I am on blue moon still because I"ve been so busy with my uncle justin here and all the stuff we've done this weekend not to mention the HUGE workload of homework xd but no worries I'll have it finished by tonight wink

I read all nine boks this year, and I enjoyed them quite a bit. The tone is very different from any other vampire/paranormal books I've read, and I think it works well.

Rune Wynn okay the end of Blue Moon pissed me off. anyways you still on Dead to the World? Unfortunately, due to work I am still on Dead to the World, yes. But I am past half way through now, and I have a couple of days off work to read as well! >< Eric is ADORABLE in this novel. I don't want him to get his memory back razz

clovereffect I read all nine boks this year, and I enjoyed them quite a bit. The tone is very different from any other vampire/paranormal books I've read, and I think it works well. I agree, the tone and the style is all quite different to other books of the same genre that I've read, but it does work incredibly well. She has a very interesting take on Vampires as well (and other such mythical creatures - I have to say, I loved the Maenad!)

Just getting to the end of Dead to the World (I finally have some spare time to read!) and I can't help but notice the similarity is bares to the final Twilight book.
Sookie and Eric have just turned up at Pam and Chow's house and there's a load of Supes there ready to fight to the death with the Hallow's Coven.
Doesn't that seem a little similar to all the foreign Vampires turning up for Bella, Edward and Renesmee?
As much as I find Twilight a guilty pleasure, and I like Meyer's writing, I don't think she was entirely original on that one.

yeah there's a lot of stuff going around that Meyers basically plagiarized this other author when it came to her final book. I have to say that though Vampire's combining efforts really isn't an original thing, but it does have its similarities i suppose.
though there are moments in this series that I was like...wait...didn't Edward say the exact same thing? or 'didn't this happen in one of the twilight books?'
i really don't think Meyers was that original with the storyline as it was, but hey that's just my thoughts.
anyways i saw the image of your bookshelf w/ the books on 'em. at first i was confused about the spines because you've got the Trueblood version of the covers since the shows been out and i've got the smaller older version of the covers. took me a second there ^^
In Dead to the World I love the ending of it...well the after the battle part when Eric and sookie go home. spoilers in white in case you haven't gotten there yet but i was so happy to see Debbie blown away. she was beyond annoying to me.

Name almost anything, and you can trace similar ideas back until it fades into oral legend. It's all about the presentation, and plagiarism generally only deals with using someone else's text directly, not ideas. In fact, as a writer, I've had some brain flashes about great story ideas, only to find a very similar idea in a fifty year-old book.

I think you have a fair point, that the majority of literature is not entirely original; it's the same with art, 95% is made of stolen ideas. Or so my Partner informs me smile It was just the way that the scenes are both structured, and the way they are presented, among other things, that makes it so incredibly similar. Charlaine Harris is a far superior writer, though, so obviously it's leagues ahead with Sookie and her gang.

i know i was cheering when i got to that part! it was just wonderful to see it happen in my mind. damn now i'm feeling the need to read the whole series over again!! razz
Now you see why i love Pam. She was funny in this book. It was great to mentalily see her kick down the door with such zest. the next book is pretty good too. not my favorite, as it felt a bit more of a filler to me, but you learn some good stuff in it. it's in Definitely Dead that stuff picks back up and really gets going.
I'm thinking about reading some of her side stories for the series, like the Sookie-universe stories (w/o sookie) but just haven't gotten around to it yet. some are just sitting around the computer unread yet.

Thank you for all that wonderful information on Sookieverse 3nodding I think I may get the book when it comes out next month and read that. I'd heard about the book, but I thought it was a compilation of the sookie books so far, not short stories. That makes me a lot happier smile

I am too cheap to buy it, but I hope to be able to get A Touch of Dead from my library as soon as it comes out. My library is awesome...they get several copies of new releases by popular authors (including the most recent Sookie book).
