Wow, so many people in this forum have come out...I'm so proud of you guys. JoVo's right: it's not a unique or extensive thing to expect for those who we love (and who claim to love us) to accept us for who we are; but that fact doesn't make it any easier to face the reality of how cruel and ******** up the world can be. And if you haven't come out yet, do not think I'm not proud of you, too! I mean, you're here, aren't you. Mostly anonymous web-reality this may be, but it means you're at least being honest with yourself, and that is so huge. Everyone needs to figure this out in their own way and at their own pace. We'll be here to support you in any way we can. At least I certainly will. *hugs*

It's always easier to come out to your friends and family with a supporting group of people who know what it feels like.

I was outed, not came out. Well, I came out to a few people back in Highschool, the first guy being my crush. Well, turns out he was striahgt, or so he says(he has since stopped talking to me).
With my dad, twas a completely different matter. We both use the same computer and and let's just say he found some stuff you wouldnt want your parents to see. And thats how I basically got comfortable since he did mention he found porn on my computer and well, he is a cool dad, what can I say? I'm kinda suspecting he is bi himself, thus the really easy recpetion. Ive had guys over and I've introduced them as friends, though most of the time, we just sneak around, since I don't like answering questions(awkward questions).
I have since came out to most of my friends and family(which mostly consist of extended ones), the ones actually worth coming out too, and well, I've been in and around the gay parts of town strutting my stuff. razz
I've never had harrasment before because of my sexuality, but I'm always on the alert, guess I'm pretty lucky so far.

Astri and Hasunuma are both right, the internet is a valuable resource for support. The only way I keep up with what's being stirred up around the world is through GLBT news resources, and they're also the reason I came out. It became ridiculous to believe that I was the only one miserable when people were being executed in Egypt, even when it is only an accusation, or denied rights and liberties that they should be entitled to in my own backyard. It wasn't a question of if I was gay, it was more: why am I so ashamed of being gay? Before 16, my closest friends and older sister knew, then it just became pretty common knowledge. Last summer, my dad decided he would take a quick flip through the internet history and My Documents and came across what he proclaimed to be "porn" and sexually graphic websites (because 365 Gay and Planet Out turn me on! rolleyes ) Very loose definition of pornographic material, when each and every one of the male figures was at least wearing pants! I cracked, my father snapped, and my mom is still "digesting" it all. Not the most ideal situation, but at least the cat is out of the bag. After I sit down with the parental units to finish the job, it's home free. Whose bright idea was it to crazy glue that closet doorknob?

Nusumi I'm just wondering how old everyone was when(if) they came out. You can also tell stories of your coming out here if you want. I'm not fully out, I'm only out to my friends, not my family sweatdrop And also, my friends only know I'm bi(as I as bi when I came out to them) but now I'm more gay than bi. It was allmost a year ago, in october/november(right after I turned 16) =B So since I'm not fully out, other sweatdrop PS: If you want to come out but are afraid, you can post here and hopefully you'll get support 3nodding umm I havn't come out yet... my parents hate gays so what should I do???

I'm slowly coming out. A few people know already, and I'm kinda afraid as to what's gonna happen once college starts again in September. Will people start avoiding me now? Will certain people wanna hang out with me more often? etc. redface
But as for my parents, I don't have any immediate plans of telling them concidering they're big time homophobes. They'll either find out when I'm with someone, or I might tell them in the heat of anger and spite. rolleyes

Marque They'll either find out when I'm with someone, or I might tell them in the heat of anger and spite. rolleyes That's what I thought too, but it can catch up to you. Anger and spite are horrid little things, when I said "my father snapped," we had a a 2 hour debate in the middle of the night and all the windows were open. Now the only time he mentions it is in arguments about civil rights and my "future." I'm just grateful that I wasn't forced out for being "abnormal" (his words, not mine). My own parents are not even that homophobic (my dad was born in the early 1950s, so his ideas are a bit outdated). They have never been violent or attempted to change my mind in the whole year since I told them. But be prepared, have a contingency plan, namely a place to stay if and when you do tell them just in case.

