Ok, I'm writing this as I watch:

I can't believe how innocent Sam is in this one! Such a change from season 4!!

But I've been thinking, Azazel puts a lot into this breaking the seals thing doesn't he? Getting the colt to open the gates, getting the soul of a righteous man into Hell so that the first seal can be broken, opening the gates so that Lillith can get out.

Tessa's words about soldiers too and Sam, I can see it all now, if Dean had not fought against leaving, the Winchesters would have all died, but maybe the apocalypse wouldn't have started.

Also, Reapers are afraid of demons...... I hadn't considered that before.

I miss innocent Sam with a passion! crying crying

This is why the YED was such an epic villain mastermind. Look at all the work he put into releasing Lucifer. Pure genius.

It's like Tessa knew what was coming all along... even in "Death take a holiday" she tried warning Dean about the apocalypse. She couldn't directly tell him but it's like she was trying to get him to just die already so the end of the world could be avoided confused

Well it's no wonder.... look how the demons treated reapers in "death take a holiday' lol. Demons mess everything up. Reapers, like angels, I think are like the warriors of fate. Demons do everything they can to mess up fate which is what makes them bad.

OK so I watched last night at 11 but I was sorta sleepy so I forgot all the thoughts I had. I'm watching it again now lol ><
Alright firstly... Sam kept hearing Dean. Several times he turned to where he was standing and he even quoted him once. I'm not sure if all that is because he could actually sense him, or if Sam just knew Dean so well that he just knew what he'd say and said it. But even after saying "Just find some hoodoo priest to lay some mojo on him" Sam made a face like 'wtf did I just say?' O.o
Just wondering if Sam could really hear him or not with the psychic stuff. John didn't seem to sense him at all and Dean was practically screaming at him confused

Secondly, looking at the wreck of what was left of the Impala, I'm thinking.... it's really unrealistic Dean fixed it in two weeks O______O
Just saying lol. My dad's a mechanic.. I know these things take a helluva lot of time... plus you can't exactly just walk into a auto shop and find parts for a 40 year old car.

Third, I agree with Garra, this was the episode that Dean started having doubts about hunting. It all started when Dean took his frustrations out on John. Poor Dean sad

fourth, Sam was really being hard on John I must say. I mean I can't blame him but in the end.... John had it all figured out to trade himself for Dean's life and yet Sam did nothing but believe John cared more about stopping the YED than saving Dean. Then again, so did Dean. They both were hard on John sad

fifth, for gods sakes, WHY didn't they think somethign weird was going on when the glass magically flew off the table? sorry, that's always bugged me lol.

Question... why didn't John set up ny devils traps when he called the YED? Seriously, he could have trapped him and his henchmen, and made him do whatever he wanted to save Dean, and THEN killed him. Happy ending lol. Or why didn't he go to the crssroads? John might have gotten at least another year or ten. Better deal than what he got confused
I know he said he didn't want to trap him... but wtf John seriously.

Hm... wonder what Dean would have chose to have done.... gone with the reaper or stayed. For some reason I imagine him staying and holding on, but i don't know why. Dean just strikes me as the 'I don't want to be a rest' sort of guy. He'd keep trying to fight even beyond the dead imo.

I wonder how long John has known about the children and Sam. In the Origins comics Lilith tried to kill Sam when he was just a kid and John was supposed to kill Sam when once he got back him back from Lilith but he couldn't do it. Makes me wonder if that is one of the few times the comics really connected with the show.

John died at 10:41..... 40 is the number for death remember? Cute Kripke, very cute wink

(since I don't feel like splitting up quotes today, I'm just going to use numbers to refer to paragraphs.)

1. I think it was probably part of his psychic thing, but maybe it was also a little bit because of his and Dean's bond. I mean, they were the only long term friends they had ever had, and as far as family goes, they were the only family that was constantly there (save for Sam's 2 years at college), what with John leaving them alone all the time to go on hunts. Not to mention all the crap they've gone through together, and trust me, going through hell with someone creates a very, very strong bond.

