As I understand it, it's the government who refuses animal rights, not Canada as a whole. But that thing about the seals, ya, they need to find MUCH more humane ways to deal with the problem.

I'm Canadian. by the way I think they should just leave the poor seals alone. I found out the real reason for this year large hunt, it was because of the fisher man complaining about the fish stalks being depleted they put the blame on seals and kill them for it the problem with the lack of fish stalks is because of over fishing by humans not nature big fishing ships the size of deep sea freighters and mile wide nets but nooooo! instead of taking responsibility for there own actions humans blame it on seals! this seal hunt has made me so angry! a week after the hunt 1700 adult seals washed up dead on the shores of Newfoundland and many more unaccounted for the Canadian GOV blames this on nature" oh they got caught in the ice, got killed by 200 kph winds give me a break they (the adult seals all died of grief they lost the will to live after watching there babies getting beaten to death by humans. there was infact a large die off of seals as a result of the hunt the GOV has succeeded in hiding this information from the public-the seal hunt caused a lot more damage then there willing to admit and we and the environment will pay the price of that hunt for a long time to come.
I apologize for my little rant but this is something I feel very deeply about.

midnight delirium they are, yes, but unfortunately they are a minority party. they won't be elected into office anytime soon, but hopefully they will succeed in aiding the environmental views of the bigger parties. Normally, I vote for the person I'd actually want to see in office rather than the lesser of two evils, so I frequently find myself voting Green or Libertarian. Many people say that it's a waste to vote for anyone other than the two major parties, because nobody else will vote for them and you're wasting your time. Then again, many people say that it's a waste to bother picking up litter or practice conservation, because nobody else is and you're wasting your time.^_^' I see the two attitudes as being related- both of them aren't necessarily true, but if people believe in them, they're self-fulfilling prophecies. At any rate, even if those parties don't win the election, their ability to influence the campaigns of the "main" parties is directly related to the amount of support they have from the voters. There have only been two times when I've voted for one of the major parties just to keep the other guy out of office- I voted against Bush, Sr. when he ran against Clinton, and I voted against Bush, Jr. this last time when he ran against Kerry. The first time we were successful in keeping Bush out of office, the second time I'm fairly certain that we actually voted to keep Bush out of office, but he rigged the election and managed to take the title anyway. I'm very much concerned about what will happen when his current term is up- will he try to re-write the constitution to stay in power? Will he declare war on somebody and a state of martial law in order to stave off an election? Or is he just a stooge for a larger power, who will simply find another puppet to put up for election? The whole situation makes me nervous- having a man like that in power is not good for anyone (except Bush and his cabinet members' bank accounts- they've been making crazy money off the rocketing prices in oil, and the companies which are in charge of rebuilding in the areas we've been bombing are also linked to these men).

I think he's trying do something like that. I mean just look how he's trying to change Congress and the Supreme Court.

I apologize for my little rant but this is something I feel very deeply about. That makes me want to cry. They sure did hid that well I didn't know a thing about that, and well I'm Canadian myself. I only heard that New Foundland was over fished, by humans. I never heard any of that rubbish about seals, god stupidity seems to be rather contagious these days. New Foundland seems to be getting the worst of the blow. So many birds there end up getting killed because people keep dumping oil in the sea instead of paying to get it removed. Its been caught on video yet, when it reaches courts it taken as a lightly matter and the people are let off with a small fine!! Our justice system still has many glitches!

rikuHEART BOYCOTT CANADIAN SEAFOOD! biggrin Well not seafood in general, unless they mistreat all of their animals, which I doubt they do.

Devin_Kruljac_Truessence rikuHEART BOYCOTT CANADIAN SEAFOOD! biggrin Well not seafood in general, unless they mistreat all of their animals, which I doubt they do. It's not the animals that become the seafood they mistreat (well not that I know of anyway), it's the seals. And the approach the HSUS is taking to stop the Canadian Seal Hunt is to boycott Canadian seafood.