I know I have like 3 girls that love to cling to me, and I have some that want to be my friend just caus I'n gay.
As for parents, the easyest way is to slowly let them find out, leaving hints, clues, it helps them prepair themselves for the end result, though it'll never be easy with "old fashioned parents" My dad is SO homophobic, but there are times when I think he'd be able to take it, and others when I know that he'd kill me. There is no easy way out. Some people are set so deeply into the rigid thoughts that homosexualism is wrong that... well there is no end...

I don't mind overly hugging girls whee However I do get annoyed by one in particular in my life that just loves her gay boys and has to be around them 24/7 sweatdrop Of course she loves to refer to herself as a constant f** hag with 16 gay boys o.O'' and always want one around her.. which scares me. I've deducted though that this tendency is isolated to herself, since I know other girls who aren't like her but still support their gay friends.
But yeah, I love all my friends for supporting me, especially the ones I call late at night from being upset over my parents. And also the ones who treat me the same regardless of my sexuality, which I appreciate alot since it brings a bit more balance to my currently chaotic life.

Star Enforcer umm I havn't come out yet... my parents hate gays so what should I do??? It's best to start with trusting friends in my opinion. The very first friend I told turned out to be an exchange of secrets XD He told me he was gay and I told him I was bi(but that was allmost a year ago, and now I'm more gay than bi)

Yea I totally understand ^^'., I mean I'm like, the leen poll of all of my friends. They confide in me and I don't mind if they call me late at night. I'm always there for them. But it's also nice if other people do that for me and treat me the same as they treat other girls who arn't bi. And I have a problem sorta like yours sweatdrop A lotta guys only like me and hang around me cuz im bi. They think its the coolest thing in the whole world and they are obsessed sweatdrop It kinda creeps me out.

Hasunuma Vague Hasunuma Now she is in denial, and plans on entering me into the military when I finish high school. Which should be very interesting... Where do you live? Virginia Beach, VA (go figure). I live like 10 miles from the NAS (Naval Air Station). And Virginia Beach is right next to Norfolk, which is a huge military place. Well, she can't make you join the military, and don't ever let her convince you you don't have a choice. You always have a choice. Montigo Dominic JoVo Every time I remind her, it's like I'm opening a sore wound, but I refuse to let her forget something that's so important to me. That is a little bit cruel...Justified. It's such a major fact, she can't afford to not be aware of it. And how cruel is she, in refusing to listen? Damian Myrddin I understand where JoVo is coming from, mainly because my parents right now are denying the whole thing and are trying to isolate me from everything. And inside I've just given up on them, since its my own life from now on, not theirs. At least I've let them know. The longer you wait to confront them, the worse it will get and the tougher your fight will be. Slyargent just say he found some stuff you wouldnt want your parents to see. And thats how I basically got comfortable since he did mention he found porn on my computer and well, he is a cool dad, what can I say? Keithing my dad decided he would take a quick flip through the internet history and My Documents and came across what he proclaimed to be "porn" and sexually graphic websites (because 365 Gay and Planet Out turn me on! rolleyes ) Oy. Bet you learned a lesson about covering your tracks. Why don't kids realize how easy it is to trace their usage? Keithing Astri and Hasunuma are both right, the internet is a valuable resource for support. As I mentioned in my story, I came out to avoid losing the support of the internet. It's great and powerful, indeed. Star Enforcer umm I havn't come out yet... my parents hate gays so what should I do??? Well, why do you believe they hate gays? And whereabouts do you live? If you live in a good community, you might try asking to speak to your school's counsellor. Keithing Marque (my dad was born in the early 1950s, so his ideas are a bit outdated). Both my parents were born in the 40s, it has little to do with how old you are, and really to do with how wide you open your mind and how much you love your child.

i came out to my friends at the lunch table one day...we were just sitting there and it was silent and i bust out with..." y'know, i'm attracted to girls.." after a pause two of my friends said they were too...maybe they were just waiting for someone else to say it first.
then i came out to my mom at a flyers game while she was having a cigarette. it was very random but she was uber-cool and just told me an amusing story about her first trip to a gay bar. the only serious comment she made was that she wanted at least one grandchild...
i guess i got off kind of lucky sweatdrop
