting his leg up and kicking the guard, smacking the guard to the ground, keeping his foot on the chest of the guard. He grabbed the bow and arrows from him, then grabbed his sword. He kicked off the helmet, placing the blade at his throat. The guard shook his head furiously, taking the message. He scrambled off, probably searching for back up. "How do I work this?" he mumbled, fumbling around with it. Jumping over to Jean and Luke, Jake held the bow and aimed the arrow Jean's face.

Luke frowned. "Isn't it quite obvious, miss? Sadly, I write with both hands." he said, drawing his sword with his left. The teen remained blankly entertained, hiding the slight pain. Luke stared at the guard. "I wonder who will get to what first.. That arrow to your head, or that blade into my hand?" he taunted. "HYYAAAH!" The guard yellled as he finally got up, recklessly running toward Luke from behind. Crimson eyes turned as the sword nearly hit him. He raised his left arm up, keeping his right arm locked with Jean, spinning and using his left foot to kick the guard over, knocking him out. The situation remained the same.

"You'd shoot me? Ahaaha!" Jean threw her head back and laughed. She kept a firm grip on Lukes injured hand. She did not need a sword to counter these fools feeble fighting tactics. While he was distacted, she spun and wrenched his injured arm up behind him while wheeling the boy in front of the arrows trajectory. "Then you may shoot your friend first." She grinned maniacally. Even with his sword drawn, Luke wouldn't be able to slice her through her armor let alone forcus much for the pain most assuredly coursing through his injured limb.

Meanwhile the other guard, the same who'd nearly relieved Juke of his hand, was now clambering onto the roof. He looked about, dumbfounded that his fellow guards were all passed out. He saw the bow pointed at his lieuteneant and dove forward, reaching out for the bow.

The other two guards remained unconscious while shouts could be heard below as more guards had heard and seen the commotion and come running.

{O_o Damn, I'd been trying so long to make a character that wouldn't go soft on me and now I've created a french monster. She didn't start off so reckless, just developed on her own.}

((Looks like my abscence created an opportunity for Lyra wink ))

What a mistake to forget you have a third opponent...Lyra thought as she slipped out of sight of hte busy guards as Jake and Luke kept them busy. She took out her dart blower and knocked out two guards behind Jean with a special concoction she'd made to knock out her targets momentarily. They dropped their weapons and fell forward. When Jean grabbed Luke and held him still, she made her move. She was behind Jean, left hand lifted so ehr claw's blades pressed lightly against the skin of the front of Jean's neck. "Why not just forget this whole mess for once, and let us go? Then you don't have to worry about us saying you were outsmarted by a few kids?"

I Zero hurridly pushed aside a few members of the crowd, gaining some nasty looks from passerby. She ignored this, continuing briskly on her way into the city. She turned to the left, coming upon a short street of houses and vendors. At the street's end, warm light glowed from small hut's windows. Zero sniffed. The rich, meaty smell of stew wafted in the cool air. The door creaked open and she stepped inside, shaking dust away from her Creed garb. The stew was bubbling, filled with chunked red meat. She quickly slid it off the fire spit and ladled some of the contents into a small bowl, dropping back in to a chair as she did so. She was always tired after an assassination. Not a physical tiredness, but something else... She quickly ate a few spoonfuls of stew and sighed. I wonder if Saqr has gotten any assignments like he wanted.

Jean hissed between her teeth. What a situation to get herself into. How did a motley crew of juvenile thieves best half a dozen guards?

She frowned and pushed Luke away from her forcefully. She hoped he'd stumble and fall on his face. Her brown eyes were narrowed dangerously.

She'd somewhat forgotten there were three or rather had thought her guards could, for once, handle a situation. The Lieutenant could feel the cold metal at the soft skin of her throat.

"Bunch of brats. You steal from a busy marketplace and think you can get away unscathed. You live in a city where you have no power, never will, and scrape by day by day on empty stomachs and pilfered pocket change." She would have spat on them to emphasize her insult in not for the blade pressed to her throat. "For the transgressions of today, including but not limited to theft, tresspassing, attacking guards and resisting the law, you will be someday paid back in full. Go on yur way, but if any of my guards or myself see your likes again, you will not live to see another day." She wrinkled her nose in distaste, she was thinking of how filthy the blade must be and wondering if she could get an infection simply for it pressed to her skin.

The assemblage of unconscious guards atop the roof was quite conspicuous by now and more alarms were being tolled in the adjoining streets. Guards a few rooftops over were casting their gaze towards the whole mess and making their way over carefully, bows drawn.

{Hoo, she's gonna be sooo bitter after this. Sucks to be anyone in this situation though I feel worst for the guard who has to deal with the fact that he maimed a teenager today...}

((I'd bet anyone would be bitter after that, lol. Poor guard...this will all maek it very interesting when I make a mission for my freelancer to track down Lyra, Luke, and Jake XD))

Lyra backed off, detaching the claw and hanging it on her belt. "How did I get myself wrapped up in this mess?" She sighed shaking her head. She spotted the guards in the dsitance and looked at the brothers. She lifted a hand and winked. "I should be heading off now. I'm sure we'll run into each other again." She gave the female guard a grin as she took off running, gaining enough momentum to jump from the roof to the next roof over, opposite from the direction the guards were. She grabbed onto the ledges of the roof and pulled herself onto the roof, taking her leave from the scene.

Luke stumbled but regained his balance calmly, blinking. He smoothed out his trousers with his hands, glancing up at Jean. "Well.. Wouldn't we like to see you fight one on one, next time, miss?" he smirked.

Jake also smirked, the scar under his eye moving. A flicker of hatred was shown in his eyes, but they were mostly filled with entertainment. Jake threw down the bow and arrow, and the two jumped from roof to roof. 'H-Hey! Wait!' the guards with arrows yelled, panicking as they went of to Jean. 'D-Do we follow them?' they asked in unison.

The two left with smiles."That was quite fun." Luke stated before he left, dropping the pouch of money. "It actually was. Guard where we used to be were weak. This lady depends way to much on her subordinates.." he purposely said loudly, causing the two to laugh as they jumped down to the streets, walking calmly down the busy paths.

Tak roamed the streets. Her mission was only in Damascus, why, she wasn't sure. The thieves were mobile targets, makign it a challenge, but the freelancer would try anyway. Her cloak still hid her face and sword on her back, while her crossbow now hung a little bit out of her cloak, though it didn't matter. She saw one of the thieves, Lyra, earlier. She knew who that girl was, having run into her once before. What kind of trouble is hse in now? And who are the two others I have to catch? If she found Lyra, she'd find out who the others were. She also wanted to find Jean, who should be able to profile them for her so she can find them.

Cain was let out of the bag when Lyra reached a dark alleyway far from the guards. They were all busy with the situation back there, so she found this chance to buy her supplies with her newly aqcuired money. Cain hopped up into her arms and she walked out to a man selling food. She grabbed just enough to last, adn also a washcloth for her to use. She headed back to the alleyway and sat against the wall, placing the bag of supplies in her pack. She had some water in a container, which she used to pour a bit on the cloth, and cleaned her hands an claws with it. Now they'll be looking for me...guess I should've expected that much.
