Neylie gave a light laugh and settled herself into the snow. "About three years. I was born a house pet, and lived with housefolk for a while, but it never suited me. So, I left and took to the woods, where there are some bands of wolves, and dogs. Not all of them were very kindly to those new to the woods, so fending for myself taught me a bit." She smiled gently and inched closer to him. She leaned forward, almost touching her nose to his, but she hesitated, her breath showing up as steam in the air. She blinked, as if just coming back to reality, and looked akwardly at the ground.

The masculine husky-mix returned her smile, though the longhair had looked away. Rolling onto his stomach he settled his head on the ground, the gentle zephyr's rushing through his fur. The smell of pine swept over him and gave the dog a fresh, wild scent. I hope they didn't hurt or mistreat you, Neyl. But, now you won't have to worry so much about defending yourself. I'll make sure we aren't bothered. They might have taken me out of the wild, but they haven't taken the wild outta' me."

"They tried, but I'm just to quick for them" She laughed and layed down beside him. Neylie really admired the way he spoke. Refined, clever, but with an air of ease. "They don't bother me anymore. We just respect eachother's territory." She paused, blinking as snowflakes landed by her eyes. "We should probably get to my den now. Wouldn't want to get sick out here..."

"I bet you were." Phex replied, grinning at her. He loved her light and easy way of conversing, making anyone feel right at home. She had a tender heart too. All good qualities for an Alpha, he thought to himself.
He stood and allowed Neylie to lead the way. Though he appeared calm and controlled, inside he was panicking a bit. A sense of all he had yet to learn about living out in these was making him nervous. He didn't know how to hunt or even where the best hunting spots were. His eyes slightly downcast he followed the female and promised himself to learn as fast as he could.

Not used to flattery, Neylie blushed a little and took a few steps forwards. "Right. This way." She started towards the woods, walking slowly so Phex could get a feel for where they were going. Her head was a bit clouded, filling up with emotions she'd never really had before. Is this what they call "puppy love?

As the pair walked, Phex carefully surveyed the landscape, noting stumps, fallen logs, and the like. If he was to live here, he needed to know the territory. He inhaled the scent of decaying trees, rabbit trails, and the frozen stream. It was all so serene, but the Akita wondered how long it would last. Breaking the silence he asked, "Neylie, I was wondering, where does your territory meet up with the pack of wolves and such? And what's the pack's leader like? I wanna get a feel for the relationship between his pack and outsiders."

"Well, my territory is pretty much everywhere theirs isn't. I never really established borders, there just wasn't any need. The leader is very territorial, and he's not terribly fond of outsiders. He picks on them, but I don't recall him ever doing any real harm... Though I suppose it's because he scares others away from his borders, so there's no need. But, don't worry about it. You're with me, so he shouldn't have a problem with it. Besides, his pack takes shelter closer to the top of the mountain, on the east." She walked in comfortable scilence for a moment. " You're very well spoken for one your age."

Listening intently, Phex pictured the rival pack's Alpha in his mind. He struggled with the image and then laughed softly to himself when it finally came to be. The leader was a light brown and silver wolf mix whom wore a sour expression, he had a bit of a jug head and wasn't proportioned very well. If this is he, Phex thought, then I'm guessing he really just makes himself look big and scary, but inside he's a shriveled up old dog. Neylie's soft voice instantaneously brought Phex back to reality. His dark eyes were drawn to her face as she spoke. "Hmh, thank you. I think." he teased. "From what I've heard of my parents, I'm positive that's one of the few traits my father passed to me. Though, he may have been suave. He certainly wasn't all too kind. I'm thankful I inherited some of my mother's kindness and had it instilled as a pup." He paused, embarrassed and wondered if he had said too much. Phex discarded the thought, if was to be living with Neylie, she ought to and should know stuff like this. Watching her he asked cautiously, "Do you remember much of your parents or siblings?"

"The sauve part was definatly passed on! My parents? Well..." She paused a moment, gathering her thoughts, but continued walking. " I remember my mother... a bit. She was a house pet. Gentle, quiet, obedient. And boring." She giggled. "I guess seeing how content she was to leap at a humands command and stay indoors all the time made me want something more. As far as my father goes, he lived in the house next door, so I didn't see much of him. He was the green one though." A cold wind ripped through the forest, kicking up snow. "Come on, my den's not far and it's getting kinda rough out here." With that, she broke into a brisk trot.

"Well, thank you, m'dear." replied the akita, while sweeping into a low bow, his eyes sparkling playfully. "I do hope my 'suaveness' is a good trait." Phex listened sincerely to Neylie's retelling of her puppy-hood, but she was soon silenced as a loud gust of wind ripped it's way through the wood. The pair ran for the cover of the female's den.

Though keeping her pace, Neylie did manage a giggle. "Well now that sauveness has switched over to flirting hasn't it?" She smiled warmly and shook her head, teasing him. Her den was just a few feet away. It was a little hidey-hole, niched into a rocky part of the mountain. "Here we are. It'll be a bit cold at first, but it should warm up after a bit." She was about to add "off cuddling," but decided against making any akward remarks.

"Perhaps." Phex replied, seeming to stifle a smile on his serious face. As he walked past her to the den he let him smile show through before crawling into the opening. Neylie was right, it was small, but cozily so. The smell was a comforting earthly one, mixed with dirt, pine and grass. Phex drew in a deep breath and curled himself into a corner. As the longhair made her way in, the akita quietly said, "I rather like it in here. It's very nice."

"Why thank you. I find it comfy. Except for the fact that a mouse or two occasionaly see fit to make it their own home," She settled down beside him, her pelt brushed against his. She smiled gently and neslted her head into her paws. "Do you think you'll be happy out here?" Neylie whispered.

Looking at Neylie, his eyes filled with a sincere and kind look, replied in an equally quiet voice by saying, "I know I will." He then settled himself into a comfortable position, his head resting near Neylie's. He was thankful of his heritage, giving him such a thick and warm coat.
For awhile he lay awake, just enjoying the friendship of Neylie and her presence and the comfortable living space. Tomorrow, if the snow let up, Phex hoped that Neylie would show him around and he could go for a run. But, for now he was just content with sleeping.

"That's good..." Her eyes closed and her thoughts drifted. It wasn't until she asked Phex if he wanted to stay with her that she realized how lonely she'd really been. Having been on her own for so long, and not caring much, the companionship of another dog ( especially such a charming young male) really made her appreciate it. Happy thoughts floated her off into an easy sleep.
