He took the packet staring at it as if it would come alive in his hands. He turned it round wondering. His short confusion came from his consideration of the sealed up thing. How was anyone supposed to get to what lay within without turning the air blue. While he figured it out in only that way which Micah could, which featured alot of glaring and alot of mumbled expletives, he kept an ever watchful eye out for the point at which the water would boil.

He'd finally got the package open when the question came and his hands stilled but only for a second before placing the noodles into the water that was now boiling. It was something he'd considered on an almost day to day basis when he was captured. Escaping and going home. It was all he'd wanted even as he realised he couldn't. He had realised that fact even more when he'd finally gained his freedom. Alone he'd had no where to go. He could not return home and he could not stay among beings as an animal. He'd just existed on a border, a very lonely border.

"I haven't yet decided." he replied emotionlessly. "If you would like me to leave you only have to give a specific time." He rooted round for something to stir with.

Jyrem watched as Vallyn opened the package and poured the noodles into the water. There was the slightest pause, and for a moment, the other didn't speak. Talking to Vallyn like this wasn't as easy as the panther..the panther, he hadn't know was so able-minded..or so..well, gloomy wasn't exactly the right word, but..

At the response, his eyes widened slightly as he blurted, "No!" The young man paused a moment, and then he came over to the other. Jyrem took hold of one of Vallyn's hands, moving so that he was in front of the other and looking him in the eyes. The hand remained held tightly with Jyrem's own, "Vallyn..I don't want you to leave, of course not. What would I do without my little panther? Without you?" Shaking his head, he pressed a kiss to Vallyn's hand before looking at him again. "If you leave, then I'll come with you. I'll follow you as you've followed me..but I don't want you gone, not ever." Jyrem shook his head again and released the hand, moving to wrap his arms around the other in a tight hug.

Micah wanted to say he didn't care which ever way it was decided but he knew that he would be lying. Horendously. He had no desire to leave. But that would not be a reason for him to stay. He also wanted to say that he was not affected in the least by Jyrem's desire to keep him here. But unfortunately he wasn't able to do that either. At the end of the day one of his terrible weaknesses was pride. He was very much used to cutting of his own nose to spite his face.

He did however stand a little stiffly in the hug he found himself in. He tried not to let it show but happiness filled every pore of his being. So important was being wanted. He pulled out of the arms that held him turning back to the pan before the warm happiness spread to his expression and gave him away completely. "a simple 'I dont want you to go' would have been enough" he said gruffly feigning as much aloofness as he could. Yet after a moments arkward silence on his part he did mumble almost quietly "thank you for sharing your home with me at such a time." and that almost rigidly formal sentence was the closet he managed to the grattitude he held within.

(o-o that line about the nose and the face ROCKED)

Jyrem waited for a response, but as usual, the other took his time in giving anything back. Vallyn's posture was stiff and he made no move to reciprocate the hug. Though after a moment, he pulled away, leaving Jyrem slightly disappointed yet again. And then he heard the gruff voice and a faint smile curved his lips, "Enough to what," he teased. Silence descended again, only to be broken by a mumbled thank you on Vallyn's part. He blinked in surprise, before the smile widened, "You are welcome, Vallyn. There is no one else I would rather share my home with than you."

Cheered now, he turned back to what he was doing. He pulled out chicken meat and set it on a long pan, seasoning it with various herbs before setting it in the oven to cook. Once completed, he turned back to making the sauce. First off, he poured the cheese into the pan and then motioned for Vallyn, "Would you please get the milk, and then pour some in this pan?" The sauce was a huge part of the meal, it wouldn't be the same without the sauce.

ooc; hehe thanks ^^

It was with an almost obsessive determination that he watched the pot, his desire not to ruin the meal. Jyrem had seemingly put his trust in his ability to make good, preferably 'edible', noodles and he did not trust his antiquated and completely basic cooking skills to leave it unattended but for any amount of time. He declined to mention that his antiquated cooking skills were basic at best. The most cooking he'd done, nay 'any' of his kind did consisted of a spit roast served with a bed of leaves and only because it wasn't easy to digest raw meat in this form. That and that alone was the only reason they cooked. The females were better at it granted but it was still not done too often.

