LOOKY HERE MOM! 8D Artist (if not yourself): Tuatha De
Person entering for(if any): Tuatha De
Ornament:
I actually did this at a 600x600 size -- larger version can be found
here.Inspiration: Well, after some warm and fuzzy entries, I wanted to do something a little more... unusual. So this is "The Dark Side of Winter," a collection of dark myths and perils. It features an eclipse (representing darkness and long nights), cracked ice (danger of falling through), and a fluff of snow leopard fur (representing the predators of the tundra). The red-on-white color, the scythe, and the horns are for
Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, an ancient winter solstice tradition of Mithraism. But there is also a bow and a silver bell at the tip, representing hope, attached to a piece of mistletoe, which is traditionally connected to both love and the
death of Baldr, Norse god of light and beauty. XD;; So yeah, Tua is a mythology geek.
(Edit: Note from Mindsend
biggrin Good to see someone mention the norse reason for mistletoe. ;D Being so scandinavian that my dads name is Thor, I'm named after Tyr, and I had a dog named Valkyrie)
