Renji groaned. He felt like s**t and it was obvious. The healing barrier that Unohana had set up was brilliant. It brought him back to life. But that didn't mean he wasn't still recovering. First off, he was hungry. Second, he could barely move at the moment. Rukia arrived just in time to see him sit up. He wanted to comfort Momo, but he wasn't really in the position to do so. All he could do was lay there. "Rukia... Momo. Hitsugaya-taichou fought his hardest. He wouldn't want you to be sad over him. He would want you to move on and get better. I know because that's what I was thinking as I felt my life slipping away too. I can't believe that he thought anything different."

That was it, it was to much to take. Matsumoto had been MIA for way to long. The hold ups just kept coming as she felt the dread of something horrible coming to light, weighting down in the depths of her soul. Hitsugaya needed her and she was not by his side, even though she was not one of the most skilled fighters she could still hold her own in battle and knew where she needed to be, beside her captain fighting to the end and hoping that her's would not quite come yet. Rushing as quickly as she could in the direction of Sokyoku hill she struggled to push these thoughts far from her mind. He would be alright, he was the child prodigy moving through the ranks quicker then most any other captain there was no way he was injured or even worse...dea-...no she wouldn't think like that. It was not possible and she would be damn sure it never happened. Since Gin had left Hitsugaya had been the only person able to keep her afloat, able to keep her from crumbling, perhaps not quite in the ways as Hinamori, but turning into a shell of her former person. Depressed and serious, a complete 180 to what she was before the war. If anything happened to her captain now she didn't know what she would do.

Arriving on the hill top to a somber crowed Matsumoto looked wildly around at the others, her ice blue eyes immediately landing on Hinamori's weak figure. "....no...." Was all she could whisper shaking her head, fighting back the tears she was afraid would fall even if she had not yet seen the body she now knew to be there. Sliding her sword into its sheath the vice-captain of the tenth division took a slow step forward towards the body she now saw, the body of a boy, not quite a man and much younger then her though all the stronger of will and power. How could he have fallen. Her eyes slowly roved over his soft facial features, kind and loving, making their way down to the gaping hole in his chest. That was enough to do it. This proud and strong woman could no longer hold in the pain she felt. Biting her lip to stop the screams she wanted to release from her body she allowed the tears to flow, cascading down her cheeks like twin rivers now scattering the ground. She bent down on her knees picking up one of his limp lifeless hands in her own holding it close to her heart. She had always been there for him, talking him into going to the academy after Hinamori ..... watching him rise in the ranks..... becoming his own vice-captain .... so much time had passed yet it all seemed to have gone in the blink of an eye.

Letting the hand drop softly to the ground Matsumoto pushed herself up wiping away the tears from her face which was now set in a stone like frown. It was now time for her to step up, time for her to take command of her division and avenge the death of her captain. She could be weak alone in her room, in the safety of the walls she called home but not here, not now in front Unohana. Turning to face them she let out a sigh. "What happened here?" She asked, not using her respectful tone and not really caring. She would have to run her division until someone new was appointed so stepping down just because she may be intimidated was out of the question.

((sorry its taken me so long. I honestly forgot I had Matsumoto in this RP.... I hope this post works out though ))

Hinamori stared at Renji and Rukia in silence, her hands loosely hanging beside her as she blinked once. Why. It was the question that kept raising up inside of her. Why was he dead. Why was she alive. Why was Rukia allowed to still have Renji. Why couldn't she have protected him like he had protected her. Why wasn't she in time to help. Why. Why why why why! She swallowed a few times when Rukia whispered her name, swallowing again and again. She wanted to push her feelings back, she wanted to show she had gotten stronger. She could deal with this. She would be strong for Hitsugaya...

The problem was... She couldn't deal with this. In his own way, Hitsugaya had always been the one to keep her up... After. Before. Now. And never again...

He was dead.

Renji spoke.. Renji spoke about how he had fought his hardest-- 'If you know that... Why weren't you there to help him out...' --that he wouldn't have wanted her to be sad over him-- 'That's like asking me not to breathe...' --and finally, he stated that he was thinking that too as his life was slipping away.

Hitsugaya was dead.

Her lifelong best friend was dead.

How could she not be sad.... How could she not be devastated?

And now Rangiku-san had arrived...

Her eyes slowly drifted over to the blonde-haired, eyes still red from the tears she had been crying; and the tears that were threatening to spill again at the sight of the tenth vice-captain. Oh the good times she had gotten with those two... Oh the days that had long past...

Her breathing hitched again, even though she tried to stay calm; the tears were slipping down again, even though she tried to keep them at bays. And the heartache returned worse then ever.

Even though she felt like she would never feel anything again.

"He's... Really..." she whispered softly.

Aizen... Everything. The betrayal... The pain... The confusion afterwards. More pain. The way Hitsugaya had tried to cheer her up. Her questioning him to save Aizen. Everything. Everything. EVERYTHING!!