Needless to say then that watching people cook had been carried out with a quiet kind of amazement even as he scoffed at such a completely unecessary extravagance. It had never stopped him eating though. He wondered...if he could learn. Would he have time to, how long would he stay like this. Could he now choose when he took animal form again?

The almost preoccupied motion for him to approach was taken with no reproach. He was curious all on his own and had already started on his way to him without thinking. He fetched the milk but hesitated looking to Jyrem for some sort of guidance as to how much exactly was 'some' and the irony wasn't lost on him. He was usually the one doing the leading or in better terms doing things all his own way in the most stubbornly headstrong manner that was a in every way very Micah-esque.

Jyrem was lost in his thoughts as he worked on preparing the meal. Vallyn was a human now..what would happen? The other didn't seem inclined to leave, yet at least, but that hardly meant anything for the future..and moreover.."Hey, Val..are there any others like you?"

As the other came to pour the milk, he guided Vallyn's hand to the pan and by placing his fingers to the glass container, showed Vallyn how much to pour. He then clarified his question, "I thought familiars were all..well, magicked animals..so why..?" Jyrem hadn't yet grasped the magnitude of even a single person having such a punishment put on them..it didn't cross his mind that the fear that people held to suddenly vanish, though they didn't know it, came from the possibility of being snatched and taken as a familiar.

Micah looked at Jyrem at his question, brow furrowing as always as he considered thoughtfully what he was being asked. Others like him? He thought back, realising something he hadn't had the mind to at the time. He'd never considered that there might be others. At least he couldn't recall ever being around another. He'd always been kept seperate and alone. Deemed too feral. But now that he thought about it, there had been one or two animals he'd seen, in the brief moments when there was actually some activity and he was moved, that hadn't seemed 'right'.

"I don't know." he replied an almost imperceptable shudder touching him like a cold finger.Perhaps the process was bound to create some abnormalities. He couldn't quite remember much of the process, only that it had hurt and the words. He couldn't remember the exact words but they were there like an almost forgotten nightmare. It had hurt almost more than physical endurance could bear, as if being bent and reformed while fully consious of the fact. In comparision his first transformation had been a mere cuddle.

"Maybe I'm the exception" he said. It was easy enough to lie. It wasn't something he wanted to expose Jyrem to. The last thing he wanted was for him to go round looking upon every familiar searching for phantoms that may not even exist. He'd only try to save the world where in reality there was nothing he could do. Micah watched him out of the corner of his eye briefly before speaking again. From the look on that face he knew what was going on behind it.

"Don't try to understand it...you won't. Instead consider that mayhaps the punishment suited the crime. After all, I killed in cold blood, i didn't give my victims a chance to defend themselves and die dignified." He almost made an annoyed sound. They hadn't deserved it as far as he had been concerned, nevertheless he should never have fallen to their level.

"'if' there are any others then perhaps comfort yourself with the thought that they were unredeemable." He put the container down moving away almost silently.

Jyrem watched as the other furrowed his brow and genuinely considered his question. Was that a good sign, or a bad one? Surely Vallyn knew if there had been others..or if he'd been alone..how many familiars were people? What could he do if they were? He still didn't even know how Vallyn had regained his form.

"Don't know?" How couldn't he know? That would have been one of Jyrem's first questions..wondering if there were others like him.."But what if you're not the exception? What if there are more? We..I," he wasn't going to lump Vallyn into it if he didn't even care,"Have to help them..what you did wasn't right..but neither was trapping you like that. And what if there were others too, some that just got trapped? Children have gone missing, do you think they did something wrong that earned being taken away?"

He was clearly upset and frustrated at the thought. And at the near annoyed sound and words, he narrowed his eyes slightly, though they softened as he asked quietly, "Do you think you're unredeemable, Micah?" He used the other's birth name for the first time. Jyrem stepped close to Vallyn and frowned, "Even if they were unredeemable..trapping them is wrong, and giving people like that to others is wrong. I wouldn't have wanted one of them for a familiar. I'd rather have been alone."

He was referring to actual unredeemable people, not thinking on how it woul d sound to Vallyn..not until a moment later when his eyes widened slightly but it was too late.

He ran his hand through his hair, closing his eyes least he roll them in aggravation. He hadn't expected anything less from Jyrem, that innocent desire to right wrongs without truely considering the mamoth task it would really be. He admired it, that ability to do right and the consequences be damned. Still it was a most impossible task and the fact that he couldn't see that irritated him. Bad things happened and then you died, such was life. To spend time worrying about things you couldn't change was pointless.