2. Hahaha. Plot hole much? This is what Kripke was referring to when he said that SPN fans are just too smart.

4. Yeah, they were both really hard on John, but then, can you blame them? First time I saw this episode, I was being really hard on John too. (Until the end, with Sam's last fight with John.) Of course, it does make me really sad seeing it now. Both brothers just thought their dad was doing his own thing and not caring about them, only to be proven wrong with no chance to ever apologize to their dad for thinking those things about him.

5. I think they thought something happened, but then they either forgot about it or just let it slide, which is still bogus. Of course, Dean did almost die again like a second after that happened, so it's possible they had more important things on their minds. . . .

6. That is a good point. I mean, John had to know about the devil's trap, right? Of course, that brings up the question of why he didn't use it in Salvation when he met Meg and cohort?
As for the crossroads thing, I'm guessing there probably weren't a lot of dirt crossroads close by, and John was really beat up. I mean, first time out of bed, he was in a wheel chair, and then he was limping down to the basement. Plus, going to search for a crossroad would mean leaving Dean for a longer time, and he had already almost died.

7. I agree, Dean is definitely not a rest in peace kind of guy. Or at least, he wasn't in season 2. I get the feeling that he might be getting closer now. Of course, if the world is in danger, Dean's not going to rest in peace even if he gets the chance, but afterwords, I think he might take the offer. But then again, maybe not. Dean got pretty feisty in the finale telling Cas that a perfect world is not worth the price of all that will be destroyed to get there. Maybe he'd still rather fight on 'til the end of time.

8. Oooo, that's a good question! Even if the comics were not cannon for that part, it's possible that John has known for a really long time. Hmmmm . . . . .
Of course, that's one question I doubt Kripke will ever answer on his own. gonk
Kripke needs to go to another convention so we can ask him about all this stuff.

9. Ha! I didn't even catch that! I did catch when they paged Doctor Kripke though. It made me giggle. whee

Ooo, that's a good point about the reapers being agents of fate and the demons just screwing with it.
Side note: As I was typing that, I just had a mental image of Cas walking through an office filled with cubicles with a large stack of papers in his hand and YED walking up to him, smacking the pile of papers down, sending them flying, then saying, "What up now?" xd

So...I watched the episode last night...and I have some thoughts about it.
Looks like you girls already mentioned mostly everything, but I'm gonna post anyway.
1: I was pretty sure that there wasn't much to laugh at in this episode, and I was only partly right. There was a Dr. Kripke in the hospital. xD I swear, when I heard his name being called over the intercom, I burst out laughing.
2:This episode truly reminded me how much I love the Winchester men. And I think I love all three of them even more after watching it again.
3: I liked how Sam sensed Dean's presence and even quoted what Dean said without knowing where the words came from. I wonder if Sam was able to do that because of his psychic powers, or because of their brotherly bond...
4: YED is one helluva demon! He's way too clever. His plans for everything were thought out so well. With Sam, John, the Colt, Lilith, Hell's gates... It's just scary to know that he knew EXACTLY what he was doing for decades.
5: Do Reapers have hearts? Cause Tessa sure looked like she had sympathy for Dean. And she was so sweet, explaining everything to him.
6: A mystical talking board? Honestly? rolleyes Why couldn't they just called it an Ouija board?
7:I cried for this episode. I seriously did, and I knew what was going to happen. Er...I just couldn't help myself. It was just a heartfelt episode and John's death...instantly brought tears to my eyes.
Well...I think that's it for now...

About number 6, I watched an interview with some of the writers where they actually talked about that and how they couldn't use "Ouija Board" because of trademark or copyright issues or something. Basically, they need permission to use that, and they didn't have permission, so they had to call it something else.

Yeah, that is kind of weird. I mean, they had to change all sorts of stuff, everything from the name to the designs on the box. Maybe the Ouija board people were just being douches.

