...here to fine another 'friend'? Her reaction was instantous as she reached up to slap him, tears bubbling in the corners of her eyes. Her palm stung and there was a slight itchiness, as if she'd just clapped her hands together. Glaring at him, Temperance was unable to put her thoughts into words. Dropping her glance, she looked down at their feet, her tears falling and leaving trails. "I didn't mean to hurt you," she whispered, her hands fisted. She hated this, not knowing what to say, how to make things better.

Or rather, she knew, but Tempi knew he wouldn't understand, not really. The deeper their relationship became, the more she realized he wanted more than she did. She'd wanted to end the relationship before she hurt him even more.

((Hey, Shadow, that last part's more an assumption of how I think it would play out, so just let me know if you want me to change it. It won't be a problem, either way.))

Kimiko's response didn't surprise him that much. She was the good, kind girl who wouldn't get mad unless it was necessary. 'Ah, Kimiko, how are you gonna get through life if you keep acting like this...', he thought to himself. Friends, she had said just before, ...if you want to be just friends....

When the hostess had announce that the exes would meeting and talking to each other now, Jake was glad that he and Kimiko already had the conversation before the camera had began rolling. He gave a sigh and turned to face her again but he saw her back facing him.

"Ah, man..." he said and cussed under his breath. He knew that she was trying to keep herself from crying. So instead he turned back facing the ocean and just stood there silently. He hated this. Who created this stupid show? He knew the others were probably abhorring the idea of coming onto this show if they had to meet their exes again. He came here to meet another girl and move on from the past, and that's how he planned it. He shouldn't be bothered much about Kimiko. It was over for them anyways, he thought.

"Don't cry..." he managed to say in a tone that only she could hear. "It's not worth it. You'll move on and be fine." After that, he kept silent and just stood there to wait for the 'meeting the exes' part to be over with.

Alice really wanted to be snotty, and agree with him, her nose in the air. But she refrained. However, she didn't force herself to smile back either. It was useless to pretend she was fine - Marlo could detect the way she was feeling right now. It was difficult to forgive him, impossible to forget. A slap resounded in the background. She forced her hands down to her sides, hoping she wouldn't flip out as well. What could she say, 'thanks'? "So it didn't work out with her?" Alice asked, staring him down. See, you hurt me for nothing! They both knew who she was referring to. Some best friend, some boyfriend. She would never betray someone the way that she had been betrayed. By the two most important people in her life, no less. The tears were on the verge of escaping. Could he see? Did she care?

At Faye's words, Riley recoiled as if he'd been struck. He looked down. "I'll pay for it," he said quietly. It didn't really matter to him how long it would take, or how many hours he had to work. Of course she was still mad, and of course he deserved it. But that didn't mean he wasn't hurt. Don't I even get a hello? He supposed that she had really cared about the vehicle more than him. Maybe she had realized that too - maybe that was why she was here. He wanted to put this behind him so badly. Maybe then he really could get the second chance that he was looking for. Maybe she could even be happy for him, and he for her.

Kimiko calmed down a bit, but still was a bit depressed. "I'm not crying..." She whispered, pouting in her mind. 'If I was...I would be running away by now...'

Kimiko was still thinking a bit, but the show was on. She reasoned herself about the relationship and the reason she was here. 'It's all my friend's fault...she tricked me...and I lost a bet...' That was from before, after the breakup, Kimiko's friends could not stand her being so depressed, and that was a bad thing. A depressed Kimiko is bad because she would usually cook and cook like there's no tomorrow, but since that food poisoning accident, she quit cooking altogether, even if it was her passion.

Kimiko frozed a bit, when he added that she should move on. She was trying to, but with the fact that she could not cook no more, she could not go on. 'How can I be fine...? I can't cook anymore without worrying' She thought. She was getting a bit frustrated, but she sighed and turned around again with a bright smile, showing no indication of sadness. 'Suck it up...I have to be strong...'

"Of course..."
Kimiko said in a sweetly but soft voice. "I am moving on..." She tried to come up with something to say. "That's why I am here...isn't it?"

((Even if he wasn't, I could see him coming off that way, so it's fine. Really, I haven't decided yet.))

Cole's head swung to the side at the force of her open palm against his cheek. He gave no emotional response to the slap, however. He only stood there with his head still to the side, staring blankly at the ground.
After a moment, he brought his head back up to the normal upright position and slowly rubbed the side of his cheek with his hand.
"Didn't mean to hurt me? I'm sure. You just did it on accident." He said, his voice void of all emotion.
"But really....." He added, looking back up at her. "Did they bring you here? As a trick? Because I'm sure that a girl like you has had no trouble forgetting about me and moving on the in the last six months. You wouldn't need any help finding a new 'boyfriend', so why the hell would you come here?" The hint of anger in his voice had come back as his sentence went on, his voice getting louder and louder.
His temper was gone, set off by everything happening so quickly. He couldn't hold himself back, either.
There was a small part of him that hated doing this, that hated being so mean to the girl he still had such feelings for, but his temper had squashed that voice of reason. He needed something to make him snap out of it, something that would make him realize what he was doing.