"there is nothing to indicate that children were or are made into familiars." Just because they happened to be missing didn't make Micah believe they could have been subjected to what he'd been. He doubted they would live through it wasn't a theory he shared with Jyrem, his words stung him relentlessly. Now that the idea had been birthed it niggled at him like a nagging wife. Then there was the visible distress and frustrated annoyance on Jyrem's face and in his voice. He considered if it had been wise to not simply feign complete and total ignorance.

The sound of his name coming from those lips for the first time caught his attention instantly but whatever sense of surprise he might have gained from hearing his name spoken for the first time in years died instantly at the rest of Jyrem's words.

...I'd rather have been alone.

Micah's eyes narrowed and for a long second his face lost any kind of expression. It was simply as if a blanket had fallen. When he spoke his voice was flat with a hint of anger. Anger directed at what he didn't know. Even in his anger he realised he couldn't very well be angry at Jyrem for being honest but then where did that but all their time.

"Sorry to have imposed on you for so long." he snapped almost childishly hurt by something that he felt ideally he should not give a seconds thought. He should be used to it by now. "I didn't know my presence was so morally reprehensible."

But he did give it thought. And he wasn't used to it, no.
Muttering something beneath his breath he turned on his heel and headed out of the kitchen ears twitching with a barely concealed annoyance he no longer hid.
PostPosted: Tue Sep 30, 2008 4:19 pm

Jyrem considered his friends words. Perhaps there was no proof..but who knew? Why not children, they'd live longer wouldn't they? He was thinking in terms of lifespan, not ability to survive. A big difference when considering a transformation like becoming a familiar. The way Vallyn said it though made him think that his companion was considering the possibility..or at least thinking over his words.

The other's attention was piqued at the name, Jyrem could tell..and he'd wished he'd spoken it sooner so that he could have seen the surprise unmarred by his next foolish words. At the snap, he flinched and remorse assailed him. The other headed out of the kitchen, and with barely a thought he went after the other.

He knew better than to try a physical approach if the other was upset, so instead, he walked infront of Vallyn, blocking his path and as he looked the other square in the eyes. "I didn't mean it like that, Va..Micah," perhaps using the others birth name would show on his part that he really did think of Micah as a person too, not just a familiar..not just an imposing person. "I meant on someone who was truly unredeemable, someone who goes around raping women or beating children for fun..that sort of person..I wouldn't want someone like that near me as a familiar or otherwise..but you.."

Jyrem stepped closer to the other, finally placing a hand on his friends shoulder and giving it a firm squeeze, "You aren't like that, Micah..you're a good person..having you in my life has been a blessing and I'd spend my whole life alone in exchange for a single moment with you if I had to..you didn't deserve to be trapped, Mic," he already had an endearment of that name now too,"You're not bad..you're not unredeemable..you're my best friend.." Jyrem then moved in and gave the other a hug, this time it was around Michah's upper arms, expecting no reciprocation but giving fully and warmly as he pressed his cheek against Vallyn's.

As his path was blocked he growled low in his throat the sound rumbling through clenched teeth "Let me pass Achi" he began without a please, thank you or by your leave even falling into his native tongue without realising. Yet he didn't move a finger to touch him or even push him aside as he could easily have decided to. He knew however that he could never bring himself to physically harm him. That he concluded probably added to his annoyance. He met those eyes only for a stubborn second stilled by the sound of his name and the ghosts it awoke from his past.

He felt like his identity was being reaffirmed, made more real every time his name was said. It brought forth all manner of memories and feelings but more importantly it brought 'him'. However not the good person that Jyrem thought he was but it was said with such belief that he had the grace to feel distinctly embarassed again.

His hands reached up, not to embrace him but instead to pry him off "Don't be so pointlessly emotional." said the pot calling the kettle black as it simmered away suffused in a glow of warmth. Compliments or affection of any kind...it seemed he was going to have to get used to them without being made to feel like an inexperienced cub. It was much easier to shrug off when he was a panther. Micah placed his hands on his shoulders turning him round till he was now behind Jyrem.

