RaccoonArrancar
"Vizard? Well... Are you suggesting we got and snag one of them next so that we can discover more? I Wouldn't mind to give that a go!" A peak of interest and light rang in Horatio's voice, as if something new had caught his curiousity. Horatio paused for a moment still reciting most of what Charles had said, how everything pretty much originated from the same source.

Charles can't help but smirk a bit at the zeal Horatio has at the thought of a new victim for impromptu interrogation. While this is a little more like the Arrancar he had been warned of, this more animated Horatio seems more relaxed and real. More unrestrained but in a way that doesn't seem threatening. "I was actually referring to a nice little chat with a learned one. Of course, given their animosity with both our sides, your snagging might well be required. They are the possible key, the proof that the souls are the same by achiveing both the beta and delta state at the same time."

RaccoonArrancar
"Charles... This is more of a question to your opinion, is there ever a possibility that all the diffrent races can co-exist togather? Why is it that we all carry arms to each other instead of words? What sparked this whole conflict?... And more so, about yourself, what would the soul society, your squad say or do if you possessed an... alliance or some how aided an arrancar in whatever way that might be... or even mutually befriended one?"

Horatio seemed to pause at the word 'friendship', as if something about saying the word as unnatural to him and unreal, an uncomfortable word.

With a heavy sigh and shrug he considers the thought of a peaceful coexistence. "Can the sun tolerate a starry sky? No. I don't think there will ever be a lasting peace. There is more at work here than ideologies and cultural differences. Hollows and Shimigami are two sides of the same coin. Each has a method to revert the other to another form, each wanting dominance over the world of souls, and each striving for control of both themselves and the world the live in. Some like you and I can move past that- I think you have anyways . . . but by and large it is an eternal struggle."

The thought of an alliance however, makes Charles pause for a moment. Once again Horatio either shows he is not the kind of being he should be, or that Arrancar are different than he had been told. An alliance?! It is possible . . . and theoretically, Charles should be dead now . . . Despite the impossibility of the situation, he feels himself considering it! On one hand he should agree regardless, if for no better reason than to increase his chances to escape. Should Horatio think he is an ally, there is less reason to kill him. On the other, Marco was shocked he shook hands with Horatio. An alliance might push him over the edge...

Then Charles looks at his hands and a scowl comes to his face. Marco . . . betrayer . . . took no effort to help him attack Ophelia. Gave him a medicine for mediocre wounds that left him as bait. Still has his blade. An anger grows in his chest as he thinks about the one he was supposed to confide in. Nothing in this war has made sense yet. Shimigami showed no real interest in saving him. Arrancar have been kind. Now the final crux- does it make sense to forge an alliance with the Arrancar so soon?

Charles' eyes slowly move up, but his head remains down, giving him an aggressive appearance as he removes his favored visor.
"Soul Society is your home now. The Seireitei is gone, and what shimigami I have met seem unable to realize that. As for the others wearing a black shihaksho instead of white . . . at the moment my being allied with an Arrancar would likely be seen as treason, depending on what the alliance is for. At the moment however, I don't see how shimigami have much left to be prideful of."

Balling up his fist he looks at the dirt at his feet feeling his anger peak. "My squad evidently didn't have as much need of me as required to mount an offense or rescue. My Captain didn't put up much of a fight." Looking up he raises his hand outward again.

"To them this would be 'desperate times require desperate measures.' To me . . . this is an intellectual alliance, born of mutual benefit and interest. You have been more than generous and kind with me. I'd be lying if I claimed to be uninterested in seeing where this goes. Assuming you do not wish to devour me . . . " Hoping that last part came out as a joke he offers his hand. The smile on his face twofold at both the delicious blasphemy of the moment, and the fact that if they are allied, it begins the same way his capture did- with a handshake. Offering his hand to an Arrancar- Marco balked at doing it once. The Shimigami training wondered what he might do if he learned that Charles is offering to do it again.

Opehlia watched with interest. She had no real alliances, though she liked Horatio well enough. She was vaguely She said. curious as to what they would do together. Maybe she wouldn't eat the Shinigami. Her grin stretched.

If Aizen finds out and you're not planning to betray him, he's going to skin you alive Horatio.

Charles falters for a moment at the final connection of 'him.' Of course! He berates himself mentally as everything comes into place. Sōsuke Aizen, one of the most infamous members of the Shimigami that has ever lived. His actions had a direct effect on the chaos that weakened the seireitei and led to it's ultimate downfall. Then again, given the new information he has gleaned here . . . Charles recovers after only a moment.

Turning his head to look at Ophelia, he smiles softly to the more feral Arrancar.
"If memory serves, former Captain Aizen took former captains Gin and Tōsen with him to Hueco Mundo. Given my low rank and influence, as long as I do not overstep my bounds or dig for secret material, perhaps they can allow a friendship?"

