Ya know, Reeves.
That fact that I only have to beat everyone besides the mods to actaully claim a prize (though with minimal bragging rights) is somewhat uplifting.
I'll enter something soon.
Though my old comp has all my little tid-bits of writing attempts.
But this does bring something to mind.
We should have a short story contest!
Maybe something along the lines of 5 pages, just something small, nothing too elaborate.
Sometime soon after this contest.
^^;;
Though this suggestion really belongs in the Contest Thread, or something.

Everyone's poems are so awesome.
I've never been much of a poet or writer myself. My talent lies in drawing more or less. sweatdrop
But who knows, I might try and at least throw something together. I won't make any promises though =P

Though this suggestion really belongs in the Contest Thread, or something. Yes, you might as well put it in the Contest thread. cool But a short story one sounds great. That one will definitely be more difficult for me.

And maybe I'll have a chance to best you in it! ^^
Hurrah!
Ahem, anyway.
Also, I have reduced the red eye and cropped the images I spoke of earlier.
Now I just have to pick out 3 or 4 to actually use.
Decisions, decisions...

Mine doesn't exactly fit the rules, as it's 14 lines, not 16. However, it is a sonnet, so it's not allowed to be any longer. It doesn't exactly fit iambic pentameter either, and the rhymes a bit dodgy (like in most sonnets), but it'll do.
A Barely Known Sonnet pirate
Barely known, new and confused, wandering lone I had no friends, no gold, no fishing skills The n00bs in the GD made me feel ill What could I do but grumble and moan So idly across the world map I'd roam Searching for items my inventory to fill Desperately wasting the time I had to kill Then came a Guild invite - to the Barely Knowns
I read the description, it pleased my mind Finally a place for people just like me So glad I'd been thought worthy to come inside Thanks for the invite, mysterious Reeves For here are great people, smart, literate and kind Overlooked but beautiful like autumn leaves
Edited for pirataceousness.

Oh, yes, I forgot that sonnets can only be 14 lines. Don't worry. I accept, Spatterdash. That was a damn good poem. And remember to put a pirate smiley by the poem you actually want to submit! 3nodding

I'm considering whether or not I should post my ballad. It's more than 32 lines and one of the best I've ever written, but you never know if someone will actually steal it... ninja

Kelti I'm considering whether or not I should post my ballad. It's more than 32 lines and one of the best I've ever written, but you never know if someone will actually steal it... ninja There's one poem I wanted to post, but the same exact reasons held me back. I think I'll have to put up a new rule, saying exceptions should be PMed to me to see if I can accept them.

sweatdrop A poem from sophmore year:
Childhood is the kingdom where there is no heartbreak. No one will take your hand and Then let you fall, leaving you to nurse your scrapes and bruises. No one will take your heart for a little while only to cast it aside later, leaving you to scramble around on your hands and knees to try to find it again in the dark. No one will tell you to jump unless there is someone there to catch you. No one will tell you to go and play only so that they can tell you later that you did it wrong- to play a different way and No one will break your heart in an attempt to mend their own because Childhood is the Kingdom where there is no heartbreak.

I miss the days when the biggest decision I had to make was what crayon to use, and there was never a wrong answer... That almost moved me to tears Siani...

That was terrific, Siani!
^^
I loved it.
The competition is growing.
Odds are, I'll just make a last minute entry so I can measure up all the other entries.

Ways of Rhythm by Belinda Roddie
I found a boy the other day, sitting on the docks He had his journal at his side, kept with fourteen locks Eyes set on the ocean His body gave no motion But he sang a melody with rhythm on the rocks
I tried to learn the awkward notes, but nothing could compare His voice was monstrous in his youth but fragile in his care Caught in lines that glistened For the one who listened He was finding conscience and the rhythm in the air
And the rhythm moved on To somebody else's song
I walked home in the bitter sun and sat down at my desk I wrote a song of mischief and I sang it at my best And the air was silent No wind growing violent The boy had woke the rhythm, and I had put it to rest
Later it would move on To somebody else's song