Jake's mind wandered around the place, hoping to keep his mind occupied with something else other than Kimiko at the moment. He heard a slap from one of the exes that was down in the front of the line. 'Wow, that was intense..., he thought.

At the corner of his eyes, he could see Kimiko turning to face him again and had a bright smile on her face. He listened to her words and couldn't help but smile. He ended up chuckling and nodded in agreement. "That's right," he said before looking over at her with a grin, "That's why both of us are here. Good luck...Miss Kimiko." He felt glad that he wasn't have too much trouble with his ex as the others were.

She flinched at his words, knowing she deserved the venom, at the very least. It could be worse, she thought as she stared at the ground. As the tears slowly began to stop, Tempi wiped them away harshly, hating that sign of weakness. Ever since she was a child she'd been told her tears wouldn't make things better, wouldn't get her what she wanted. "Just because you cry doesn't automatically mean some one's going to help you." That happened to be a favorite saying of her mothers. Still, it hadn't stopped her from crying, not once; it was one of the few things in her life Tempi was unable to control. That, and her heart.

There was one thing she had to say and she wasn't going to hesitate anymore in doing so. Sighing, she finally looked up at him, a little bit of steel determination darkening her eyes. If he was so determined to hurt her, so be it. If he wanted to know so badly, fine. She would tell him the truth, finally. Stepping closer until they were merely an inch apart, she stood on the tips of her toes so she could look him in the eye. "It would have hurt you more, if I had stayed."

Then she backed away, putting more space between them. Standing so close to him, she'd been tempted to lean into him, the act normal and almost habitual. Almost.

There was no mirth in her eyes as she studied him silently, no anger. There was just...honesty. "You can say what you want, call me a whore or a user all you want, if that's what happens to be running through your mind. But what I felt for you, the place you had in my heart, it was real, no matter what you think." She looked away from him then and wrapped her arms around herself in a hug, cold despite the heat. If he decided after this that he...still hated her, Tempi wasn't sure what she could say. Feeling the need to voice that thought, she glanced at him out of the corner of her eye. "I understand that you hate me and I just wanted you to know I...get that. You have a right to. And I won't try to change your mind about it."

Cole paused as the emotion that had been fueling him this entire timed seem to drain out of his body. He just stared at Tempi with a look of slight shock on his face, not saying anything, just letting the words sink in.
What was this? His mind reeled as he thought about what she had just said.
Then he thought about what he had said.
He blinked a few times before an almost sad expression came on his face.
He turned away from her and brought his hand up to his face again, holding his thumb and forefinger over his temples.
"I.....I don't hate you.....I'm sorry.....I didn't mean....." He stuttered, his voice much softer, almost inaudible.
"Please, forget what I said. I didn't mean....to say those things....I have trouble controlling myself when my temper gets out of hand....I say things I don't mean.....and I apologize."
He brought his hand away from his face and turned to face her again.
"You were right to let me go. I just need to accept that. So please just forget about me, about this. You try your best to move on and I will as well." He finished.
He bit his lip to keep himself from doing anything else. He had gotten the urge to hug her just then but he forced himself not to.
'It would only make things worse....I can't.'

Dayton grinned, glad that Leila wasn't being malicious and wasn't still angry at him. He heard a slap in the background but ignored it, surprised that it actually hadn't happened to him. Maybe Leila had gotten better at controlling her temper. "No need to feel guilty," Dayton said, knowing that she wouldn't anyways. "I already bought a new TV. A better one." His eyes twinkled with mischief, thinking of when she had tossed his out the window. Overreaction, much? He hadn't exactly been devastated then, just dumbfounded. At the time Dayton didn't know what he had done wrong, nor did he know why she would barge into his place and toss his TV out the window. Looking back on it now, it was actually kind of amusing. But mostly annoying.

Faye sighed as he apologized, instantly regretting the venom that had inhabited her voice. "I'm sorry," she said, grudgingly. She knew she had to say it, and actually wanted to. "You don't have to pay for it, my dad already did." She almost reached out to touch him, an act of instinct, but instead balled her hands into fists. The silence that followed was awkward. But how could she explain to him that it wasn't just the car (although that was mostly what it was), but the way that the incident had effected her. When Faye heard about the car crash, she wanted to know about her car before him. How sick was that? She couldn't live knowing that maybe, just maybe, she cared about her car more than her boyfriend.