Opehlia snorted.

He'll squash you both like bugs just for thinking about it. But, you may get lucky. He's probably all wrapped up in this takeover thing. So, it's a 50-50 chance you have.

Charles merely smiles and offers a small nod, falling upon his more metaphorical abilities. "When you walk down the street, do you notice the ants? I am little more than an insect in Aizen's world, and expect just as much notice. True he could destroy me, but that is unlikely. Three things move the universe, madam. Matter, energy, and enlightened self-interest. Aizen gains nothing for destroying me. I am unworthy of the effort."

Though self-depreciation is not usually a good course, Charles again decides to be open about what is going on. Aizen has won- his creations now rule the world he had forsaken, and sitting upon his chosen throne there is little that could approach him of his own make. Even fewer things could challenge him from beyond his court, and if there is a threat to his world, Charles is in the area farthest from.

"You may be right, and you may not. All you can do is test your theory and see." Opehlia said with a wicked grin. There were very few things in this world, or any other for that matter which she feared or respected. Aizen was one of them.

Horatio extended his right hand clasping it in Charles had, tightening his grip in a firm but not too firm hold, a quick shake of his wrist and his hand released again. Giving off a little sigh of relief Horatio turned to Ophelia. He smiled almost deviously to her as if he was reminded of who he was, what he was, what his role and job was, he had to assert himself to the image that all arrancar had to be. He had to put back on his mask and continue on the act to survive.

"Aizen hardly knows us for the matter, to him we're mere grunts, disposible, expendable. My curiousities and needs to learn such little things are of no importance to him or threat to him, besides Ophelia... It's better to know what exactly it is that you stuff down your throat."

Horatio's act was rather believeable, it even included a cold little chuckle at the end. In the end it was all just an act that fooled most, even fellow arrancar like Ophelia.

"Charles... you do understand that if you return and such things here are discovered, your basicly caught in between treason/punishment and death/consumption? Just a suggestion, for both our sakes, what if word was that information was tortured out of you? Would the shinigami believe that? "

"Another question... if I gave you the option right now, the choice, to return back to your squad... with some injuries of course and a back story... would you take it? Or would you run the risk of staying here as a... 'Prisoner of war' and learn more with the risk of being eaten one of these days?...'

Horatio extended his right hand clasping it in Charles had, tightening his grip in a firm but not too firm hold, a quick shake of his wrist and his hand released again. Horatio's act was rather believeable, it even included a cold little chuckle at the end. In the end it was all just an act that fooled most, even fellow arrancar like Ophelia.

Charles remains steadfastly serious in his facial expression during the shake. Inwardly he muses at the full circle nature of this. Begun with a handshake that caught attention only to end for this moment with the same gesture. Beginning with a friendly and courteous meeting, but ending with a pact that could damn them both if played incorrectly. With no less attention, he takes mental notes about the obvious change in character in Horatio. Almost as if he is switching personalities, burying his true intentions beneath the zealot in Aizen's cutthroat army. Standing with his arms at his sides, Charles is forcibly reminded of what Marco asked of him about his opinions.

RaccoonArrancar
"Charles... you do understand that if you return and such things here are discovered, your basicly caught in between treason/punishment and death/consumption? Just a suggestion, for both our sakes, what if word was that information was tortured out of you? Would the shinigami believe that? "

Offering a smirk, he raises his right hand with a flippant motion to act airily. "Why split hairs? Regardless of whom might wish to use this information against either of us, the consequences would be dire." Charles idly begins to stroll around in a small area, remaining in front of Horatio, but his posture changes slightly so that Ophelia is directly to his left, if a short distance away.

"As I said earlier: Enlightened self interest. It is better for all involved if this little meeting's finer points do not come to light. Even if torture was approved of, who would believe a minnow made a deal with two sharks? All they have is intelligence that a neonate was friendly to you. Then I was taken against my will. Who would believe that I had anything of interest to offer those so much stronger and better than an unarmed new soldier in a doomed war?"

RaccoonArrancar
"Another question... if I gave you the option right now, the choice, to return back to your squad... with some injuries of course and a back story... would you take it? Or would you run the risk of staying here as a... 'Prisoner of war' and learn more with the risk of being eaten one of these days?...'

At this, Charles pauses and stops moving. Looking down in thought, he weighs options carefully and his eyes dart back and forth as he considers. After a long, pregnant moment, he looks up again with a soft smile. "Assuming you gave the option, there would be no choice. Unarmed and without allies in Hueco Mundo or the Seireitei, my prospect of life is negligible. I am no good to either you or myself consumed and transformed into a hollow or dispersed by a blast of one of your comrades. My best hope would be to grovel at Aizen's feet, which would draw attention and likely end up as me being killed."

