"Front attacks only work when you have the element of surprise."
She simply turned to the side, held out her arm, and clothelined the kitten.

Lyka had the wind knocked out of her, but she didn't miss the opportunity to claw at the arm. She knew she was outmatched, but every scratch, no matter how small and shallow, counted for somthing. She dug her claws into Vixa's arm as deeply as she could and hung on, waiting to see whether the shamaness would try to fling her away or offer more advice.

Vixa looked down to the kitten hanging from her arm, showing no signs of pain. In fact she smiled.
"Close combat. Think you can handle it?"
With that she took a square punch to Lyka's face.

((Since nobody else is online at ungodly hours of the morning, I'm going to continue for Vixa too.))
She saw Vixa's fist start for her, but Lyka knew she wouldn't be able to move fast enough. She hung on for all she was worth, clamping down on Vixa's arm with her teeth even as the cougar struck her cheek. Lyka felt the world teeter around her. As her conciousness slowly faded, she responded by biting down harder, not able to relax her jaws after she had passed out.

This left Vixa in a rather odd situation. She shook her arm a little, trying to dislodge the unconcious kitten, snarling under her breath.
Lyka's hands had already gone slack, but her teeth remained fixed. Her claws were too short to do any real damage, but her fangs had penatrated almost to the bone.

Finally Vixa sat down and forcefully pried the kitten's jaws apart. She picked up the puddle of blue-grey fur by the scruff of the neck and took her back to the communal fire.Lyka awoke with a start when a bowlfull of cold water was flung in her face. She jumped upwards in fright, almost hitting her head on the ceiling of the cave before she realized where she was."More practice, kitten. Kamikaze moves won't work on just anyone."
With the final bit of advice, Vixa let the kitten drop where she was and stalked back to her cave to put bandages on her arm. The bite wasn't too serious, but it went deep and one could never be sure. It was best to keep it bandaged, despite any questions that Rita might ask.~O~Continued in Journal~O~

~O~Continued From Journal~O~ Lyka walked as purposefully as she had the night before. With each mile she travelled, she grew more determined, although she knew her body would not be able to hold out for long.
Finally, as the first rays of sunlight flitted their way through the sky, Lyka crawled up to the entrance of the Quicktalon home caves. Coughs racked her small frame and her fur was matted and tousled. Daylight seemed to sap her strength and she was no longer able to move, but lay there panting and gasping. With each breath, her shattered shoulder blade cracked loudly and flecks of blood dotted her muzzle from her coughs.

Theta stared into the flames far longer than she intended. As usual, the golden dancing tongues of fire mesmerized her and she began to have glimpses of visions. This happened to her often with the fire.. but she preferred scrying, as fire visions were hazy and blurred at best.
The flames shifted shapes.. turned into what appeared to be an adult cougar. Not enough definition in the form to determine who it could be. A flash of something in her hand. A... sword? Two smaller cougars.. kittens.. one had striped markings.. the other spotted... A buck, wolves... Then.. nothing... Theta shook her head to clear it and furrowed her brow. She really must continue on with her original plan and get to scrying. Something wasn't right.. Did she really see a sword? There were no need for swords.. unless those ninjas had revived.. She frowned and looked back into the fire, hoping for something more before she continued on her way.
This time, she saw one kitten. First, alone.. hiding.. then fighting with an adult. Flashes of the kittem climbing.. a fall.. The child fighting herself to omake her way home.. towards caves.. Wait.. that was familiar.. Theta concentrated and tried to hold the vision.. that was QuickTalon territory!
Shaking her head again, she stood up slowly, tail lashing furiously. That must be a QuickTalon kitten... only one of her cvlan could have the determination and strength to make their way home after such an ordeal. Very well.. she would see if she could find this kitten. Scrying would wait. Members of the clan were important and necessary for her future plans.