She wasn't sure if what she was about to do would make everything worse or not, but she thought it might be needed to put a final ending to their past relationship. She hesitated for only a moment, before stepping forward and wrapping her arms loosley around him in a hug. Vaguely she noticed he was taller than she remembered, the top of her head just barely reaching his shoulders. Then again, maybe she'd just shrunk a few inches. "We're...done, but I won't forget about you. Promise."

After a few seconds, she backed away again and held out her hand for a handshake. There was a soft smile on her face as she looked up at him and her words were loud enough only for him to hear. "So...friends?"

She said it in a way that conveyed she didn't want to, but she had said sorry all the same. Riley was able to flash a shadow of a smile in her direction. "I feel bad though," he said, "about ... the car." No, about everything. It was just hard to say. But somehow, he felt like a small part of the guilt was shifting off of his shoulders. Maybe this confrontation was what he had needed after all. Look at him, learning things from reality television. Tch. Anyway, she didn't seem mad at him anymore. That was enough. He moved forward hesitantly, almost as if the slightest movement could scare her off. He was never good with words - maybe this. Delicately he kissed her forehead. "I forgive you," he said. Did she forgive him? His eyes were questioning as he backed away.

Cole felt his heart beating at the inside of his chest as Tempi hugged him. The feeling of her arms around him brought back old, familiar memories. He quickly pushed them aside as they would only make things harder for both of them. 'Friends.' He thought as he slowly returned the hug.
He looked down at her with a sort of soft smile as she pulled back. He would have to force himself to remember that they were friends now every time he saw her. Nothing more.
He nodded as he felt his heart race slowing down back to it's regular pace.
"Yeah...." He said as he took her hand and shook it lightly.
He couldn't help but feel a mixture of feelings. He was relieved, for one, maybe now he would be able to get past everything he had been angry about in the last six months. Then there was a mixture of happiness and a bit of regret at the same time. From the moment he had seen her walk down the path to the beech, he had wanted to make amends, maybe fix their broken relationship. But there was a part of him that knew that would never work. He would have to forget about that and move on. That was what coming here was for anyway, right?

He smiled again, more to himself this time. He thought for a moment about what he should say. He didn't want to let there be an awkward silence between them, especially at that moment.
"I guess we'll be living in the same house for some time now, then. That may prove to be interesting since....." He paused as he looked over at the other groups. "...it would appear that there are other pairs of ex's."

Leila envied whoever had the guts to slap someone. Her fists clenched at the mention of feeling guilty, knuckles turning white from stress. Her lips tightened into a furious line as she looked up at Dayton with ticked brown eyes.

"Guilty," she smirked. "You think I feel guilty? I admit Dayton, you have nerve. But lets get one thing straight. I do not feel guilty," she stated strongly, looking him straight on.

-----

Marlo bit his lip at her comment. Would it be wrong to tell her it hadn't lasted a day? He knew the look on her face all to well. He remembered himself, whenever she was upset, his arms around Alice.

"It...didn't go very far," he mumbled, looking up at her with depressed eyes.

He hated seeing her like this. But Marlo should have known that what he'd done would do this to her.

"You here...to start over," the male asked hesitantly.

Faye flinched when he kissed her on the forehead, surprised. Didn't he consider that to be a bit too familiar? They weren't anything now... If anything, they were only friends. And her other friends didn't kiss her on the forehead. But she wasn't angry, really, just nervous. "It's okay," Faye said finally, looking at the ground instead of into his eyes. She didn't want to know what emotion was shown on them now. Regret? Sorrow? Anger? No, she doubted that he would be angry with her, although she probably deserved it. "It's just a car. It's not like somebody died," she said with a forced laugh. But he could have died. What would she have thought? Would she have cried? Helped arrange his funeral? She couldn't even think about that. Besides, Riley didn't have any injuries from the crash. She shouldn't be worrying herself over nothing.

"No, actually," Dayton said with a small sigh. "I doubted you would feel guilty." He looked straight back at her, but his gaze was less intense. Had he truly gotten over her? At least he didn't feel the urge to make any contact with her right now, other than conversation. But it was fun to see her a bit miffed with him, and to see her smile again. Well, smirk again. "But I just wanted to reassure you, just in case." He grinned sheepishly, eyes still locked onto hers. "And don't worry about me, either. I don't feel one bit guilty," he continued, pausing slightly after every word with confidence.

It didn't go very far. Alice knew she should feel a little satisfied with this. She wasn't, not really. At least her eyes weren't watering any longer. She looked away though. "Starting over? No, not really. I can't go back to how I used to be." It was suprising to her that she could admit this to him. Maybe because she no longer cared what he thought. "I can't say I forgive you, you know," she said, turning to face him again. If anything, Alice was usually honest.