"My desire to learn is forcibly tempered by facts. If I am patient, more opportunities will come. I only would ask your indulgence for two requests." Offering a deep bow, he hopes not to be presumptious. Still, his hands assume a pose to prepare for his next reckless move. His left hand assumes a pose like a caged ball, ready to hold on to something, and his right in a prayer pose before his chest as if to beg indulgence.

"First, I would ask that I be returned near to where I was. I believe there was some mention of a cave nearby where healers were working. The warzone should have left casulties long enough to leave them still entrenched in that position. Returned harmed and beaten, they will keep my suffering to a minimum and point me to my 'squad' quickly. Secondly . . . ?"

"You see, in order to be believable, the attack should be real. If you wish to be apparently stung, best to use a short stick into a hornet's nest. I would humbly request that I not be killed, and you let my right arm intact. My notes should be written soon before too many details of what I have learned here are lost." As he finishes speaking, his mouth suddenly begins to move quickly as he recites not one, but two kido spells with blinding speed. Both are simple, but in his left hand glows a faint effect for a moment, followed shortly by him folding two fingers to make his right hand into a pointing gesture, still aimed upwards. Looking dead at Horatio, he seems to steel himself holding on to a hado in his right and a bakudo in his left . . .

Only to almost simoultaniously fire them both to his left!
"SAI!!! BYAKURAI!!!" The binding spell would not hold Ophelia for more than a moment given the difference in power, but Charles hopes that the moment is all he needs as less than a second after the surprise casting of sai, a beam of lightning fires from his right fingers as he hastily points them to his left- where he positioned himself to be. without warning, and apparently targeting Horatio, Charles hopes the shock and sting will piss off Ophelia just enough to have her tear into him. Her feral nature should want to cause damage.

His minor plan put into action, Charles knows he has no chance to defend except to pull his scabbard off his belt and hold it along his forearm to help block incoming attacks. In his mind, a silken voice breathes a whisper that even he is unaware of . . . "You are crazier than even I thought!"

(I apologize for the lack in posting today, church stuff goin on.)

"Sounds like a plan!" After Charle's 'speech' and attack towards Ophelia, horatio had clicked in, turning his right hand over to his left side under the arm, grabbing hold of his Zapakuto, stepping forth at Charles, unsheating the blade and swinging it out at the same time in a single motion horizontally aimed high at Charles chest region. The gleamer of a bala charge glowed in his off hand. His single slash had some strength behind it to push Charles off balance at the very least. "Ophelia, time to play with your food!"

"We'll meet again..." Slidding forth out of the ground quiet a distance behind Charles was a gate, the image of the other side ripple like the surface of water.

((Sorry for the little godmod there, but you better hurry if you want to catch anyone at the Werewolf Woods. They're going by copter for the counterattack. ))

Opehlia snarled loudly, furious that he had even thought of aiming an attack at her.

"Play? I don't think so." She spat. She was sick of this plaything and she'd eat him now.

She didn't care if it was an act, she chomp a piece out of him before her left. His binding spell held her for a plit second before she lunged and tackled him, biting into his arm before rolling off and hissing at him.

Horatio swiftly shifted his left arm around, swinging it around once before fireing off a bala at Charle's feet, the force of the attack bared a shockwave and explosion strong enough to send charles flying towards the open gate where the forest of Evil's awaited.

"Take care..."

Shocked that his surprise actually worked, Charles has very little time to appreciate his 'good fortune.' Ophelia was meant to be angered, and that part of his plan is working far better than he meant for it to! Breaking through the Sai, it is unclear if his Byakurai did anything at all to her. Knowing his luck, it hit something important to her. Still, he had only considered her feral reaction and is caught off guard as a gash forms across his upper chest just above his hand.

Turning to look at Horatio, he has very little time to realize just how many hornets are emerging from this nest he has prodded. This sudden interference gives Ophelia the opening she needs. His left arm suddenly burns with pain and his body slams into the ground. She bit him! In his mind he begins to wonder how he will get out of this- odd, that is how he got into this mess in the forest to begin with . . .

One Arrancar enjoying the show, the other ready to pounce, Charles starts to make a break for his only hope of survival. The gate waits patiently, impassive. Suddenly a force pushes Charles far and fast through the air. The faint call of Horatio is almost lost on him as he passes into the woods.

Opehlia licked the blood off her lips with a swipe of her tongue that she had drawn from Charles. She grumbled.

"I almost had him. I should have eaten him when I had the chance..." Opehlia muttered, checking to make sure her special haori was all right. It looked a little dusty and she hissed, whipping it off carefully before tucking it back into it's pouch.