9. Ha! I didn't even catch that! I did catch when they paged Doctor Kripke though. It made me giggle. whee

2. Yeah total plot hole lol. No way, I don't care what they say, NO WAY Dean could have fixed that mess. The metallicar was shot, believe me. The frame was GONE. You'd have to have had found a new one and moved all the old parts onto it which would have taken forever. Pretty much everything would have had to have been replaced, so the Impala isn't even the Impala anymore technically lol.

4. like i said, I don't blame them. jonh had done many selfish things

-Hey!-

BUT when it came down to life or death, he's always been willing to do what it takes to save his children.

5. True they might have gotten distracted by Dean almost dying afterwards.... but still! I mean glasses don't just fly around like that on their own lol. I would have been like '....Dean?'

6. I guess you're right about the crossroads plan. John barely had enough time to ave Dean... makes sense. But he really should have set up a couple of devils traps I mean sheesh. And you're right about Meg too, I mean they could have been trapped too if John had just thought rolleyes

7. That's exactl what made me think Dean will not rest in peace, that scene with Cas, him telling Cas that he could take that peace and shove up his a$$ lol. Dean won't rest as long as he knows people are in danger... people he could save if he could just be there for them. Until monsters and ghosts, demon and other evil are gone, I don't think Dean will ever rest peacefully sad

8. It would be an interesting question to as.... 'how long had John known abnout the children and is there any connection to the Origins comics where he as told Sam had to die?' because the whole thing really makes sense when you think about it (most of the stuff in the comics don't but this is one that actually matches up well)

9. LOL I heard that too. Paging Dr. Kripke! XDDDDDDD

1. The 'Swazy'd that mother' line always makes me giggle. Still my fav line to date XD
2. SO MUCH TO LOVE. Seriously, Dean IN PAJAMA PANTS AND A TEE *happy dance* And Sam was so dang cute, he whipped out the puppy eyes so many times I almost couldn't take it. And even John *cough * had his moment *whispers* am I the only one who thought John talking to the YED was hot? I always find the line 'I could always shoot you' hot for some reason sweatdrop o.o
3. i'm thinking both.
5. I think Tessa liked Dean and had pity on him because he had such a short life that was devoted to saving people. He was dying far too early but she had to do her job. She was being compassionate towards him. She even called him cute lol, loved that.

Okay I typed this while watching so it’s whatever I thought of at the time, but a bit edited.

~Huh wait, did Dean’s spirit wake up in another room from his body?~

~Lol “Find some hoodoo priest to lay some mojo on him” Funny how Sam totally picked up his brother’s words.~

~Man I totally forgot Bobby was even in this episode Ug we never got to see him and John in the same room.....~

~Thank goodness Sam still had faith in the Impala. He was right. If Dean had awaken and discovered they had sold his baby for scraps he would have been furious. But honestly that car was completely destroyed. I forgot how badly it was wrecked. Like Bobby said there was nothing left to salvage! How the heck did Dean save it in the first place?? ~

~Aww poor Dean. It had to be frustrating for him sitting there thinking John was gonna stand around and do nothing. Nobody had faith in John in this eppy… and he really had his own plan all along. ~

~Ha I wonder what Sam and John thought had happened to the glass that mysteriously flew off the table and shattered. They got so quiet. Then they got distracted with Dean’s almost death.. I just wonder what was going through their minds then.~

~Wow I forgot how creepy Tessa’s true form was. ~

~Hmm, Sam really sensed and even heard Dean’s voice . I’m sure everyone else is wondering too if it was because they are that close or because of Sam being psychic. John was oblivious to any of it though.~

~Lol at Dean’s reaction to the Ouija Board! ~

~Ha, John must have found the summoning ingredients he needed somewhere else because I doubt Sam would have given it to him after knowing . ~

