Background: Long before the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, there was a great Sindar Elf known as Oropher. As Oropher lead his people, along with many other Elves of the West, east across the Misty Mountains, a band of Orcs, foul spawn of Morgoth, attacked. It was then that Orophers dear wife, Ireth Arcamenel, died. Feeling as if he had failed his family, Oropher and his people stayed where they were, fearful of going farther into the east. His two sons, Galenion and Thranduil, stayed loyal to their father throughout this time. However, soon dissent began to brew between the Elves who followed Amroth and those who followed Oropher. Orophers people split from their kin, who would later be known as Elves of Lothlorien, and continued on a northern path. Neither Oropher nor his sons wished to press east after what had befallen Ireth. So, they came to an area at the base of a great forest, and set up their homes there. It was known as Greenwood the Great. There, they came to know and befriend the Elves of the region, the Silvan Elves. It was Legede who spoke for his people, for he had knowledge of the Sindarin language and, unlike his kin, had traveled toward the west to befriend those in the kingdom of Thingol. Oropher recognized Legede, for the Sindar Elves had just come from Thingols great palace, and he had met him on one of those travels. The Sindar Elves and the Silvan Elves, decided to unite their two groups for strength against the coming darkness.
The years passed and Greenwood prospered into one of the most beautiful of all the Elven kingdoms. Thranduil himself found a bride amongst the Silvan Elves, Nienna Earfalas. His elder brother Galenion, however, remained unwed due to his own choosing. Years passed, and Thranduil and Nienna were gifted with a son Morolas, fair of eyes and hair.
Galenion and Thranduil were no where near alike. While Thranduil had long blond hair and blue eyes, his brother had raven locks and a bright green gaze that could pierce a persons very soul. Thranduil enjoyed his days amongst nature, though he took his studies very seriously. Galenion however, preferred the sparing field and scouting missions to any other activity his family could assign him.
Darkness crept toward Greenwood however, as the Necromancer waged war against the Elves. Orophers people fled, for they found no aid in their Lothlorien kin, and established a new kingdom in the far north of the forest. But the evil had already seeped into the woods and now, the Elves hearts were heavy with despair and grief. Many had died on that flight and thus, they named their new home Mirkwood.
Oropher reigned as king of the Sindar and Silvan Elves in Mirkwood for many years. However, Galenion became to envy his brother. It was clear that Thranduil was Orophers favorite son, even though the other would be his heir. Thranduil possessed a pure heart and both love and kindness radiated from him. Galenion however, was tricky and his methods, many times, uncouth. When the War of the Last Alliance came did all the trouble start.
Legede had been appointed as Orophers Captain of the Royal Guard, and it was the Silvan Elfs responsibility to protect the king with his very life. However, the Orcs of Sauron were far too numerous. When Oropher lead a charge against the foul creatures, the other Elves held back, watching as those of Mirkwood were slaughtered before them. To this day, Galenion hates the Elves of Rivendell and Lothlorien, even though his brother has strong relations with them.
Orophers dying words were that his son, Thranduil, should take his crown and place it upon his own head. Enraged, Galenion swore revenge.
Years passed and Thranduil was the new king of Mirkwood. Legede, who had survived, stayed by the Elvenkings side and was his closest confidant. Morolas had grown enough to become a high ranking commander in the Mirkwood army, as well as its crown prince. Soon, Nienna was pregnant once more, and gave birth to a second son Legolas, also fair of hair and eyes.
Legolas and Morolas were nearly inseperable. The youngest prince loved his elder brother dearly. However, when Legolas was still an Elfling a terrible tragedy occurred in the kingdom.
Legedes only surviving family from the trek from Greenwood to Mirkwood, was his sister, her husband, and her son. Lauraliens husband, Findecano Seregon, had perished in the same battle which felled King Oropher. Now, she had her brother and son, Findarato, only. During this time, Galenion had begun tutoring Morolas in the arts of war, for there was no dispute to Thranduil, that his older brother was more wise in the ways of battle. Morolas was a fast learner, however, he also acquired Galenions love of revenge. It had become clear that Thranduil favored his son Legolas, for the boy was much like him as he grew. Morolas was so very akin to Galenion, that sometimes the young Elfs gazes frightened even his father.
Thus, it was no hard task to turn the young Morolas against Thranduil.
A mutiny within Mirkwood occurred. Half of the people believed Galenion should be their king. After all, he was the eldest son of Oropher. The other half however, remained loyal to Thranduil, including the armed forces of the kingdom.
Everything came to a boiling head however, when Findarato, who was one of Morolas closest friends, overheard the crown prince and Galenion plotting to assassinate the king. Findarato was found out however, and murdered. In her grief, Lauralien wasted away, and died not long after her son.
Angry at what had occurred in his kingdom, not to mention the losses taken by his closest friend, Legede, King Thranduil had both Galenion, and his eldest son, banished from all Elven havens forever.
Time passed on until, after the War of the Ring, one evening, Thranduil was visited by a familiar face. The Elvenking was worrying over one of Legolas new foolhardy plans to get rid of the bane, Nazaroth who, at the time, was possessed by the evil Vala, Morgoth. A figure attacked the Elvenking in his own chambers Galenion. The elder brother failed to kill his sibling, but did not stop there. He attacked Legolas but, thanks to Sallia, the assassination attempt was foiled. They thought Galenion dead but they thought wrong. The evil Elf caught up with Legolas once more, when the prince had been terribly wounded by a rescue attempt gone wrong. Nazaroth had triumphed. He had Sallia. Legolas, broken and in pain, lay in a cave that, strangely enough, was above the lair of Morgoths mighty Balrogs. Galenion came to him then, taunting him, laughing and mocking the fallen Elf. At the appearance of Sario and Legede however, the evil Elf fled, for he could sense the power of Manwe with the Maia. Legolas was healed and soon merged with Manwe to destroy Morgoth and Nazaroth, seemingly, once and for all. Sario and Legede fled back to Sallias home, where Thranduil was still recovering from the wounds given to him by his mad brother. On the way back however, it was discovered that Morgoth had entered Legedes body. The Elf found himself blinded, and confronted by Galenion. The Elfs voice had been ingrained into his memory as visions of the past flooded the captains mind. With a little help from Sario, and with heightened hearing to make up for his loss of sight, Legede shot Galenion through the chest with an arrow. They then took the body back with them, presenting the dead Galenion to Thranduil.
Galenion was buried near Sallias home.
Now however, Galenion had returned. He made a bargain with Morgoth in the Abyss, claiming that if he was brought to life once more, he would do all in his power to destroy those who had wronged him. So, much in the same way as Nufeniels resurrection, Galenion returned to the world of the living and is now bent on revenge