She closed her eyes and concentrated on the vision.. which way was the kitten coming towards? Sub-conciously, she pointed herself in the correct direction and began making her way quickly to the entrance.
Upon reaching the entrance, Theta paused and narrowed her eyes, crouching down and searching for any intruders along with the kitten. As the sun slowly crept higher into the sky, shadows cleared and colors shone more brightly, making objects easier to identify. There. Something was odd... She slowly stalked her way closer to the unnatural object and saw a fluff of blue and grey fur and .. blood.. she could smell the metallic scent quite well as she neared the figure. Brow furrowed, she bounded over to what she was sure was the kitten. She was correct. It was alive, struggling to breathe and obviously in pain.
She knelt and touched her lightly, trying to remember the names of the tribes newest members.. "Are you... Lyka, child?" She would not tend to the kitten if she was truly not of her tribe. Not unless she could be molded to the QuickTalon frame of mind... She was sure this was a child of her tribe, but wanted to see if she could still speak and how much strength was left in her.

Lyka tried to quiet herself. Danger and noise often went hand in hand. Her ragged breaths were loud in her ears and she could hear her heart's strained pounding. She struggled to keep her eyes open, the sunlight making her yellow irises flash brightly and blinding her at the same time.
A dark shape loomed over her, blocking out the hateful sun and she tried to reach out to it, but her shoulder cracked loudly and she half-hissed half-growled with the fresh waves of pain.
"..Mother? Rita? Can you tell mother I came home..."
Lyka's vision cleared for a moment and the shapes fell into place as the features of a face that she had only before watched from afar. The movement of the older cougar's silver hair and feathered ornaments made her head swim as she tried to rise to her feet, determined not to appear weak in front of the merciless leader she so admired.
"Cheiftess The-"
Lyka was half on her knees when her ears drooped and her body buckled over. Her vision blurred and cleared repeatedly, and she saw only the Cheiftess's peircing eyes as she blacked out.

Theta's eyes narrowed slightly. The child was worse than she had originally thought. Bruised, bleeding.. and it appeared that her shoulder was badly wounded.. most likely broken. The child was brave.. definitely QuickTalon material. And she still had her wits about her seeing as she was recognized before the kitten passed out. Theta scooped Lyka up in her arms, cradling her gently against her body and turned to make her way back to the caves.
She frowned as she walked slowly and carefully with the child. She needed a healing as soon as possible. Being only a warrior and amage, Theta did not possess enough healing power or knowledge to tend to the young one. She would have to locate Vixa.. and quickly.
Upon entering the home area, she spotted one of the huntresses nearby.
"Rita!" she called out, "Find Vixa immediately and send her to the communal cave. Tell her that she is needed to tend to an injured kitten and to bring all her healing supplies."

Rita stared at the injured kitten, recognizing her as Lyka and nodded to Theta.
"Yes, Chieftess. I will find her immediately."
She bowed and ran off to find Vixa, remembering that she had seen her on the trining grounds earlier. Well no matter if the shamaness was busy. No one disobeyed a direct order from the chieftess.

Theta nodded back at the huntress and continued on her way to the communal cave. She knew Rita would find Vixa and bring her right away. Rita was an excellent huntress and served her chieftess well.
Upon reaching the cave, Theta carefully shifted Lyka so she was resting against her body so she could hold her with one arm, while she reached for blankets and furs with the other. Tossing them in a pile, she gently set Lyka down on the mass of furs and covered her with a light blanket. She kept an eye on the entrance and waited for Vixa to arrive.

"You called for me chieftess?"
The elder cougar walked into the cave the looked down to see the injured kitten.
"What in the world happened here? Rita! Got get my salves and bandages. Also tell Kimae to come and help."
Vixa kneeled down and began to examine the kitten. She found of course all the ourter wounds, then she discovered her shoulder..
"Kitten must have fallen. But she seems to have still guarded herself well from it. First that attack on one of our scouts and then kittens injuring themselves. I tell you Theta, its gotten more hectic around here ever since I heard the spirits whisper of deadly shadows again. I haven't heard that in a long time."

Rita snapped to attention, having been lurking in the cave entrance.
"Yes, Shamaness. I will return quickly."
With that, she turned and bounded off to the shamaness' cave. She spotted the white cougar on her way and waved to her.
"Kimae! You are needed for assistance to the Shamaness. She is at the communal cave. Go there immediately."
She nodded curtly and continued on her way. Upon arriving at the Shamaness' cave, she ducked inside, allowing a minute for her eyes to readjust to the darkness, then located the salves and bandages. Tossing them in a small basket, she bounded back to the cave quickly.
