Personally I like Cloud better, but that's probably because out of Final Fantasy VII, and Crisis Core, VII was the only one I beat.
Although, Zack did a lot for Cloud towards the end of his life didn't he? I guess I should finish Crisis Core. >.<

Zack. Cloud lied aout his past in FF7 and used Zack's story. He didnt kill Sephiroth in the reactor on MT. Nibel, Zack did. Zack even carried him into Midgar before being killed by Shinra police. Cloud is such an ingrate, liar and loser. Zack is clearly the only choice.

I don't like either more then the other, because they both pretty much contributed a lot to others. Zack sacrificed himself to save his best friend, who you should know is Cloud, and had dragged Cloud halfway across the planet just to keep him safe from Shin-ra. He is also responsible for saving Genisis from degrading into nothing and kept him from destroying the planet, and he ended Angeal's suffering. Cloud, on the other hand, saved the planet from Sephiroth destroying it, saved Aerith from Shin-ra a few times, destroyed most of Jenova(Which increased the rate at which the planet healed itself),saved Midgar from being blown up by Hojo, and, if I'm correct, saved Tifa from falling into the lifestream. My point is, they both achieved two things: 1. They both got the girl(Zack was re-united with Aerith after both of them died, and Cloud and Tifa started living together after the end of FFVII), and 2. They both saved the world(Zack saved it from Genisis, while Cloud saved it from Sephiroth).
Also, Zack and Cloud made a promise, saying that Cloud would live for the both of them. This promise was made right before Zack died. Zack also gave Cloud his Buster Sword, which he said represented his dreams and honor. Cloud didn't lie when he acted like Zack; He actually suffered from memory loss and only had Zack's memories.

By the end of Advent Children, I think Cloud did obtain his own unique personality. By the end I also think Cloud became stronger than Zack, but that's just me- Cloud's my FAVOURITE video game character heart . I love his hair, too.... lol

Both XD however, zack was better than cloud because back then, cloud was just an infantrymen.. he was kind of shy and scared i think and zack became a 1st class soldier and good at fighting accdg. to FF7 crisis core but in the advent children.. zack is gone crying cloud is taking revenge against sephiroth cloud is already good in combat.. XD Cloud is Zack's bestfriend awwwwwwww... it's a lachrymose ending in crisis core crying but i really like the gameplay including it's graphics, characters and everything XD

Ravenwolf blacklyra0 Ravenwolf stonythegreat Truthfully, neither one is better than the other. Saying Zack is better because he made Cloud what he was is like saying that every teacher in the world is better than the student who has far surpassed the teacher's ability in almost every way. I agree Zack is awesome. Cloud owes very much to Zack. However, since Cloud was part of the Genova experiments, he's had his strength boosted to near immortal heights. Skill and strength go to Cloud. Personality and courage go more to Zack. I do not like either better. I think they are pretty much one in the same. One just bolsters more of one particular important character building traits than the other. Good point! Only, wasn't Zack part of the exact same experiments? Only he was strong enough to not get all the coma-ish effects. Stronger? Was that mentioned? If you check the documents scattered in that room (VII and CC), it said that Zack was unaffected as a result of the SOLDIER modifications he'd had. Or does that mean something else? I don't remember seeing any documents to that effect, but neither can I remember where I got my information... The wiki's no help either. confused Well, mako is basically a condensation of the Lifestream, which itself is an amalgamation of the memories of people who have died. I was under the impression that Zack could withstand all the mako and everything because his mind was strong enough to not be overwhelmed by all of the other thoughts and stuff flooding his brain. It's the same reason Sephiroth could keep himself together inside the Lifestream; his mind was also strong enough. After all, the same thing happened to Cloud during VII when he got all comatose thanks to the mako poisoning. By that point, he already had so much mako and stuff in him that if it can give you any sort of resistance, I'd think it already would have. COME TO THINK OF IT, it sounds a lot like the same thing that happens in X-2, when Lenne starts to influence Yuna. FF X and X-2 is supposed to be a kind of prequel to VII, it in an interview one of the game developers pointed out that the kid Shinra in X-2 has a theory that he can make machines run on the lifeblood of the planet (mako). As to the topic: I think i prefer Cloud. I mean yes Zack took on Sephiroth and defeated Genesis and taught Cloud. But Cloud had to deal with more emotionally and physically. I mean first he tries to hide his face to everyone but his mom in Niebleheim because he is ashamed of not being in SOLDIER. Then Sephiroth kills everyone he grew up with, including his mom. He is then experimented on and watches helplessly as his friend and mentor dies in front of him and Zack just had to say tht he wanted Cloud to take his memories, and Cloud took that literally in the state he was in and he really became "Zack". Then after a whole lot more, he watches Aeris, (NOT AERITH), die. Cloud has to go through all of these things and he basically goes insane at one point, (the lifestream bit). So ya, I find Clouds story to be more tragic... Of course he didn't die like Zack did, but hes in a position after that to be reunited with Aeris eventually. btw I just joined and i have to say... This guild is awesome. blaugh