~Lol I almost forgot, YED’s vessel worked at that hospital.~

~Aww Sam’s bit of dialogue to Dean’s body.. so heart breaking yet heart warming at the same time. It’s a shame Dean’s spirit wasn’t around to hear that. ~

~YED kills me with his sarcastic humor. “oh john I’m offended, don’t you trust me?” LOL And he really put a lot of time and effort into raising Lucifer. I mean seriously that was a long working plan. geeze And it all worked out perfectly.. unfortunately ~

~Holy cow I forgot how terrified Tessa was of that demon. She freaked out.~

~Wow if she hadn’t been possessed, I wonder what Dean would have chosen? He looks as if he was about to give up and agree to going with her. Especially since she told him he may turn into the things they hunt after time. ~

~Poor John. The first victim of the endless cycle of Winchester Sacrifice. Well technically Mary was the first victim according to “In the Beginning,” but still they all are so selfless. That's true love. ~

~Oh how I can remember that famous whisper between John and Dean and how long it was such a mystery. Now I understand why Dean looked so shocked. But then thinking about it, the actors didn’t know what the whisper was really about …. but that was such a believable reaction to your father telling you that you may have to kill your little brother one day.~

That was a very good yet sad episode. I havent seen it... well since it aired probably. eek

I can’t wait to see what is chosen for next week

Alright firstly... Sam kept hearing Dean. Several times he turned to where he was standing and he even quoted him once. I'm not sure if all that is because he could actually sense him, or if Sam just knew Dean so well that he just knew what he'd say and said it. But even after saying "Just find some hoodoo priest to lay some mojo on him" Sam made a face like 'wtf did I just say?' O.o
Just wondering if Sam could really hear him or not with the psychic stuff. John didn't seem to sense him at all and Dean was practically screaming at him confused

That's the same exact thing I thought. I'm still not sure which one it was.

Ha I rewatched that "hoodoo priest " line and Sam did look surprised like "okay... where the heck did that come from." lolz
Yea and John never even sensed Dean once so Idk... it could be both.

I know! That car was basically screwed for life and I found it amazing Dean got it back to the shape it is now. Ha the magic of tv! wink Oh well I cant complain, at least the car lives!

fourth, Sam was really being hard on John I must say. I mean I can't blame him but in the end.... John had it all figured out to trade himself for Dean's life and yet Sam did nothing but believe John cared more about stopping the YED than saving Dean. Then again, so did Dean. They both were hard on John sad

Yea both Sam and Dean doubted John. Feel sorry for John. They all thought he was so selfish but in the end he ended up giving up the colt AND his life to save Dean.

fifth, for gods sakes, WHY didn't they think somethign weird was going on when the glass magically flew off the table? sorry, that's always bugged me lol.

Lol i always wondered what they were thinking because they both got so quiet and I wondered what they would have said next if the commotion with the doctors and Dean dying hadn't have happened. I wonder if they both thought it was Dean or something else.

Question... why didn't John set up ny devils traps when he called the YED? Seriously, he could have trapped him and his henchmen, and made him do whatever he wanted to save Dean, and THEN killed him. Happy ending lol. Or why didn't he go to the crssroads? John might have gotten at least another year or ten. Better deal than what he got confused
I know he said he didn't want to trap him... but wtf John seriously.

That's a good question, cuz he could have , but then again YED was expecting traps in the first place. Idk why, maybe he just wasnt thinking ! lol

Garra answered your next question but yea it was easier summoning him since John was in such a beat up state

Hm... wonder what Dean would have chose to have done.... gone with the reaper or stayed. For some reason I imagine him staying and holding on, but i don't know why. Dean just strikes me as the 'I don't want to be a rest' sort of guy. He'd keep trying to fight even beyond the dead imo.

Me too.. he looked like he was about to accept, but then again you are right, Dean really isnt the type of guy who'd just give up and die. Tessa seemed really convincing after telling him he'd turn into the things they hunt.

I didnt even know there were origin comics eek lol