"I think it wise to keep an eye on the meal." he said with a small gesture towards the unattended meal in progress. "I have 'noodles' to attend to." he said pointedly brooking no further discussion on the matter.
PostPosted: Fri Oct 03, 2008 7:32 am

Jyrem heard the growl as his companion spoke in a language unfamiliar to Jyrem, whose expression became puzzled a moment. The other was upset, and rightly so after what he'd said..but he hadn't meant it towards Micah..of course not..Micah was dearest to him of everyone and everything in all of the world..didn't he understand that?

And then hands reached up, forcing him from Micah with a comment that saddened Jyrem, whose shoulders slumped slightly. "Pointlessly? I see.." Was he being so emotional, did Micah truly hate being touched by Jyrem so very much?

Jyrem felt himself being turned around as Micah gestured to the meal. True, they did need to get back to cooking..but at the same time, he wanted to reassure Micah. He started to walk away, but paused to say quietly, "Emotional or not, I do care about you more than anyone else..as always.." Jyrem continued then into the kitchen, stirring his sauce.

ooc; sorry missed your post. I was put on the late shift this week T^T I don't like it one little bit. It's simply the most horrendous thing.
----------------------------------

"I know." He said simply without looking at him. It was almost an automatic response. It was said with no irritation of any kind it was simply matter of fact. Yet he didn't elaborate further.

Was he meant to say that he'd appreciated every single day that they had spent together, or rather say that even when he got irritated or angry it was nine times out of ten at himself and his inability to adequately express things without feeling like it was a weakness of sorts. Perhaps he should say he envied Jyrem's ability to just be himself and so utterly honest about what he did and didn't feel even when it bordered emotions and feelings like appreciation, friendship, love.

Micah had spent alot of time being shown nothing but harsh words and crititisms, kindness was rare...fleeting. His hold on most anything good he'd had had been tentative at best. He'd probably never get used to expressing himself with the same kind of ease Jyrem had.

But he still didn't like that sad note that seemed to hang in the air. It felt like disappointment too. As much as he would like to deny it he was far too atuned to Jyrem's feelings to get any peace from his soul for every moment those feelings were unsettled.

"Give me time..." he said quietly still not looking at him "to get used to this." and by 'this' he meant everything, being able to trust, being able to interact in a less socially inept way, having form again, kindness...everything that he'd spend over a hundred years learning wrong.

(No worries, I've been pretty slow myself. o-o awwwwww *pats head and givez you a cookie* T__T)

Jyrem heard only a simple response from Micah. No reciprocation, no acceptance, no gladness..he simply responded. He was saddened and disappointed that the other seemed so distant..so unreachable. Hadn't Jyrem taken care of him all of this time? Didn't he know that he could trust Jyrem, always? Jyrem trusted Micah implicitly.

The sauce was finally finished and he set it aside. The chicken would be done soon and the noodles were nearly finished as well..and then he would pull out the bread. Words were spoken and he turned in surprise, looking to Micah. The words were quiet..but..they were some of the kindest Micah had spoken.

Jyrem felt his lips curve into a smile, "All the time in the world, my friend." Still smiling, he moved to get the things prepared..setting things and mixing as it was finally completed. The end result was pasta covered in a creamy white sauce, sprinkled with parmeason cheese and topped with chicken, a piece of bread on the side. He set the plates down on the table, "Whalah..fettechini alfredo with chicken and parmeason cheese." Jyrem poured them some water and sat down, watching Micah with a smile as he waited for the other's taste test and opinion. Jyrem knew this would be his first true meal in a very, very long time.

He had to admit, Jyrem seemed to have outdone himself this time. It was almost too elaborate to eat. The smelll drifted up to his noseand he thought that almost didn't exactly qualify as completely. As if led by the smell he practically sank down before it. A part of him thought he at least ought to appreciate it before bulldozing his way through it as he knew he would do.

Micah had started eating even before he relised used to this lack of manners. Usually nothing had to be said, he couldn't have. Yet it was different now and he soon realised this fact even if it came at three mouthfulls in. He isntantly looked contrite. "Sorry." he mumbled. Then swallowing he continued "Thank you for the meal." Then he resumed eating this time making a consious effort to take measured, deliberate portions of his food. He didn't look up the silence that had followed his earlier display slightly worried about actually looking up. Worried about what he would find.

Beneath the fall of hair his ears twitched in slight agitation. Maybe it would be wise to eat somewhere else till he got used to eating with decorum again.