blacklyra0 Geez, this is such a conflicting question. I played both games several times through and can't honestly say which character I like better. Sometimes I really do admire Zack's desire for freedom and his self-sacrifice for defending Cloud. Also, he defeated Angeal ( although the monsters screwed him up pretty bad) and fared okay against Sephiroth for a while. And his death was really sad (even though I had expected it from the beginning). On the other hand, Cloud has endured more incurable/fatal diseases than anyone else. Its incredible that a regular soldier eventually surpasses both Zack and Sephiroth in blade skill, plus Cloud has Omnislash, that move is just plain awesome. He never wanted to claim his victory and walked away from a hero's life, which I thought was cool. I like both of them the same. Also Zack has Omnislash just as cloud. In CC if you get three of Cloud's(or was it three of Zack's) slots he uses Omnislash.

Depending on which game you play, the girl's name is spelled in game both as Aeris and as Aerith. I like them both, but I probably prefer Zack. I love him and Aeris as a couple, too, even thought Cloud and Tifa are nice. So, yeah, Zack wins by a bit.
Add Angeal, though, and oh, how to choose....

I personally believe you cannot harbour any true kind of love for one with out feeling deeply connected to the other.
Sure, Zack had the better personality HANDS DOWN, he was funny, lively and just plain great. It was impossible for you to play Crisis Core and not fall in love with him for one reason or another BUT he was a stereotype. He wanted to be a hero and he had everything to get there, the build, the height, the skills and the determination.
What i admire about Cloud is he really was the underdog. He's not terribly tall, he was scrawny to start with (Though he buffs up big time by AC...) had no self-confidence and was far too shy to push for anything he really wanted. What he did have however, was bravery, he stood up in the face of the hardships that were thrown at him and beat the odds despite everything. After being experimented on by Hojo he woke from his Coma despite the complete nueral shut down and death that had been predicted for him. Sure, we can attribute that in some degree to Zack and his interaction with Cloud throughout his coma.
Attacking Cloud for adopting Zack's identity is unfair, he was suffering from a form of psychosis that is induced when a person of VERY low self-esteem or with a very unstable personal identity witnesses the death of someone they believed very highly in. This would certainly be the case for Cloud, he always wanted to be like Zack, so seeing Zack die that way (and it being easily construed as his fault to some degree or another) would most certainly cause the psychosis. It caused him to believe he was the other person, he adopted Zack's personality in the place of his own, which would have been shaky after his ordeal.
It wasn't helped much by Zack's words however. If i had just woken from a coma to find my best friend dying i think i would interpret "For the both of us" as him asking me to be him. Though i know that's not really what Zack intended his words to mean.
After a massive speal you've no doubt tired of reading ^^; i will conclude by saying that i love Zack and Cloud equally, they're both amazing people. If i had to choose one though, i would choose Cloud... i'm a sucker for the underdog XD

Aya_Teien Ravenwolf Aya_Teien I'm sorry for that sweatdrop I remember at the end of the game when you see the starfield; I was so stupid that I left it there for like 30 minutes thinking something would happen xd Sorry? You didn't do anything! I do that kind of thing sometimes. 3nodding I think I did it there, too. I've also accidentally skipped movies because I don't think there's anything else, and there is. I always stay to the end of the credits, though, just in case. Yupp! I thought I was the only one who did that. Damn the people who inconviniently put videos after end credtis scream thats god of war for you lol and cloud is just too emo for me

When it comes to looks and personality, I prefer Zack. This is, however, just my personal preference -- everyone has a type or types.
If the question is: Who is the greater hero?, then... I'm not certain. A large portion of me screams Zack, but I'll admit that I'm biased. Cloud and Zack were more like two halves of a whole -- they would have made a great team and even greater friends, had things worked out.
As it stands, Zack may have wanted to beat Sephiroth, but in the end, he couldn't. It was Cloud that stepped up to the plate, even before treatments occurred. And although Zack died defending Cloud and their freedom, I think I read somewhere in a report that Cloud only survived because a member of ShinRa on location deemed him 'comatose' (which he was) and left him for dead thinking that he couldn't possibly recover (but don't quote me on it, because I've read so much speculation, anything's liable to leak in from that). But what makes a hero? Is it the heart, or performing a difficult task and coming out the better man?
So this is my vote: Zack all the way, even though reason tells me they're equal (if that).