A scream slipped over her lips as she shut her eyes tightly, her knees buckling underneath her as she dropped to the ground, hiding her face upon her arms. How could she accept this...? How could she accept that Shiro-chan was gone? How could she accept that her little guardian was gone? Her best friend? How could she accept it...!?

((OMG i forgot about byaky and atsu, lol, what should I make them do? doesn't Atsu need to take the capatain's test? where do I send him?))

Byakuya straightened his Haori then shunpo'd headed towards his squad building to assess the damage on his squad. Atsutane followed behind.

Unohana had stepped back from the drama, the maelstrom of emotions -- torrid emotions. Her accustom to death had not made it easy to lose a fellow a shinigami, 'specially a fellow captain that was young and innocent. For her, the calm visage of acceptance was all she could do to accept it. However, she accepted it after a short while. He did not die in vain. He was conscious of his decisions.

Unohana lightly stepped forward. A piece of her sadness falling with each step. When she reached Hinamori she laid her hand on her shoulder while trying to comfort her. There was nothing to say. She soon took to the side of Hitsugaya's dead body.

"Excuse me, everyone, but now the body of Hitsugaya Toushiro, former 10 squad captain will be covered."

She took a burial shroud and covered his upper body with it. Making sure to cover the face. She had mind to incinerate his body there. However, she felt that as his zanpakutou was ice it wouldn't fit. Regardless to say that it wasn't proper to not give him a burial.

((Nice post, RuIe, but earlier the person who killed Hitsugaya took his Haori after he had been killed and is currently wearing it. Please edit when you get the chance.))

Renji shut his eyes at the sound of Momo's voice. Then Matsumoto appeared. This was too much. The two people who cared the most for Hitsugaya were here, and both were certainly heartbroken. Whatever he said or did would not be received as it was meant. He wanted to comfort his fellow Lieutenants, but the words capable of doing so were not there. To make matters worse Rukia had shut herself off it seemed. She was crying one moment but then there was a significant change in the feel of her reiatsu. She was no longer sad it seemed. No, she felt more stoic than normal, almost entirely emotionless. What happened? Renji couldn't tell. His body hurt too much to move at the moment and all he could do was open his eyes and speak with subtle movements of his head and neck. "What a s**t situation..." he muttered. He lay there nearly dead, Atsutane and Byakuya were realatively fine, Momo was a mess, Rangiku was clearly broken though she refused to show it, and Rukia had suddenly become something completely unfamiliar for her personality type. "Damn it..."

Atsutane reappeared on the hill, he sat beside the other wounded members and waited for someone to help him. His right shoulder was bleeding through his kimono due to a sword cut along with scrapes on his hand's and a large bruise on his left cheek. "please heal everyone else, I can still manage for a while" Lied Atsutane as his vision blurred a bit. He didn't want anyone else to die today, especially not from his own needs.

Unohana had stepped to the aid of the young Atsutane. She had been given specific orders to care for the captain examinees. Though something was off, the residual aura lef by the wound had shocked her for a bit. So he's returned, exiled Captain Kenji Kawasaka. She took a look at his wound and caught him as he fainted. With a bright voice she communicated to the unconscious male, "you're safe now, here, in my arms, you'll live."

And so, work was to be done, being done, and was done in no time. Now, all she had to do was deliver him to his squad building.

"Sakujyoshinasai, Minazuki"

The giant green manta ray spilled from her zanpakutou in a green mist forming itself shortly after being released.

"Minazuki, swallow him."

Minazuki understood who to swallow instantly and poked his tongue to begin digestive healing on Atsutane. Unohana then climbed on top of her shikai. "6th squad, Minazuki."

Once they were at the 6 squad Minazuki spat out Atsutane. She order to nearby 6th squad members to carry him inside while she went to talk to the captain, Kuchiki Byakuya.

Matsumoto could no longer handle what was unraveling before her. Her captain was dead....her friend.... the one person she could confide in now that Gin had turned his back on her was taken away.... in one moment her whole world had come crashing down. She glanced at Momo eyes narrowing. Sure the girl had lost someone too but this was no way for a vice-captain to behave, even if on the inside she felt the same. Without a word she turned and walked t the edge of the hill looking off into the distance. Now more then ever she was needed. She would be required to head up her division until someone else was placed in charge and she wanted to make sure that they stood strong. If Kira and Hisagi could do it why not her. Her after all was older then both of them with more experience she would insure that Hitsugaya had not died in vain.

Taking off quickly she moved heading in the direction of her office. It was the only place she would be able to pull herself together. Home reminded her to much of Gin and right now she would rather be reminded of her captain then of that snake. It took her very little time to arrive as she threw the door open and walked to Hitsugaya's desk. There a wave of emotions erupted. Anger, sorrow....pain..... leaning forward she broke down much like Hinamori though in a quieter way. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she silently sobbed into her arms head down on her captains desk.
